@TRT-X: When they get one copy and typically share then only one can play at a time.
If you want to share WoW amongst your family, and they only play one at a time, then you only need one account.
You will never be able to play any full game that is out with one console and one copy of the game with three people. Maybe Halo 3, I could be wrong, but 2 players could do co-op on some games, but besides that your logic does not work here.
@taftsearlobe33: Also, not everyone was at level 70, doing endgame content, waiting for the expansion to hit. Some people will buy WotLK, but not until later. They can still play without it really.
Wow that's some serious coin! So what Gears 2 did pales in comparison to this...Goes to show how much the gaming demographic has.
I can just picture Activi-Blizzard building a castle out of money and laughing at EA's recent losses...The bastards! I'll email Nintendo and have them catapult gold bullions at 'em
Despite all the months I've spent playing WoW, I only maxed out one character which was in my most recent stretch of playing. It's amazing how different the game is when you know even a moderate amount of how the game works, versus how little you know when you start. Either way I had fun. Though I've always been uncomfortable paying the monthly fee for it, it was something I never really got out of my mind. I felt compelled to play it at least every few days at my most casual period because of the fee.
In my most recent stretch of playing WoW I got into raiding which was fun, but I guess it just doesn't last. After a few months of the raiding schedule, needing to farm for consumables(NOT fun as a defensively oriented class/spec) I got tired of it and the fun of the game was no longer there. I still liked seeing new content, but not nearly as much as when I started. The gameplay got old for me, and it was mostly just the people I had met and my raid group that kept me in it. Eventually I decided it wasn't worth paying for, and stopped renewing the subscription.
Since then, I've had tons more time for playing other games. I think WoW might be best suited for people who a) don't really game much outside of WoW or b) can be happy long term just playing one game. That didn't work for me. I think someday I might return to WoW just to see the endgame type content, see the instances, do the quests at least once. Maybe next year sometime after I complete my degree...?
For now, I enjoy playing other PC and PS3 games, and watching sports way too much to dedicate time to WoW, and raiding.
I got a character to level 44, before I just had to stop. It was almost never fun. Just pointless, endless, waiting followed by bits of grinding, and everlasting boredom.
I was in the original closed and open beta "back in the day" ('03 & '04). Once WoW was released to the masses I stayed on for a year, but like many people experience, I was just sick of the exorbitant amount of time I was spending in Azeroth compared to RL. Since breaking away I haven't looked back. I think the game's great, but I just can't dedicate the time anymore.
Im no longer in a point of my life where I can commit such time into a videogame/"second life" without harming my first life. No good, Blizzard. Don't worry, you will see my €uros again when Starcraft II and Diablo III come out, sometime before the end of the next millenium.
PS: I demand a new Lost Vikings & Rock'n'Roll Racing!
I played for a couple months, but I'd played several other MMOs so it didn't hold much appeal to me. It felt like Lineage 2 with way more walking and eye-clawing graphics IMO.
Gravity sent me a notice that Ragnarok has a free to play server now with slightly altered rules, and that almost pulled me back in, but then I remembered how awful they were at running servers a few years ago (both uptime and policing...)
I'm a gamer, and I love video games... but there is NO game that's good enough to warrant me paying every month to allow me the privilege to continue playing it (that goes for XBox Live too, I don't own an XBox 360 but I don't plan on owning one ever. And yes, I know you don't HAVE TO subscribe to XBox Live).
@Mokona: discovering an mmo will change your tune. When you think about it, $15 per month is cheaper than a trip to the movie theatre which gives you about 2-3hrs of entertainment. For that same $15 you get 24hr access to a game for 30 days which will likely entertain you for far more than 2-3hrs. If the game is consistently enjoyable then a $15 monthly fee becomes very reasonable.
umm... $15 for a trip to movie theater? where do you live? In arizona its $9, and this is with an increase in price not too long ago.
btw, $15/month + wow is a rip off. Id rather pay $15/month and ANY other mmo. Everyone is the same in wow... I have no intensive to start up my account again.
@madreag: Everyone is the same? How on earth could you come to a conclusion like that? Do you mean their appearance? The variety (or lack thereof) of skins/meshes? If you in fact mean their personalities I'm afraid I don't understand. The people who yell or /general of course come to sound the same. They're driven by the same voracious desire for attention of any kind. But you run into those people nattering at you in a subway or at the water cooler or anywhere else. How exactly do you mean "everyone is the same in wow?" I am curious.
Also, re: movie theater prices, he's not pulling your leg. He probably lives near a significant urban center. Fifteen dollars is about what I used to pay (or at least, what they'd ask me to pay) to see a movie in D.C.

So only 1/3 of them lined up for the expansion?

From my understanding, you are required to buy a hardcopy of WoW for each person who wants to play it...

In a good way! Take some time, get some really nice lotion! Light some candles. Ooo, that's always romantic.
And yes, it is all the sitting I do. v.v
