WAR Launches In-Game Halloween Spooktacular
Even a brand-spanking new MMO like Warhammer Online can't resist holding their own Halloween Spooktacular in-game events. Beginning today, October 29th, Witching Night descends upon on the lands of WAR, bringing with it four new public quests and a live in-game event that pits players from both realms against ancient evil forces. Of course any Halloween event wouldn't be complete without special goodies, and Mythic tons of special items, exclusive titles, and special event-only cloaks lined up. As a special Warhammer Online twist, some items can only be looted from other players in Realm vs. Realm play, so don't get so caught up in the festivities that you forget who the enemy are. More » -

Warhammer Online Doubles Open-World RVR XP
If you understood the headline you probably know this already, but it bears mentioning anyway. Mythic really, really wants people to kill each other in Warhammer Online, and not just in their encapsulated littlebattlegroundsscenarios. Overlooked Warhammer Devs Get Their Due Credit
We heard last month that a bunch of people were going to be left out of Warhammer Online's credits. Didn't seem like the right thing to do, especially in the wake of similar fiascos involving Manhunt 2 and Okami. Well, turns out Mythic are now going to do the right thing, and will be making the entire credits - which will contain everyone that ever worked on the game - available online. And not just for WAR; they're going to go back and do this for Dark Age of Camelot as well. The full statement announcing the move (made by the IGDA's Jen MacLean) can be found after the jump. Warhammer Online Reg Deadline Slips A Few Days
A bit of outrage is stirring among Warhammer Online players who pre-ordered the game, expecting to be able to play through September 22th before having to enter the registration key from a retail box copy. A post at the official Warhammer Online website yesterday revealed otherwise. Now the deadline is *checks watch* several hours ago, so folks who opted for slightly slower shipping now find themselves waiting a weekend to return to their characters, or in extreme cases scrambling for a retail version of the game just to keep themselves from going through withdraw. Cut Content To Return In Warhammer Online
In July, a bunch of stuff got cut from Warhammer Online. Sad news. But don't despair! It'll be making its way back into the game down the line. And not as paid DLC or a paid expansion, either, just as part of the game's regular, free updates. Mythic made no mention specifically about just what was due for a reprieve, but since the July cuts were a bunch of playable classes and some cities, we'll presume that's what they're talking about. Mythic Entertainment today reveals that folks who pre-ordered Warhammer Online will get a chance to start building their characters come September 14th, four days before the retail launch. Oh wait, did I say folks who pre-ordered? I meant folks who pre-ordered the Collector's Edition. Those who opted to reserve the standard edition will get access on Tuesday, September 16th, which is only a two-day head start. It's Mythic's way of showing their scalable appreciation for your interest in their product. More » -

IGDA: Warhammer Credits Snub "Disrespectful"
There are a ton of former Warhammer Online developers who haven't made it into the game's final credits. And they are not happy. And understandably so! That's months, sometimes years of work, going totally unrecognised. Well, the IGDA (International Game Developers Association) are on the case, calling the snub "disrespectful" and using it as the latest example as to why the industry should adopt their idea for a set of universal crediting guidelines. Warhammer Online Latest Game To Dog Former Devs In Credits
Warhammer Online has been in development for years now. And as a project has seen its fair share of ups and downs. Contributing to both those ups and downs have been literally hundreds of staffers who have worked with developers Mythic over the years, from the game's announcement in 2005 through their acquisition by EA through to today. But in a move that's sure to reignite the controversy over crediting in the videogame industry, only those currently employed at Mythic will be recognised in the game's credits. A former Mythic dev has told Shacknews: More » -

Warhammer Online Loses Four Cities, Four Classes
The good news? Warhammer Online just launched its Guild Beta. The bad news? There's a bit less game for the Guilds to beta. In an interview with MMORPG.com, Mythic Entertainment VP and General Manager Mark Jacobs explains that in order for the game to be ready for launch, certain sacrifices had to be made, including nixing four of the sixstaringracial capital cities in favor of one for each faction, and getting rid of four of the classes that they just couldn't make work. On the cutting board are the Choppa (Greenskin), the Hammerer (Dwarf), the Blackguard (Dark Elf), and the Knight of the Blazing Sun (Empire)...two DPS classes and two tank classes. More » -

The PC At E3 - The Keyboard And Mouse Brigade
While we've taken a good hard look at what we expect from Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony during E3 2008, we've not yet touched on the original gaming platform, the personal computer. Back during my first visit to E3 in 1998, PC gaming made up a relatively large portion of the show, with PC publishers large and small showing off everything from big-name titles to tiny indie games like Space Bunnies Must Die. The new E3 has changed that a great deal. Smaller companies who might have once brought their games to the Expo for exposure to retailers and publishers just can't justify the space to show off their wares...and why should they? In the age of high-speed internet, smaller companies can deliver a demo to the press in minutes, so the PC presence has definitely dwindled at the event.
