Valve Restocks Companion Cubes

The Weighted Companion Cube is not supposed to make people cry, but it most certainly did back in late December, when Valve's official plushies sold out within 24 hours of going on sale. We did not hate Valve for this. We were patient. We bided our time. Oh the biding we have done! Now said biding has paid off, as a fresh shipment of Weighted Companion Cubes have shown up at Valve's store, both in plushie and fuzzy dice formats. Both are available for $29.95, and both will more than likely be sold out within days, if not sooner. Aperture Science takes no responsibility for customers trampled to death in the ensuing rush.

Portal's Companion Cube Gets Teleported To Toronto

You may remember Posterchild's previous video game to real world work, when the artist started throwing up Super Mario Bros.-style question blocks made of cardboard and wrapping paper that dangled from tree limbs and light posts. Posterchild has taken another iconic video game block, the Weighted Companion Cube from Portal and installed it (with matching portal) on Bloor Street in Toronto. There are much bigger and much better pics of this fantastically super awesomeness at Posterchild's own blog, if you're not in the area to eyeball them yourself.

Official Plush Weighted Companion Cube Sells Out

In less than 24 hours, cube crazed gamers burned through Valve's entire available inventory of plush Weighted Companion cubes. The highly sought after bibelots went on sale around 4pm on Friday and by noon on Saturday they were completely sold out. I'm not really sure how many of these things they actually had sitting in the warehouse, but it's an impressive feat nonetheless. One would assume that the supply will be replenished soon in an effort to avoid the angry crowds of Portal fans storming the Valve offices with torches and pitchforks.

Official Weighted Companion Cubes Are Go!

Judging by the response to news that Valve was readying an official Weighted Companion Cube plush, demand for such a tchotchke is sky high. The good word from the boys and girls at Valve is that the silent star of Portal is now available in huggable polyester fiber, measuring 6" by 6" by 6" (about 15 centimeters cubed for our metric friends) and can be yours for only $29.99.

The product frenzy doesn't stop there, though, as Companion Cube fuzzy hanging-dice, Aperture Science mugs and Cake posters are all available in the store. Don't forget, though, that a life-sized Weighted Companion Cube is being auctioned off on eBay, with proceeds going to Child's Play.

The Official Plush Companion Cube

It seems that the game world has gone Weighted Companion Cube crazy. Who knew a little grey box with pink hearts on it could cause such a sensation. Portal fans have made Companion Cubes out of everything from cake to ice to plush. Well fear not, you will no longer have to jab your fingers with needles trying to sew your own as Valve is coming out with their own plushie version of the beloved Cube. According to this image found on Steam, the cube will come in regular form for keeping you company at your office or home and "fuzzy dice" form for you car. Now you'll never have to be without your friend wherever you may be. More »

Cake And Lies Below Your Thighs

We have witnessed the coming of the Weighted Companion Cube cake, as foretold by prophecy. Now the cycle is complete, as we witness the joining of cube and cake on the flesh of the one described in the ancient texts. And lo would appear a man, or possibly woman who holdeth leg hairs sacred, whose shins bear the ultimate truth of the universe. I'm pretty sure those are shins. You know what folks? The guy who said a picture is worth a thousand words had more descriptive pictures in mind. A paragraph of text along with a picture is worth like...a jillion words. Otherwise we have to speculate, and you wouldn't like us when we speculate. Thanks for the pic, Niki!

The Weighted Companion Cube Cake

Ever since the release of The Orange Box, gamers have gone Companion Cube crazy. There have been wallpapers, a papercraft, myriad fan-art and even a home made plushie dedicated to the little heart adorned box. I suppose it was just a matter of time before someone made a Companion Cube cake and it looks like that time is now. Half-Life 2.net forum poster f1r3b4ll and his significant other baked this tasty treat after completing Portal n honor of the game that has spawned numerous internet memes within it's first couple weeks of existence. Bon appetit! More »
