The first episode of VH1's Rock Band 2: The Stars recently debuted. In case you were wondering, both Alice Cooper and Sebastian Bach are trying to find the best Rock Band players out there to start their own bands with. This involves many challenges, such as being able to play Rock Band on expert or smashing your guitar in a real cool way. They kick off five people in the first episode, including one of the only few girl singers. But don't worry, they all sucked. And hey, if it's any consolation, I know there's one guy out there looking for a singer!

<![CDATA[Farewell, VH1 Game Break]]> It looks like another blog is being crushed under he heavy wheels of the internetz. Game Break, VH1's gaming blog is closing its doors. In a final article by editor Harold Goldberg (who single handedly ran the blog since June of 2007), he bids a fond farewell to his loyal readers and talks a bit about his time with the blog. He also let people know where they can find him and where to go to get their daily dose of game news and even gives a shout out to your humble Kotaku team.

And so we bid adieu to Harold and Game Break. You will be missed.

<![CDATA[Rock Band VH1 Mockumentary]]>

All the MTV Networks are going all out to promote the launch of Rock Band. Above you can see a clip of the first act of VH1's "mockumentary," ROCK BAND Cometh: The Rock Band Band Story. It's sort of like Behind the Music...but with plastic instruments and everyone's favorite TV host Kurt Loder! The best part are the talking head interviews with Dave Mustaine from Megadeth, Anthony DeCurtis from Rolling Stone....and Mandy Moore? Let's hope this isn't a sign of Mandy Moore DLC coming for Rock Band. If you want to watch more of the documentary you can go to VH1's Rock Band site or watch it on VH1 Classic when it premieres on November 11 and 8 PM ET/PT. Spinal Tap it is not.

<![CDATA[VH1's Pimped PS3 Contest]]> VH1 wants you to show them your old-school PlayStation love. From now until May 21st, you can log in to the comment section over at the VH1 Game Break site and write out your favorite PlayStation 1 story, anecdote, memory, fever dream, or drug-induced hallucination using 150 words or less. The best entry will win a shiny new PlayStation 3 for their troubles, complete with flOw, Calling All Cars, and a custom laser-etch job based off of a photo or artwork that you yourself provide.

Looking through the entries already posted, I'd say you have a pretty good chance at winning if you can string together a halfway coherent sentence. I'd enter myself, but all of my PS1 stories are dirty.

<![CDATA[Bon Jovi Talks Pong, Pinball]]>

VH1 Games Harold Goldberg, who I hear once dated Jade Raymond, had a chance to sit down with Jon Bon Jovi recently to talk about Electronic Arts' Arena Football: The Road to Glory.

To summarize the Q&A:

JBJ isn't a gamer, but played a touch of Pong and loved pinball and his kids love video games.

Anyone who loved pinball, and how could Jon Bon Jovi not be a huge pinball fan, I mean look at that hair, is A-OK in my book.

<![CDATA["I Got A Wii-mote Stuck Up My Ass" or Wii Has Best Week Ever]]>

One of my favorite TV shows, VH1's weekly roundup of entertainment news and hot topics Best Week Ever, gave the Nintendo Wii the coveted award of having, well, the "Best Week Ever". Fortunately, no footage of said colon lodged Wii exists, but apparently it happened during a rousing game of Wii Sports tennis. Ouch.

<![CDATA[VH1 Kicks MTV's Guitar Hero Ass]]>

Say it ain't so. I always thought MTV kicked VH1's ass, but apparently it's the other way round. The VH1 Online gaming team went up against the MTV Wireless squad in a Guitar Hero grudge match and apparently wiped the floor with them.

Highlights included Austin rocking out with a flawless rendition of "Iron Man," Paul reaching 62,000+ in Joan Jett's classic "I Love Rock & Roll," Felicia with nearly 67,000 with "Sharp Dressed Man," and Jen with a mammoth 82,000+ in "I Wanna Be Sedated." Can the intrepid MTV Wireless team ever come back from such an overwhelming flogging? Stay tuned.

I want to see Goldberg take on Totillo. Then I'd be impressed.

<![CDATA[The Movies' Site Ready for Its Close-Up]]>

VH1's new game site, Game Break, points out that Lionhead has freshened up their Movies site. The make-over is in preperation for The Movies upcoming expansion pack Stunts and Effects, which hits on June 6. The relaunch includes giving The Movies movie-makers the ability to market and promote their Sim-like films with posters. The site will also have new categories for films made with the expansion pack. Finally, people who buy the expansion pack will get their site disk space bumped up from 10 megs to 25 megs. So far the site is host to almost 90,000 movies, which, if played back-to-back, would take 196 days to watch. That and the ability to stomach an endless stream of cliche-ridden blockbuster knock-offs.

<![CDATA[R.B.I. Baseball Emulator's Success Story]]> buckner.jpg

Thought the Mets-Red Sox's World Series R.B.I. Baseball recreation was cool? That's not the half of it. The clip was created by 24 year-old Conor Lastowka, who had just quit his gig as a database manager. He'd heard about a YouTube contest that offered $25,000 for the best pop culture satire. Lastowka immediately thought of the 1986 World Series.

The game has become infamous among sports fans for first baseman Bill Buckner's dubious error that cost the Red Sox's the final game. Lastowka decided to use the game to create the game pitch for pitch. According to Yahoo News, he eat alot of Wheat Thins (uh-huh) as he downloaded the game's original broadcast and got to work, using an emulator on his computer. By the 10th inning, the game had to be perfect. For example, it took him 200 tries to get the Mets' Keith Hernandez to fly out to center field.

"Recreating it like I did makes you appreciate how improbable it was," Lastowka said. "Even when you're trying to do stuff like that, it's amazing to see everything that had to happen."

Next, the Mets' Mookie Wilson hit a dribbler towards first base. The announcer yells, "Behind the bag... It gets through Buckner!" Lastowka's changes history a bit and has the ball bounce off the Red Sox's Bill Buckner, which causes the character to cry momentarily.

Four hours of play were spent to recreate that one inning, and another six hours were spent matching the footage with the announcer. Lastowka's clip clocked in at 8 minutes, 39 seconds and was way over the 3 minute time limit for the YouTube contest. (D'oh!)

So, Lastowka posted the clip online. And got absolutely no prize money.

There is a happy ending, his R.B.I. Baseball vid landed him a job at Legend Films, a colorization and restoration house for old films. "I love the spirit behind baseball," Lastowka said. "It's definitely the kind of thing I'd like to do again."

Okay, sure. Thing is, the back story is way more interesting than the actual vid. Wonder what the drama is with that 11-minute Mario dude... Somebody get VH1 on the line, because I'd like to pitch "Behind The Fanboy Video Game Clips."

Full Piece Here [Yahoo] Thanks, Eric!
