While I find it hilarious, I really hope there weren't any people who put in a lot of legitimate work designing a monster to submit for the contest, only to be completely ignored by the anonymous of Japan.

@spannu: I don't see this as a bad thing at all. Remember how Michael Bay suddenly became too dignified to allow a certain contest winning phrase into his precious Transformers? This is to be admired -- not bashed, no pun intended.

In a time and place where the most voted submission will be "under consideration" as an official selection, it's nice to see that someone is willing to choose something that the internet has decided as its champion, regardless of how zany or ridiculous it is.

I was wondering how they would incorporate that one. Would they just take the design of the cat or would they take that actual screen cap text and all and somehow make that work? Regardless of the outcome, this would go down as an interesting outcome.

:( Poor red squiggle lost. That would have been fun to see.

@ph15h: minimum wage really is minimal: Off the back of this ASCII monster I am stunned that they will now allow these same people to come up with a name and the games logo.

Some people learn from their mistakes. Perhaps Jaleco should think about employing them? :P

That said I do respect Jaleco's make bed - lie in it philosophy. Very noble.

I too am very sad that Mr Messy did not make the cut.

@ThursdayNext: In these harsh economic times companies will go very far to save money. Why hire expensive "experts" if you can have Joe Blow come up with characters, logos and names?

Next you'll see EA run a contest that lets you submit your awesome idea for a game. The voting will of course be fixed so the best idea will actually win, and nobody will get paid for their ideas. But, your name will flash by in 0.5 seconds in the credits.
