damn, that really sucks. i was hoping for more solid Wii horror since Fatal Frame 4's fan translation's not yet done, and SH Shattered Memories could go either way yet. balls.
on a side note: Ju-On: The Curse (i think it was?), the japanese made-for-TV movie in like 2 parts was pretty scary. everything else ive seen with that in its title was not. #juonthegrudge

Great. It's "The Room: The Game"...so bad it's gonna have dumbasses starting "Ju-On Wii gatherings" every weekend with all the lights out and plenty of popcorn to replace the dust on their Wiis with fake ass butter paste as they throw that shit nilly willy all over the place.
Watch. This shit is gonna sell the fuck out and then get put on Ebay for ridiculous prices.
@Nutchromeo: Dude, The Grudge sucked... I think I'm thinking of the right movie anyways, wasn't it the one with the little kids that make that sound from their throat? If it is, then yea, that movie blew.
You have a proverbial hard-on for horror games in the manner of the elitist "hard core gamer" variety (based on your usual posts and that amateurishly written "scary games" article recently published), so "casual horror game", let alone one on the Wii, probably didn't sit right for you from the beginning.
The game isn't great, and the faults that you listed are there, but it's still fun to play, and it is scary - albeit the usual jump scares ala Resident Evil - so calling it out as nothing is ridiculous, on your part. Maybe you played it on 14" screen with tinny sound.
Sure, it's slightly repetitive, and you can tell the developers know this from the limited number of levels.
The controls are the usual Wii fare, but not nearly as bad as you say, AJ (!) You mention QTE fails, and I reckon it's because you failed, like many have, to recognise that up and down are different arrows from the forward and back arrow prompts.
You also fail to mention the nice implementation of the player having to keep their hands still during scary "stealth" parts; strange.
Your line "its control scheme and poorly-timed cheap thrill scares" is laughable, as that can quite arguably apply to any Resident Evil game.
There are also five levels, AJ, not four - guess you couldn't be bothered completing the game first!
It's not that I don't respect your opinion on it, I do, but seriously, just stop the horror game snobbery, it hurts the genre rather than helps it as you believe.
They need to get that pulse monitor wii finger add on to work so it can detect your tension and catch you off guard with a scare if your pulse gets too relaxed :D
Sad this game couldn't execute! Horror simulation seems like a great idea on the Wii... oh well.
@Benny: All they will detect is boredom. Besides, you can't use the nun-chuck AND the pulse sensor at the same time so pretty much every shooter is out.
@KillerBee: ahahaha yea.. they need a wiimote expansion hub... I want to be able to connect my nunchuk, classic controller, and this new pulse reading pos. With that I would have made khalim's flail from diablo II so I can flail my enemies away!
I dunno about you, but the first Grudge (American version) was creepy enough to have me constantly worrying about something under my covers pulling me into oblivion.
That scare was then WAY overused in the American sequel.
@TRT-X: THANK YOU! So I'm not the only one afraid to stick my arm where I can't see, even after the original (American) version was released so many years ago.
Seriously, I was so freaking paranoid of turning in bed and seeing Toshio's wide eyes looking at me. And that howl... *shivers*
@Taggart6: This is a crazy idea but,: I really liked that one.
I second that reco.
The three extremes 2 is pretty good too.. I haven't watched much asian horror in a few years, though...

Then I saw Ju-On...in my opinion, the make up was a bit more noticeable than in the American version. Could just be me though.

Thats honestly the only movie so bad I've walked out.

Really? I walked out of the 2 Matrix sequels. I felt like I was watching Dragon Ball Z.

Sure sounds spooktacular to me.

Yeah...
PS. Why is there a Left 4 Dead 2 ad with the words "In Stores NOW"? I feel like that's misleading.

I don't know. This game sounds horrifying. The stuff nightmares are made of.

Until it's ported to the wand and Natal with flashlight accessory, and sold cheaper than the Wii version on PSN and XBLA...
