Xbox Rewards Back Up, Extended

Looks like the Xbox Rewards program site is back up and running, following a heartfelt apology from the team at Microsoft and, we assume, some firms slaps upside the figurative head of the application servers.

The good news? Your wait to register was not in vain. Says the marketing gurus of the Xbox team:

To help ensure everyone who wants to participate has the opportunity, the Old Spice Experience Challenge will be extended by three days. Now you have until April 15th 2007 to increase your Gamerscore by 1,500. As a bonus, we are adding more rewards for this challenge, which means more gamers who successfully complete the challenge will get rewarded.

Now your chances of winning random crap by sitting on your ass playing games all day are that much better! It's a Valentine's Day miracle! Michael McWhertor

Xbox Rewards On Life Support

When the Xbox Rewards site went live yesterday, there was a mad rush to register. Gamers ready and willing to take the Old Spice Challenge brought the site to its knees. But Microsoft and crew are on the case. Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb wants to let you know:

As you may have noticed, the site is experiencing some issues right now. The marketing team is working on fixing them. In the mean time, if you are able to register...you then have to join the challenge. So really it's a two step process...assuming you can actually get into the site. Once I get an update, I'll report back.

We'll let you know when the Rewards program is once again ready for primetime. Michael McWhertor

Gamers looking to cash in on playing games on their Xbox 360 can now do so, as the Xbox Reward program has gone live in the United States. Complete the Rewards challenges in the specified period and you could nab yourself some prizes, depending on your level.

Level? Depending on your annual Gamerscore tier, you're eligible for different rewards, including level upgrades for future challenges. The current, Old Spice-sponsored challenge is:

The Old Spice Experience Challenge
Increase your gamerscore by 1,500 before April 12th
Rewards include: Old Spice Experience Level Upgrade, Contra Xbox LIVE Arcade games and Microsoft Points

Other prizes include copies of Fuzion Frenzy 2, t-shirts, and Old Spice branded Xbox Live gamer pictures. That Level 3 Old Spice Gamer Picture just screams hardcore. Michael McWhertor
