Aah...I remember the good old school yard days where the incredible list of actual secrets embedded into games such as Super Mario World ect. actually made games a mystifying experience. Sadly now, thats all gone thanks to "next-gen" game hand holding and the proliferation of this thing called the internet...all real secrets, and word of the street talk...are sadly gone.
Fitting that the Sheng Long prank is the picture used. I imagine that's one of the biggest if not most famous pranks in videogame-dom. That and Smash Bros having Sonic and Tails...
I miss things like these. Nowadays it's not that prevalent seeing as we have the 'net to catch up on things and to debunk 'em. Not that I mind it. I wouldn't want to be the fool to try and replay any Final Fantasy game just so you can bring someone back to life or see a cinematic of it. *cough* Aerith *cough*...
@Pyrefly: I've hears that if you set all your Pokemon free, then save the game and turn the Gameboy off right before it finishes saving, they all reappear on level 100!
@Hamsfork: I meant heard, not hears. I don't know how I didn't see that.
@NeVeRMoRe666: Unfortunately I actually thought that it was worth a try when I was a small and gullible child. Fortunately, I have a smaller and more gullible brother.
Good that Kotaku decides to use the EGM Sheng Long prank as the post for this. Also, haven't looked at it yet, but I'm guessing "Use Strength on the truck" is on there?
The biggest game lie I remember was for bringing one of the characters back to life as a playable character in FF6. It was supposedly done by flying one of the airships in circles around a particular castle a dozen times in one direction, and then a dozen in the other direction. The shit some people make up, man.
@aw3str1k3r: There's no Pikablue. Nothing about having a 150 Pokemon and then capturing a Tauros on your first try and whatever the rest of the code was
"If you scroll through the game's "Config" menu enough times, a secret option appears that lets you activate voice acting for the entire game." (Final Fantasy VII)
