Why Guys Should Care About Girl-Game Style Savvy |

And while the clothes offered in this game are (obviously) all female, I was really impressed by the resource management that this game demands of you. People coming into your store, with certain looks / items they want, but have budget constraints. It teaches you to prioritize which clothing items would be best for which customer and their given needs. Its like how in an RPG, you may think to yourself...'I only have enough money for a new piece of armor or a new sword...which should I get?'
Seriously....more games with clothes / fashion / style in them please. I think that we are (slowly) heading into that direction. Sports games now feature licensed gear, Nomura is teaming up with a Japanese designer for the clothes in FF 13-Versus, and the DJ Hero screenshots show off characters with licensed hip-hop gear (A Bathing Ape, etc).
We need to put more real life clothes and brands on our video game characters....not the other way around.

Then, I'll play any game regardless of how manly/girly it is if it looks interesting! I wanted more DS music games so I picked up Pinky Street: Kirakira Music Hour, lol... (not bad! Collect clothes and accessories between dance-offs. :p)

I agree with you. Gamers just judge things off of looks alone. It seriously feels like this generation's attitude has brought us back 10 years.

You clearly haven't been paying attention to any of the previous generations.

Last time I checked there were still public indecency laws. Or maybe you could be the pimp and you have to dress them up in order to get the most business out of them.
Hookers can be classy too. Just look at Julia Roberts.

Hats off to the Stephen.
I may never play Style Savvy, but the observations on how a female-targeted game is as much a vehicle for stereotypes as a male-targeted one* were very interesting.
*with all the caveats Totilo mentioned about what's considered "masculine" or "feminine" ('cause if listening, empathy and aesthetics are feminine traits, I should probably get a sex change operation - unless... how about lame humour, is that masculine? Yes? Hurray, I'm saved!).

Some people dont have that job though...
Or it can build up hope until experience crushes them into a pathetic state of despair, leaving them as prey for manipulations of a sinister plot that I cr..ayola makes good crayons?...

Still, I don't see this being fun going from the article. Maybe it'll be like The Conveni games where the fun comes in from designing and managing a successful store, but if the primary gameplay revolves around just picking up on blatant hints (ie., animal shelter volunteer wants animal themed clothing), I don't think this being interesting or fun to anyone barring maybe the young girls the game is targeting.

Think about it.

Maybe I thought about it too much. Nah.

As you noted earlier, Dead of Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball requires listening and other (rather stereotypically assumed) "female" traits to progress through the game along with the dressing up aspect presented here. Where are the articles deriving such insight from it? This just seems like little more than a cash grab at a targeted growing demographic (tween girls with disposable income), and while I'm sure some will play it, I still don't see this being an interesting, fun game.
