The Wii is a gimmick. Always was, always will be- and it made Nintendo a lot of money. But ONLY Nintendo has made money, while everyone else who has developed for the Wii have been burned.
That means they'll drop it like its hot, focus on expanding core IP and building up popular franchise titles. EA is doing the same thing, as is Activision.
Oh, and Avatar is going to fail in theaters, as will the game. I'm calling it right now.
12:20 PM
I'd be shocked if that flick doesn't succeed by producers' standards. Expect the game to outperform expectations for the same reasons.
12:39 PM
I'm not too sure. I've seen Avatar trailers aired in public met with
"Space hippies"
And
"WTF is this about?"Doesn't help that the film is a giant black hole of investor money. If it did okay for regular film standards it would be a collosal failure with its budget.

Should have stuck with Imagine Prizon Cell Dezign: Paris Hilton Edition.
11:40 AM
Garbage like Imagine Babiez With Princezz Petz aren't selling while games that actually took effort to create, like ACII, are.
Maybe Ubisoft will take the hint and stop shoveling their particular brand of shit all over the Wii.

Getting: Zelda TP, NSMB, SSBB, Muscle March and Muramasa..
Is there another must-have wii-title i should consider getting?
(mind you, no other Mario games, no Madworld and no play/fit stuff)
06:59 AM
If you haven't played on Game Cube already, Metroid Prime Trilogy and Pikmin highly recommended.
07:03 AM
I may pick up the New Play Control! Pikmin soon also, along with the Conduit. Been meaning to.
You could also get Wii Points and download games like FFIV: After Years, LostWinds 1&2, and....others..... I have too many downloaded games to remember them this early. XD

How heavy is LKS on the strategy element, and is there a comparable game to it, i'm a bit hazy on the details (other than strategy, makers of Harvest Moon) and i'm not a fun of strategy either.
Having said that, if it's really an original game, i'll give it a go
07:08 AM
If you're a fan of the original Dead Space, I can also recommend Extraction.
And if you get a chance, also download Bit.Trip BEAT from the Wii Shop Channel. It's only 600 points (6 euro's) and very addictive.

If you're connecting it online there's a fair number of downloadable games that are great too. One cool one I'd recommend, if you're in the U.S. and never got to play Sin and Punishment on the N64 (as it never came out over here), it's on the Virtual Console and is a lot of fun if you like that kinda shooter. Very challenging though.
Curious as to why the no other Mario's otherwise I'd recommend Super Paper Mario, Mario Kart and Mario Galaxy, but alas.

I'm weird like that, i despise shooters, yet i love them if they offer split-screen co-op campaign. On rails shooters, (especially co-op) just makes it feel all arcady again.. which i love. So no on the Metroid, probably yes on the RE
07:27 AM
Another in the 2D realm is, Wario Land Shake It. It has a nice hand drawn cartoon kinda look to it.
Also forgot to mention before, Punch-Out!!!

That is why it fails to me, I initially thought it'd be a well executed wii-boxing.
It was not.

Little Kings Story, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zack and Wiki and Tiger Woods 10 (I know it seems strange but with the motion plus it is without doubt the best golf game yet and the disc golf is fun).
DeBlob, HOTD overkill, Dead Space extraction, Wario Land shake and No more heroes are pretty good.
You might have already played them but RE4, Okami and Bully handle much better with the wii versions RE4 is without a doubt the best of all the versions.
I know you said no more Mario but yuo are missing Galaxy which would be a crime not to include and Mariokart which is great when playing with company or online.
07:33 AM
..
Damnit.. now i have to buy 2..
07:40 AM
No Galaxy.. Mario64 ruined 3d for me, it was about as responsive and controllable like pooh on a stick in a tornado..
So all in all i'm looking at 9 games, a wii and a second controller, which comes to about... €700..
Thank god for that government job.. With all these games, i think i can hybernate till February..
07:42 AM
Why the Mario hate? Galaxy is definitely one of the best games of this generation and Mariokart is great fun with company. It would seem a shame to miss out just because you don't like one character.
Oh and make sure to get some points the Wii shop has some great games both new and old, I would definitely put in my vote for Sin and Punishment it's a wonderful game and well worth it.
Did you have a gamecube? There are a load of great games for it that you can pick up cheap and play on the Wii with just a memory card and a gamecube controller like Beyond good and Evil, Wind waker,F zero Gx.

