You know, there's a lot of motion control hate going on here. I can understand some of it, but I don't think motion controls are really all that bad. The problem is that as a means of control it's still pretty far from perfected and so shouldn't be relied on too heavily. The best games with motion controls tend to use them sparingly. And it makes me think of the first analog sticks, which worked, but were sort of wonky at times. That was actually pretty simplistic implementation compared to motion controls, but still analog sticks have gotten a hell of a lot better. And that's what needs to happen with motion controls. Sony and Microsoft are both taking pretty important steps forward to better the tech of motion control. I don't think either will be really incredible (and I still think camera-only is a misstep for Microsoft), but they will be improvements. A lot of you will continue to despise motion controls. But some of us will be open to the new ideas. There will certainly be some bad games--developers who try to use the motion controls more heavily than they can be relied upon--but there will also be break throughs.
All the same, even if motion controls truly take off eventually, the standard controls we've come to know (which have evolved quite heavily over the years on their own) will remain, because they are simple and reliable. Even on the Wii there are a number of games that use a pretty standard control layout (sometimes optional, sometimes the main control theme).
All I'm saying is don't be so quick to completely denounce the 360 & PS3 motion controls when we haven't experienced them yet. Especially since they won't even be the main interface of either system. You don't have to endorse them, just wait and see what becomes of them, let the rest of us test the waters for you.
I think this can turn out to be highly successful if they manage to pull out some decent games they give you the *option* to use the motion controller or the *option* to use a regular controller. I forsee a few problems with Natal though, since there is virtually no way you can avoid having to get up off the couch to play a game using the motion control capabilities. At least with the PS3, you're holding something that you could use from the couch, if you really wanted to. I guess you can also play Natal while sitting on the couch, but it would probably think you're a very short person. I remain skeptical about the idea of just using a camera, and a camera alone for tracking. There should always be some sort of peripheral for a game of which you are holding. Natal would be great without holding anything as a wireless means of navigating a menu system, but that's all I see going for it without a lot of high risk endeavors.
Of course they're going to try this route. When you release on a Nintendo console you're fighting an uphill battle against arguably the biggest casual game company out there with the biggest name recognition; with the Xbox Camera or PS3 Vibrator your family-friendly competition are a bunch of pinatas and sack dolls, neither of which have nearly as much fame as a bunch of bearded plumbers. The sales potential of both peripherals are still an unknown, but there's really nothing to lose here by being first out the gate.
I find it odd that they have more Natal games than Sphere games.
Especially since they have a fair few Wii proprieties they could probably easily transfer from Wiimote control to Sphere.
Of course what will be nice is too see some of these titles they are bringing out. Cos as of yet we have nothing. MS have 14 launch titles, and Sony have 4 months till spring, and neither have got anything. This isn't field of dreams.
You can't just build it and hope they will come, they must of had a word with some studios beforehand, cos R&D to make these devices isn't cheap. You need to know theres some backing on it, but you want to have some hype building up for it, and 4 months till launch you want to see something.
Not that I expect much to come out of these at launch beyond party games. But I kinda want some feasible title to grasp and see how the hell these expect these to play out.
Someone at Sony needs to nail down what exactly their motion controller is going to be like. And they need to give it a name. 'Sony's motion controller' is getting a bit old-sounding.
@OW-Holmes:Bringer of Fear: You hae a point. It isn't Natal, it's Project Natal, which like the many iterations of Windows (Chicago, Longhorn, etc) would indicate that a new name is coming at some point.

Let me put it to you in perspective.
Having sex with five 2's is NOT better than sex with one 10.
One night with 5 Paris Hiltons does not equal one night with one Halle Berry.
