Nintendo Brings "Special Version" Of Wii To Westin Hotels, Pushes Wii Fit

You may have already heard about the budding partnership between Nintendo and Westin Hotels, but both parties made the marketing marriage official today. Nintendo will be providing the chain with Wiis that update with new games automatically—no discs required—with Westin announcing it will integrate the system into its "WestinWORKOUT" program. The hotel chain will be adding titles like Wii Fit and Wii Sports to its workout centers, an idea it says is "ideal for business travelers and families who want to stay energized while on the road."

Also good for staying energized? Spectravision. The full release is after this.

Westin Renting Wiis For Free

Not so long ago, we ran a story about the Westin chain of hotels planning to supply Nintendo Wiis to hotel guests. Given the exorbitant price at which other chains rent the console, most of us figured that the Westin might price gouge as well. Not so, says their PR team. They've assured us that the Wii program will be "completely free of charge to all hotel guests."

When we asked if it would be part of a customer loyalty incentive program, they once again assured us that, "No—it will be free of charge to all guests of the hotel." OK, OK. We get it. Free. Here's the full Westin announcement:

Stay In This Hotel, Play Wii For $120 Per Hour

Manhattan's Le Parker MeridienWestin chain of hotels know what, at the moment, is hot. And what's most likely to get idiot holidaymakers (or adventurous business travellers with expense accounts) to part with silly amounts of cash money. It's not a well-stocked minibar. It's not convenient, discrete access to pornography. No, it's the NIntendo Wii, which they'll soon be offering in two ways to guests. One way is to rent the console from reception for $50. An hour. The other is to pop into the hotel's gym and work out with a personal trainer on a Wii. For $120 an hour. I promise you, cross my heart, this is not a lie. Indeed, it's just the tip of a games-console-rip-off iceberg, with other hotels offering stuff like DDR, Guitar Hero and Halo, all charged at extortionate rates. Let this be a public service announcement to all of you: companies make console travel bags for a reason, people.
