Wow, I just noticed Jeremy Soule (oblivion, morrowind) is doing the music for this game. He actually did the music for Secret of Evermore for Square back in '96. He was still in high school when he did that.

Why aren't there any games about the Japanese's side of the war. It'd be nice to get a fresh perspective from a WWII game.

I guess that whole allied with the Nazis thing is a little hard to get past.

@ctorrans: Uhm, maybe because the subject matter is hard verging on impossible for western audiences to understand or even connect with?

Clint Eastwood's Iwo Jima movie was very good, but it kind of highlights how ridiculous the situation was, and how almost alien the experience is from our perspective.

You'd be hard pressed to create any sort of scenario where you felt any emotional attachment to the characters or story.

@ctorrans: Technically, Japan considers WW2 to be the war in Europe, while Japan vs. the US is called the War of the Pacific.

Any mention of Japan during that era not only shames the Japanese but would cause tremendous backlash in other Asian countries like Korea and China.

Yes, it's another World War II game, but I can't see Square Enix jumping on the World War II bandwagon unless they thought they had something pretty damn special on their hands.

    Angst tanks!

@Kobun: I just saw the screen shots and it's incredibly beautiful, but again, it's just another World War II game when it's all said and done.

Unless it's merging the game with Disney characters! Goofy taking helm of a tank would be classic, or Donald giving orders as all the soldiers try figuring out what the heck he's saying.

@Outkastprince: Oh wow, if Square did a WWII era Disney game complete with all of the propaganda of the period, that would be amazing. You'd have a campaign where Mickey and Donald are fighting the Axis and another were Walt Disney is secretly aiding the Nazi party spouting vile anti-Semitic rhetoric. It could be an amazing period piece, but the racism prevalent from that era would kill Disney from ever green lighting such a project.