I played button style because I'm way to old for the motion stuff in a game like that!
07:46 AM
You should like it if you like Pikmin.
07:51 AM
It does have a really nice style all of its own though doesn't it?
I almost spat my cup of tea all over the place when I saw the erm first "Festival".
07:53 AM
I did.
I played.
First enemy.. i run up to him and start to go all jedi on his ass.. i'm swinging the mote left and right, up and down... nothing. Boom, pops up a textbox.
"Press A button to strike"
O_o
I did.. repeatedly then it prompts me (very unclearly so) to finally make a swing. I do just that, not registered. Again! Have at you! RAAAHH... nothing. I flick the mote slightly and it registers.
So my ultimate japanese anime-styled lightsabre swinging game boiled down to: press A x 100 and flick.
Fuck that! Unplugged the Wii and pushed it into my brother's reluctant hands.
Oh and the Mario thing... Mario symbolizes the transition to 3D.. I freakin' HATE 3D.. Mario on snes was great, clean, smooth sprites and fun level design. Mario64 took a jaggy sledgehammer to it all, and even uglified it all. It controlled and looked like a mess. Mario died for me that day.

Usually i hate FPS games on consoles, but metroid is so well done. And it's really great when you play them in the right order and think "i wish the game would have XY", than you finish and play the next one and realize "man this has XY! now i really would like to have some XYZ!". You finish it, start the next one and realize "Woah it has XYZ!".
The metroid games and Resident Evil4 are probably the only reasons i haven't thrown my wii out of the window yet. And if you want a onrails you should really take a look at dead space extraction, re chronicles isn't as arcarde like overkill but offers more content.
Just wish the wii would have a real light gun... this plastic strapon stuff doesn't work really well and the sights are often off. Oh how i miss time crisis on the PS1 :D
08:35 AM
hmm..
08:36 AM
Anyway, what I wanted to say was, Galaxy is the first of the 3D Mario games to actually do what SM64 couldn't and what Sunshine bizarrely barely even tried to do. Galaxy feels like a Mario game, trust me.

Not going to happen I'm afraid, from what I understand they only work with CRT's and with most new TV's being LCD or plasma it just wouldn't be worth it.
My partner got me a pair of the HOTD overkill pistols, they have a nice feel and a bit of heft to them. I find that spending 5 minutes fiddling with the controls really pays off when you manage to hit that sweet spot in Wii games that use the IR sensor for targeting.
10:00 AM
Yeah, it starts with button mashing, but as you get into the game, you realize that there's a lot of hidden moves. I can't figure out one of the moves, but a certain motion plus the A button caused Travis to spin his katana around, and take everyone out with a jumping move. Shaking the nunchuck is also a good chase/armor piercing move.
Once you start playing enough, you get a feel for the flick, and can usually make the motion before it prompts you, making it more seamless... except the occasional time when it doesn't register.
Also, fighting the common enemies isn't the main appeal of the game. It's them damn boss fights.
10:09 AM
I was totally excited of doing full motion fighting... buttons and flicking don't come close.
It's like you're promised chocolate cream cake and you can't wait. Then the moment comes and it's a fruitcake.. a stale, mundane fruit cake... Sure, it's cake but it's kinda ruined now..
10:25 AM
Easily my game of the generation so far. That's including every console, too. I would drop NSMBW and get SMG instead, if you're looking to limit your Mario intake (although I don't know why you would...)
10:34 AM
But basically you start managing only four people and only one class. And a day/night thingy going on. Eventually it starts to get really deep, but nothing too crazy.
I also don't like strategy games very much, but LkS is pretty good... kinda like pikmin (minions that you launch to fight) and harvest moon (upgrading your kingdom, managing some resourses, having to keep happy multiple wives) combined together in a T game with a pretty girl, a naked musitian and Don Quijote helping you manage your kingdom and taking over the world.
By the by... if you haven't play pikmin or any other cube game please pick up the remakes of Pikmin 2 and Donkey Kong.
Also Wario Land Shake It! - Another 2d platformer, and give ExciteBots a rent and play it with an open mind :P It's pretty fun, has a lot of content and a good, if not very simple, online system going on, but it might just be the most sureal racer.
And Super Paper Mario, wich is a light action RPG and a 2d platformer mash up.
10:46 AM
LKS is very whimsical and a lot of fun.
Oh, also if you're into 2D platforming, definitely pick up Warioland. The animation will blow you away.
Finally, just reading all the comments, as someone who has played the first and third of the Prime series, definitely pick up the trilogy. Coming from a person who gets motion sickness playing most FPSs, I remember playing the first game on the cube back in the day and being amazed. The graphical fidelity won't have the same effect today (the art direction's still awesome), but the emphasis on exploration and that feeling you get when you upgrade your suit after you take a huge-ass boss down make this a must have.
Just my two cents...

The implication being that if the Wii is suffering on home turf I find it surprising that is doing better in the US.
