Will this replace or compete with WoW? If its good I would just see it canabalizing players from WoW since, well, since WoW owns 95% of all MMO players.

Here's a tip tho: If you are going to include PVP, make sure its balanced from the get go, don't try to fix it later since Blizz really kind of stinks at balancing things after the fact.

@Southrncomfortjm: Likely it'll be different enough that they'll not so much cannibalize their WoW crowd so much as get to start double-dipping them... and any people it does cannibalize are people who are likely better innoculated against having some competitor rip them away. I'd be surprised if they went sci-fi (both because if they were to do so, it'd be StarCraft, and because coming out with a sci fi MMO up against The Old Republic would be dicey), but other genres abound.

As for balancing PvP... Blizzard's style of balance will always depend on corrective patches and nerfs and buffs and constantly swirling change. Without that ebb and flow it'd probably start feeling stale quickly.

I'm glad that they're going with a new IP. I think that the game industry needs to break away from franchise sequel business models. I'm very tired of the same titles with a new roman numeral after them, year after year.

@Bluetribal: I seem to recall the code name "Hydra" being thrown around at some point about this "other project", and that yeah, it was being pointed out as a new IP.

Of course, Blizzard's also more likely than many developers to nurse a project along for a while and then cancel it, so every indication that it's not canceled yet is a bit of news.

@qin: ? A qualitative judgement is an opinion of itself. I mean, "good" and "bad" have commonly accepted meanings applied to them in general, but with games, someone saying "WoW sucks" is a given opinion.
