It'll be out in Europe on October 16, and priced at £20 (USD$33). Even allowing for a wonky exchange rate, that's a great price.

No word on an American release, but then, it's a PS3 disc. If it's not released in the US, feel free to import to your heart's content.

<![CDATA[Sony Scraps WipeOut HD Loading Ad]]> The people have spoken. Spoken angrily. And Sony have listened, removing the worst of the in-game advertising from WipeOut HD only 24 hours after it was first officially announced.

"The ad has been removed from WipEout HD", a Sony rep told Eurogamer, "and we are investigating the situation to ensure that any in-game advertising does not affect gameplay".

Note this doesn't mean all advertising in the game has been removed; only the ad that was causing the annoying, increased load times.

<![CDATA[WipEout Stylists The Designers Republic Shuts Down]]> The UK design studio largely responsible for the identifiable visual style of Psygnosis' WipEout series, The Designers Republic has shut its doors after more than two decades in business. Why? Money problems.

The Designers Republic founder Ian Anderson tells the Creative Review that the studio, which handled visual work on titles like WipEout and WipEout XL, laid off all staff earlier this week. A seemingly perfect storm of cash-related issues ended the company, but Anderson says it will rise again in another form.

The design firm also worked on a handful of other video game related projects, including the PC game Hardwar and the original Grand Theft Auto. But it was probably the WipEout series with which The Designers Republic was most closely tied as the earlier games' typography, team design and icons were largely the result of their work.

<![CDATA[Sony To Bring In-House Racing Studios Together]]> Sony have two in-house racing developers. Evolution Studios, who do MotorStorm, and SCEE Liverpool, who do WipeOut. Seems a bit silly having two teams doing the one genre, doesn't it? Does to Sony.

In an interview with GI.biz, Sony's Michael Denny says that, while the two studios currently share the same management, the two will eventually be smooshed together to share the same building. Which, if even if they didn't officially merge the pair as something like SCEE Vroom Vroom, would result in enough movement of staff between the two that our last, thread-bare link to Psygnosis (as SCEE Liverpool were known as in a former life) would be gone forever.

<![CDATA[WipeOut HD Hopefully Coming In "Q2"]]> You can keep your Pixeljunks and your skydivings and your ridiculously-spelled fl0wing. There's only one PSN game I'm interested in. And that's WipeOut HD (OK, that and Everyday Shooter). While previous press material had the game pegged for a Q4 release (nnnoooooooo!), SCEE reps have today said they're actually aiming for a Q2 release (yyyyaaayyyyy!).

<![CDATA[Don't Hate WipEout HD Because It's Beautiful]]>

It's been a while since we've had our hands on WipEout HD, but if we ever had a bad thought about it, I wish we could take them all back. It's looking better and better every time the gang in Liverpool dishes out new media. A bit of a WipEout XL junkie back in the day, I simply cannot wait until this shows up on the PlayStation Store for a proper online race. The HD version at GameTrailers certainly does the whole more justice than the one above.

<![CDATA[WipeOut HD Features Custom Soundtracks]]> I know, it's not the first PS3 game to feature custom soundtracks, but this isn't some cheap bowling game we're talking about here. This is WipeOut. A game for whom music played a big, big part in its success back on the PS1. SCEE blog Three Speech sends word that while the game's bundled soundtrack includes appropriate artists such as Kraftwerk, you'll also be able to create custom playlists from any songs you've got stored on your PS3's HDD.

<![CDATA[New WipEout HD Screens]]> A nice little gallery of screens here from WipEout HD which will be gracing the PlayStation Store soon. The game will be presented in full 1080p, running at 60fps and will be made up of reworked tracks from previous WipEout titles. Looks pretty good—although I wonder about the giant panda head with the "X" eyes. It just seems wrong somehow. Make the jump to check out the list of tracks!

Vineta K - On the southern shores of Makana Island, the circuit at Vineta K snakes in and out of the ocean and across the beaches. The highlights of this 4.4 km track include spectacular underwater tunnels and cutting-edge architecture along the waterfront.

Chenghou Project -The feature-packed circuit at Chenghou Project weaves its way around the offices and corporate buildings of Makana Island's business district. The 4.8 km track contains a tricky inverse-cambered spiral and culminates in a long jump into the tunnelled entry of the final chicane.

Sebenco Climb - The 4.8 km Sebenco Climb track is cut into the hillsides of Makana's Sebenco mountain range. It features a steep traverse up the snowy mountainside, followed by a breathtaking plunge into an icy tunnel carved through the very heart of the mountain. The final section takes pilots through a challengingly tight chicane before they swing back onto the grid.

