Man CAD really sucks. Maybe if it actually had an artstyle that matched the 'story' element of the strip it'd be okay. I mean it'd still suck but....er...
Ok I admit, sometimes I don't get certain jokes or comics, but I know when there is supposed to be one and I'm just not getting it.
But I'm pretty damn sure there is absolutely no punchline to Ctrl Alt Del. Does this guy even know how to write? I'm serious, not trying to be incredibly insulting, (but I guess I am) but this guy really doesn't seem to get it. It's unnecessarily wordy, and it's trying to have a plot, which is stupid for a short web comic. And does it even have anything to do with gaming any more? Jeez.
Kotaku? It's a site about gaming, for the most part.
It is not a site about ridiculously poorly written drama.
So why, despite all the weekly complaints, despite the complete irrelevancy to the site, despite the abysmal brain-melting terribadness of Ctrl-Alt-Del, is it still put up weekly, despite NEVER BEING ABOUT GAMES?
@WhiteMåge: Technically, the comic bills itself as a gaming comic. But I do agree with you, the majority of strips have very little to do with gaming.
Ethan and Lucas don't even talk about games anymore, so the closest thing to gaming present in the comics is:
-Ethan works/owns a game store, though games aren't really mentioned that much. Doesn't count.
-That Rob guy who works there still talks about Counter-Strike all the time, as if we were still in the days where CS is only a few years old and that kind of guy even exists anywhere in the world. A tired joke that somehow still lives on: doesn't count.
-Lilah is a pro gamer, but this could really be ANY job, because it only comes up if Buckley wants to have some weird power struggle where Ethan is insecure about her being the breadwinner or something. Doesn't count.
-Come to think of it, you pretty much would never guess that Lucas even plays games, because I can't recall the last time his character even talked about them. Obviously doesn't count.
-Then there's Zeke, the shameless ripoff of HK-47 from Knights of the Old Republic, who is technically an Xbox. Doesn't count.
Which leaves the completely unrelated strips that don't feature of the characters and are actually about gaming. And the "sillies", which are essentially the same thing, only with more phoned-in art.
So yeah, if he cut out the whole "characters" and "storyline" thing, then at least his comic could actually be called a gaming comic, though that still wouldn't guarantee that it was actually any good.
@nworobes: I agree on all of your points except about Penny Arcade. Lately, I have gotten the feeling that they're not as into the three panel game gags as they were in the past, as they've both (Tycho and Gabe) matured in their respective styles. I think they jsut keep pumping out the three a week out of habit and a need to feed their families.
Uhh... I think you accidentally publish Nerf NOW's comic from last week. (Real one is picture in post.)
And I actually liked PvP's "The Incident" series this week. Gave me a big chuckle from my otherwise depressing days. DotGif was pretty funny... And YEAAAAAAAAAH, 2PStart is back, baby! (But where's GG Guys?)
I mean, it describes the way Excitebike is played in a non-humorous manner. Like, that's actually how you play the game. You could probably make a similar flowchart for most other early-era NES or Atari games.
Now the Ken flowchart? That shit's funny for the same reason that MNC's comic isn't. #sundaycomics

Other than that, though, I think THIS will be Ronald Emmerich's next movie plot, hon...

That was AWESOME. The theme song just complemented the comic, thanks so much for sharing that.
(And once again, I smiled at the EarthBound references and the MegaMan ones...)

I just shedded the manliest tears of my life.

That was absolutely incredible. Honestly, one of the best comics I've seen online.

And still be far less awesome than this.

And CAD....I....just don't get it.

PvP's The Incident Series was pretty funny this week, but you should start from the beginning in order to get it: [www.pvponline.com]
