Work and Play: A Peek Inside the Lives of Gaming's Greatest Readers

When Brian first told me what I was going to be doing, I'll admit I was a little overwhelmed at the thought of going through potentially hundreds of photos, and making them presentable for all the world to see. But now I understand why Crecente called the first gallery his "labour of love". It was really exciting getting hear from you guys and receiving stories about your gaming setups from all over the world. I'm a little sad I couldn't include all the great stories you guys provided me with, but I think many of these pictures speak for themselves.

I hope you all enjoy looking through these galleries as much as I enjoyed putting them together!
(Just a head's up: I have added ALL of your photos - at least all the people who sent me their country - but you may not see them on the main gallery page, as it will only display the first fifty. But don't worry! Click through the gallery, and you'll find your photo!)

To check out the desks and gaming setups of big names in gaming like David Jaffe, Sid Meier, and Penny Arcade's "Gabe" and "Tycho", visit the original gallery: Work and Play: A Peek Inside the Lives of Gaming's Greatest (with updates always being added, including new photos this week from Tommy Tallarico and Ted Brown, Lead Level Designer for Buzz Monkey Software.).

Open Call for Your Photos

You asked for it, so you're going to get it. After we ran our feature on the desks and game rooms of some of the industry's greats, from developers to insiders, there was an overwhelming call to show off your own home gaming setups.

So I've decided to give Intern Tori the hellish wonderful task of sorting out all of your pictures and turning them into something beautiful. If you're interested, shoot just a single image of your gaming setup to toriAtKotaku DOTCOM. Make sure to include in the body of your email the name you want to use for the image description and what country you live in. That's it. And please, one photo only.

We'd like to get this wrapped up for next week, so if you're doing this try to get it to us soon, very soon.

Work and Play: A Peek Inside the Lives of Gaming's Greatest

I've had a pet project I've been working on for years, three of them if my memory is right. It started as a simple idea: You can judge a lot from a person's desk. I bet you could judge just as much from their home entertainment system. So I decided it would be fun to try and track down some pictures from the work desks and home gaming set-ups of the people who work in and cover the video game industry. Simple right? Not so much.

Turns out that many of the people are either too busy or too private to want to participate in such a project. To make matters worse, there's always fear that something sitting on someone's desk, that ends up in a photo, could actually be news worthy. Like a secret project or the next big thing. But I didn't give up and about once a year I'd harass a bunch of game developers for photos. Finally, this year, the harassment paid off.

What started as a trickle of photos turned quickly into the collection of galleries you'll find on the jump: More than 40 different photo galleries from 17 studios, seven publications, two industry movers and shakers and a couple of fun surprises.

You'll get to see the desk of such greats as Sid Meier, Peter Molyneux and Tetsuya Mizuguchi along with plenty of others. Remember you can comment both on the next page and on each individual photo if you click on them.

If I find there is interest, I will try to periodically update this gallery of galleries with more developers, journalists and industry movers and shakers. Have fun.