Sol 2 - The 4.4 km Sol 2 circuit hangs suspended in the clouds high above Makana Island. Consisting of a series of fast-flowing, occasionally open-sided corners linked by sweeping straights, the combination of harsh sunlight and blind summits ensure that Sol 2 is a test of nerve for every speed class.

Ubermall - In the heart of Makana Island's commercial zone is Ubermall, a 4.6 km circuit built into a vast shopping centre. The latter half of the track contains a brief split which rejoins into a narrow hill, followed by an outdoor park section that leads swiftly to the finish.

Anulpha Pass - The 5 km Anulpha Pass track is located in a custom-built entertainment arena on the east side of Makana Island. Although the track looks deceptively simple from above, the undulations of the track surface and narrow skill-cut are enough to keep any racer on their toes.

Moa Therma - The immense man-made complex of Moa Therma is located just off the northern coast of Sicily, with around a third of the track surface built using mag-strip technology. The centrepiece of this 5.3 km circuit is the gigantic horizontal loop which sits just above sea level.

Metropia - The 4.7 km Metropia circuit weaves its way between the skyscrapers and traffic control towers that dominate the Kyoto skyline. Glass-bottomed track surfaces and a stunning vertical mag-strip drop into the depths of the city are just two of the highlights of this popular track.

<![CDATA[Wipeout Pulse Boosts To PSPs]]> The follow-up to PSP racer Wipeout Pure arrives in North America today, says the official PlayStation blog. Wipeout Pulse—aka wipEout PULSE, if you're a capitalization fetishist—looks to not just toss out a new collection of tracks and pretty lights, it brings proper infrastructure online racing to the PSP, with the promise of downloadable content in the future. Europeans are already enjoying Wipeout Pulse DLC, meaning it can't be too far off.

I just checked the United States version of the PC PlayStation Store and didn't see Pulse turn up. While you wait, make sure to get caught up on the newest Wipeout courtesy of Liverpudlian producer Paul Tweedle's blog.

<![CDATA[WipEout Gonna Wipe Out PlayStation Network?]]>

Whaddaya think? Sony working on WipEout for the PS3? Ha! That would be like Nintendo working on Mario Kart for the Wii. When asked if a PS3 version would be PSN only, Sony's WipEout Game Director Tony Buckley (pictured) said:

I think WipEout in HD would be stonking! And I think, you know, the arcade nature of WipEout, makes it so pick up and playable, so I think it would be brilliant... It's obvious we're doing a WipEout for the PS3 but... well, there will be an announcement in August.

Good on Buckley for being so upfront instead of the standard we-cannot-comment-on-that bull. We couldn't agree more. WipEout in HD would be stonking — on the PSN, even more so.

<![CDATA[Wipeout Pulse Revealed For PSP]]> One of the PSP's best original titles, Wipeout Pure, is getting a proper sequel from Sony Liverpool. Successor Wipeout Pulse not just a collection of new tracks—although there are 24 promised—but a one-up in nearly every way.

Online racing, photo mode, even a new track element called the "Mag-Strip" let's racers perform seemingly impossible feats like loops and pure vertical drops by locking onto the track. Wait, didn't F-Zero GX do this? Oh, we won't nitpick!

The game doesn't hit PSPs until September, so you'll have to comfort yourself with the newly released screens over at Eurogamer.

<![CDATA[PS3 Wipeout In The Works]]>

The PlayStation 3 is starting to look better and better in my eyes as of late, and no single bit of good news has helped to lift my hopes more than the news that Sony has confirmed that there is indeed a Wipeout game in the works for the next-gen powerhouse.

In an interview with Develop magazine, Sony Liverpool director Clemens Wangerin finally let the cat out the bag—Wipeout PS3 is definitely in development. He said the game would use the Sixaxis controller and would "maybe" feature online and multiplayer content. A Sony spokesperson confirmed the title, and said, "We have nothing to add, but we will be making an announcement with more details in the near future."

Wipeout has long been one of my favorite racing series, and the only thing that could dampen my excitement for a next-gen entry is if that 'maybe' next to the online multiplayer bit slid over to the 'no' column. Tell you what Sony, you give me online multiplayer Wipeout, and I'll start spelling PLAYSTATION 3 in all caps like you want me to, plus I'll stop placing N64 box art in your posts. Deal?

<![CDATA[Car-Sized PSP Peripheral]]> wire0506.jpg

This is the coolest peripheral I've ever seen for a portable. Sure the enormous chair, steel frame, giant desk, twin speakers and movie-screen-sized display may make your Playstation Portable a bit harder to carry around, but man does it make Wipeout Pure a blast to play.
