As one commenter noted, "...I think I got some sort of contact high from reading this." It's an interesting chat about aesthetics, level design, what McFarland would do if turned loose on Half-Life, and why DLC can give more to the industry than many people think:
'I'd like to think that [my track] is as far from the established aesthetic of WipeOut as is possible, and that it evokes the spirit of my own work,' says Neil.

'For the gamer, I hope it's a track that's fun to play, surprising, and at times distracting to fly through. I want people to feel that they have entered into a lysergic fun fair and that [my art] has added a whole new atmosphere to this terrific game.

You can find videos of the other 3 tracks included in the Omega Pack over at YouTube; the interview is definitely worth a read through, if for its 'My, that was trippy' value alone.

<![CDATA[Wipeout Pulse Revealed For PSP]]> One of the PSP's best original titles, Wipeout Pure, is getting a proper sequel from Sony Liverpool. Successor Wipeout Pulse not just a collection of new tracks—although there are 24 promised—but a one-up in nearly every way.

Online racing, photo mode, even a new track element called the "Mag-Strip" let's racers perform seemingly impossible feats like loops and pure vertical drops by locking onto the track. Wait, didn't F-Zero GX do this? Oh, we won't nitpick!

The game doesn't hit PSPs until September, so you'll have to comfort yourself with the newly released screens over at Eurogamer.

<![CDATA[New Pack Available For Wipeout Pure]]> pureish.jpg

Delta Pack One just went live for those of you still playing Wipeout Pure on your Playstation Portable. The free pack includes two new racetracks. Iridia and Anulpha Pass are neon-laced tracks in the "Delta League." You also get the official team skins from Assegai and Harimau.

This latest packs means there are now seven you can download to your game. I love this level of support.

<![CDATA[Games and Movies on One UMD, Oh My!]]>

It's been widely reported that Sony is putting UMD movies and games on the same discs for the PSP. The first game to get the mash-up is Wipeout Pure. Pure will be paired with the 2005 popcorn bomb Stealth. The disc features the first three levels of Wipeout, a special Stealth level, the Stealth film and will retail for $39.95.

The problems here are numerous. Sony is delivering a cramped game coupled with a horrible movie at a price that will alienate the consumer. Unless Sony wants UMD sales to be an afterthought they need to drop the price on the movies (and make movie/game packages that are remotely attractive), otherwise consumers the consumers will speak at the cash register. Wanna guess what they're gonna say? Probably the same thing they told Laser Disc.

<![CDATA[Coke Releases Downloadable Wipeout Pure Vehicles]]> cokewipeout.jpg

In-game advertising is rearing its ugly head again, but at least this time it comes with some sort of payout for gamers. Starting Aug. 11, Playstation Portable owners will be able to download Coke-themed add-ons for their copy of Wipeout Pure. The racer downloads will include new vehicles and courses with a Coke twist.
