This... this has been around for quite some time now Brian. At least in Canada. The Lego Batman/Pure bundle has been around for at least a month, and on the shelf of my Walmart next door. #deals
man why is Transformers 2 SO hated, if you take it for what it is, its a great movie about alien robots beating the living hell out of each other. you have two hot females and SOME funny parts(although my biggest negative about the movie was the amount of forced humor). i certainly dont understand the hyperbole i hear about "WORST MOVIE EVER" or "DESTRUCTION OF CINEMA". #xbox360
@kitenai: I enjoyed the movie for the most part, but the movie was "blow shit up" good (what Michael Bay is known for), not so much "at least the story makes sense" good. #xbox360
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): definitely not citizen kane but i mean its michael bay i dont think anybody was expecting that ;) to me it seems like people are hating it to follow some sort of trend. #xbox360
Wow, movie on a USB?
Thats kinda lame.
It'll be so wrapped up in DRM it'll be worthless.
At least DVD is fairly universal, and you can rip it to a USB stick if you want.
Anyway I'm getting Star Trek on Blu-Ray. cos it's so a film worth having on Blu-ray. (and it'll be easier to spot R2D2 in HD)
Transformers 2 I think I'll pass.
at least until I develop a high speed DVD firer, then I can shoot polycarbide discs at Labeouf n Fox at speeds that may embed in their skulls. the impeding brain damage may improve their acting skills. #xbox360
@flanker22: Star Trek's VFX is done by ILM. Same with Transformers.,
And they sneak R2 D2 into as an Easter Egg..
As of yet he's not been found in Star Trek.
(I'm a VFX Student not a dumbass ;)
And as 32GB drives are still astronomically priced I doubt they will be in HD quality. Unless they stick it on a smaller drive n rape the moveis with a harsh codec to make it fit, in which case you may as well get the DVD version. #xbox360
@deanbmmv: It's a 4GB stick. We've already seen it on trekweb.com. (I'm a geek.) Apparently only 1 GB is the actual movie. [trekweb.com] Star Trek Blu-Ray FTW. Though neat to see as a Trekkie. They should have also done a PS3 one with the Blu-Ray, a Blu-Ray controller and a card to download Star Trek DAC. Maybe throw in a premium Star Trek dynamic theme. #xbox360
What scene is that? I can hardly make out anything in Transformers films, even when they are standing still...
Also, after a quick google, and sorry if this spoils the fun...
"During the Drill Machine sequence as the Enterprise comes out of its barrel role amidst destruction of the other Federation ships above Vulcan, we cut to an interior Enterprise bridge over the shoulder of Kirk that is looking out through the front viewscreen. In space, R2-D2 is floating in the debris from about the top middle of the screen to the bottom right."
@Spidery_Yoda: Ah. ILM mentioend it was in the scene when they warp out into the rubble of ships. (good hiding place I guess)
But now you've spoiled the film for me :(
:P #xbox360
@Maverick128: "Unlimited viewing on registered devices" - Eww. Said it'd be wrapped up in DRM. And 1GB ties it up in the realm of SD.
It's like the Digital Copy stuff that comes with Blu-Ray. I guess its easier than ripping a Blu-Ray then shrinking it so you can fit it on a PMP, but still a bit icky in the DRM it's tied up with.
Actualyl with it using DivX it should be possible to watch on a PS3. I know You can register your PS3 for some DivX DRM thing. Think it came with FW2.30 or something. Just turn it on the menu like you do for WMV/WMA playback. #xbox360
@ThursdayNext: It was Skelzor versus Zombies.
But yes I played a bit. Though only a few rounds (and everyone carries on choosing the train wreck, I much prefer lost city)
But ended up on TF2 KOTH_Harvest instead (only admin around for our server)
How long does it last? I got the day off so I can play if your up for it. I know I've promised Mason some Co-Op now he has it. #xbox360
Transformers 2 is the worst film i've seen in at least 10 years. It actually made me angry while I was watching it. I hate it.
On the flip side I absolutely loved the new Star Trek film. They completely reinvented the franchise, while at the same time staying true to the old stuff (in a very clever way), and the film also payed countless homages to the old stuff. There are just too many references to count :).
I also <3 the new Enterprise. I was worried they'd completely butcher it. Thunderbirds film style. But I was suprised to see it stayed mostly faithful to the old ones.
And what is ironic is that both films had the same writers.
PS That is one awesome Star Trek box. I love the half built enterprise.
@linuxguy: They sell a few things like that in gamestation, or, sold, I dont think they caught on, seems like a bad idea to me, you get the downside of downloading (legal or not) - digital only, and also the downside of a physical copy - having to leave your man cave to get it.
Usb movies have no place in this world.
Expecially since theyre only usually less than 1gb, its just... no words can describe the amount of turd that surrounds them. #xbox360
@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): I consider myself to be a big Trek fan and I'd totally spend it on something else. That game is a steaming pile. #xbox360
It's worth noting that one of the USB ports on the X360 (the one on the back) is reserved specifically for Microsoft's Wi-Fi adapter. Just a heads up.
I agree, though... the PS3 Slim looks like a great piece of hardware, and with the price drop, I've actually thought of picking up a PS3 Slim, if only for its Blu-Ray capabilities. But it's going to come down to games and, as of right now, I'm having a hard time looking at the PS3's library and justifying a purchase.
@zimmi88: My boy and I had pretty much no reason to get a PS3 slim up until we heard about God of War 3... It's funny how it really does come down to game choices.
