WipEout HD Leaves The Garage A Bit Buggy

The release of WipEout HD was a long time a-comin' and, unfortunately, its launch on the PlayStation Store is not without its problems. PlayStation 3 owners are reporting that their copies of the SCEE developed hoverracer are locking up, with users pointing to larger friend lists as a potential source of the problem. We contacted Sony PR to find out more. More »

Play WipeOut HD, Your Life/Brain Is In Your Own Hands

Don't think it was ever confirmed confirmed, but it was strongly suggested that WipeOut HD's lengthy delay was the result of the game failing epilepsy tests. That suggestion looks pretty likely today, with the news that the game's going to ship with the mother of all epilepsy warnings at the front. Every time you play the game, you'll have to scroll through a large warning message that goes above and beyond what you'd normally expect, with the message dealing mostly with the games "flashing or flickering lights or geometric shapes and patterns". If you're sensitive to that sort of stuff, be warned. More »

WipeOut HD Not Only Priced, But Dated As Well

WipeOut HD is a "coming sometime in the future" game no more. Sony have announced when the game will be out, and friends, it will be out soon. September 25, to be precise, and when out on September 25 will set you back $20. For that $20 you're getting, amongst other things, 8 tracks, splitscreen racing (offline only) for two players, or if you're up for a bigger challenge, 8-player online multiplayer. More »

    WipeOut HD Priced (For Britain)

WipeOut HD should be coming out later this year. It's meant to, anyways, but with this game, you can never be too sure. Anyway, when it does (hopefully) come out later this year, we now know how much it'll cost: £11.99. Which works out to be USD$21, AUD$26, ¥2,260 and, for our South African readers, 172 Rand. You'll need to adjust for local store variations when it hits, though, so expect the US price to be a little lower and the Australian to maybe be a little higher. More »

    Wipeout HD One-Year Anniversary Impressions

It's been a year since we first went hands on with Wipeout HD, the (eventual) PlayStation Network release that acts as a sort of remastered greatest hits comp from the series' past decade. The SCEE developed racer may have looked pretty sharp the last time we saw it, but it looks light years beyond that now. More »

    Sexy New WipEout HD Screens

We enjoyed the hell out of a pre-release Wipeout HD at last year's Games Convention. But the PlayStation Network release is looking noticeably more impressive in its showing this year, what with its fancy pants new menus and graphical upgrades. We sat down with the PlayStation 3 game — which is hopefully coming soon — today to get an update on how its looking (sharp!) and how it plays (the same!), but we'll bore you with our hands-on impressions of Wipeout HD after we do more than just lose three races and clumsily navigate German language menus. How does tomorrow work for you? Excellent! Enjoy the new screens. More »

WipEout HD Delayed So They Can Add Loads Of New Stuff

As you can tell by the fact you still can’t buy it, WipEout HD has been delayed. Rumours suggest the reason for the hold-up could be epilepsy tests, it could be glitchy online play, it could be anything and everything in between. But what do Sony have to say about the whole thing? They’ve got a very sensible answer: More »

Is WipEout HD Failing An Epilepsy Test?

Considering the version we played at TGS last September looked pretty slick, the continued absence of WipEout HD from the PSN is a puzzling one. SCEE's David Reeves said last week the delay is down to a "really, really tricky technical problem", but failed to go into specifics. What kind of problems can cause such a long delay? Here's a possibility: the game's failing important, necessary epilepsy tests. That notion was raised in the comments of our post, and have now been raised by CVG as well, though it's important to note that this is far from confirmed, and Sony have yet to comment on the claims. As far-fetched as they sound (it could just as easily be something like, oh, online MP issues).

WipEout HD Has "A Specific Technical Problem"

One of the best PS3 games we've laid our hands on over the past 12 months has been the PSN version of classic PlayStation racer WipEout. It was playable all the way back at TGS, and has been playable at various events since, and yet at E3 this year, it was nowhere. No mention of it, no mention of a release date. So what gives? Looks as if while most of the game simply sings, some of it doesn't, with the game plagued by a "really, really tricky technical problem" that nobody at Sony has been able to fix. As a result, they're hoping the game will be out by Christmas, but just can't guarantee it. Bummer. More »

The PlayStation Network's Next Big Games

The release of SOCOM Confrontation via the PlayStation Network this fall may have the mass appeal to be a digitally distributed "killer app" for the PlayStation fan base, but Sony has plenty of unique offerings over the next few months, some of which we are already intimately familiar with. Echochrome and Wipeout HD haven't been lacking in exposure, but MTV's Stephen Totilo goes hands-on with two more PSN originals, Elefunk and PixelJunk Monsters Encore to get a handle on what's next for the Store. WipeOut HD Hopefully Coming In "Q2"

You can keep your Pixeljunks and your skydivings and your ridiculously-spelled fl0wing. There's only one PSN game I'm interested in. And that's WipeOut HD (OK, that and Everyday Shooter). While previous press material had the game pegged for a Q4 release (nnnoooooooo!), SCEE reps have today said they're actually aiming for a Q2 release (yyyyaaayyyyy!). More »

    WipeOut HD Features Custom Soundtracks

I know, it's not the first PS3 game to feature custom soundtracks, but this isn't some cheap bowling game we're talking about here. This is WipeOut. A game for whom music played a big, big part in its success back on the PS1. SCEE blog Three Speech sends word that while the game's bundled soundtrack includes appropriate artists such as Kraftwerk, you'll also be able to create custom playlists from any songs you've got stored on your PS3's HDD. New WipEout HD Screens

A nice little gallery of screens here from WipEout HD which will be gracing the PlayStation Store soon. The game will be presented in full 1080p, running at 60fps and will be made up of reworked tracks from previous WipEout titles. Looks pretty good—although I wonder about the giant panda head with the "X" eyes. It just seems wrong somehow. Make the jump to check out the list of tracks! More »

    WipEout HD Hands-On Impressions

Sony had a half-dozen or so demo stations featuring the PlayStation Network racer WipEout HD for the PLAYSTATION 3 at Games Convention, comfortably placed in front of golden toilet seats. The 1080p, sixty frames per second remake features some of the best moments from past WipeOuts, layering a lifetime of features on top of well known mechanics, aesthetics and locations. More »

WipeOut HD Demo Ready For Leipzig Games Convention

A new listing added to the German equivalent of the ESRB, the USK, reveals that a demo for Sony Liverpool's PlayStation Network release of WipeOut HD will be available at the Leipzig Games Convention. Formally announced at E3 2007, with a release date before the end of the year, WipeOut HD promises hi-def visuals and familiar WipeOut tracks for the PLAYSTATION 3. Let's hope that Sony is planning to release the full game not long after its showing at Games Convention (and that my plane back to the States is on-time and lands safely). More »

Wipeout HD By End Of 2007

1UP is reporting that Wipeout Pulse game director Tony Buckley has revealed that Wipeout HD, a PlayStation Network title, should make an appearance on the PLAYSTATION 3 before calendar year 2008. That's just about the worst kept secret on the Sony front, as Buckley was dropping none-too-subtle hints about how "stonking" a PS3-bound Wipeout in high definition would be just days ago to Kikizo.