But what's funnier is the fact that it's taken until now (that's about 2 years) for the PS3 to actually become affordable here in Australia. And even then it's still $200 more expensive than what people in the US are paying.
@lineypi: No kidding. Sony could have owned this generation with a lower price. I think they would have been at at least 30-40 million units world-wide by now if they started at $400 and went down from there.
@zimmi88: Yawwn the PS3 has no games excuse is so 2007. It has a vast library of exclusives both full length and PSN titles that make the console worth buying at 399. At 299 it's almost stupid not to if you're into games and have the money.
@eastx: Huh... I could have sworn I read in some documentation or something the port only worked for the Wi-Fi adapter. Maybe I misunderstood the documentation. =/
@mikeevd: I dunno... I personally haven't of any games recently that I've been excited about that are either PS3 exclusive or are of a remarkably higher quality on the PS3, save for LittleBigPlanet, which has received lots of media exposure. That said, maybe I'm just not in tune with PS3 news.
I'm currently attending college and, while I'm not completely broke, I do need to budget and be relatively conservative about what I spend. So for me, investing in a PS3 would be a major purchase.
Perhaps you, or someone else that would like to add in, would like to recommend a few key titles to look into? I'm always up for trying new games and I can probably look into seeing if my school's library carries them.
@zimmi88: two uncharted games, two ratchet and clank games, killzone 2, mgs4, gow3 eventually. some good multiplatform games include sfiv, fight night round 4, soul calibur 4 and eternal sonata
It doesn't matter what consoles are out there, comparisons are going to happen. Usually over and over again.
End. Of. Story.
For me, it's all about the games. Hands down. And right now, for me, X360 has the edge.
Sure, there are some PS3 games that I'd like to try, but nothing that makes me think "zomgwtfbbq I HAVE to have that!"
I jumped into the X360 about two years ago, and I love it to death. And it simply comes down to the games. Orange Box? Hell yes. Fallout 3? Do want. Mercenaries 2? Pew pew!
If the PS3 had games I wanted to play, I'd totally get one, but for me, they just aren't there. It's still early-ish in the PS3 lifecycle and as developers get familiar with it, better games will arrive. When that time comes, I'll be handing over the credit card and unplugging the phone.
Reading article: 5 minutes Re-reading article because you're kind of slow: 10 minutes Reading the comments: 30 minutes Registering for your first Kotaku account with Mommy's email address: 10 minutes (she's on the phone right now) Banging out an unpunctuated, ill-conceived, grossly misspelled, barely literate post espousing whatever console your parents have deigned to purchase for you: 2 minutes On your daily afternoon nappy wappy: 1 hour Checking back to see if anyone responded to your trollbait, not understanding that non-starred commenters don't see your post until it's approved: 5 hours In Total: just under 7 hours
The biggest reason the 360 doesn't blow the PS3 out of the water for me is that most people would argue that Xbox Live is a huge reason to get it. Personally, I'm not big on online multiplayer and the games I do play online I play on PC. I'd much rather play without all the retarded 12 year olds ( I hate to harp on something so cliche, but it's cliche for a reason).
I love most of the exclusive games for both systems, but I think I like my PS3 just a tiny bit more.
Also I lost interest in Halo, like, forever ago. First one was cool, but after that I just don't need anymore Halo.
@fauxbravo: Xbox live has cool features that aren't really needed, they're just cool. PSN lets you play online with friends, so unless you're about the matchmaking services, there's no need for it.
Both Services can get laggy and both can disconnect you, so it's not like the level of online play when you actually get in a game is better on XBL. I've also played games on PSN that were smooth as butter. Most of them are, in fact.
This list ignored Backwards compatibility with PS1. ALL PS3s are BC with PS1 games.
This means:
Final Fantasy 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9
Chrono Cross
Chrono Trigger
Legend of Dragoon
Resident Evil 1, 2, 3
Parasite Eve
Silent Hill
Metal Gear Solid and VR Missions
Legacy of Kain (I think... wasn't that PS1?)
...
I'd venture to say the PS1 list is a LOT better than the Xbox 1 list, at least for single player games.
You also missed the fact PS3 is import friendly with PS3 games, and you can import PS1 games via download (but not disc) from other regions' stores.
2 more plusses for PS3
Oh... And PS3's controllers are rechargable NATIVELY. 360 and Wii still used normal batteries, last I checked.
@bobtheduck: Funny thing; the very first game i played on my PS3 was Castlevania:SotN, then i popped in Soul Reaver. two AAA games that you didn't list there! wtf! :)
@Anshrew: But it neglects that there IS BC with PS1 games... ALL PS3s do. That's not fair to leave out if you're going to talk about 360s being partially BC, and claim NO BC with PS3.
@Noodle-Works: Sorry. Actually, SotN was the first thing I bought on the PS store. You're right. I was mainly going for my top games (except legacy of kain... I don't like that game, and only brought it up because I have a friend who obsesses over it)
@bobtheduck: The PS3 slim doesn't have backwards compatibility. From what I gathered this article was comparing the PS3 slim to the 360 Elite, so it makes perfect sense for them to state that the PS3 slim isn't backwards compatible .... since it isn't.
If they were comparing everything that Sony has put out vs Microsoft then, maybe, your point would stand. But they aren't.
It's also pretty useless talking about the 1st gen PS3 since no one can buy it anymore anyway.
@bobtheduck: You know why people bitch about no PS2 BC? It's because they still release a shit-ton of games on it still. PSOne not so much (read none)
I still have mine for that reason....NEXT TO MY PS3
