Farewell, VH1 Game Break

It looks like another blog is being crushed under he heavy wheels of the internetz. Game Break, VH1's gaming blog is closing its doors. In a final article by editor Harold Goldberg (who single handedly ran the blog since June of 2007), he bids a fond farewell to his loyal readers and talks a bit about his time with the blog. He also let people know where they can find him and where to go to get their daily dose of game news and even gives a shout out to your humble Kotaku team. More »

Rock Band VH1 Mockumentary

All the MTV Networks are going all out to promote the launch of Rock Band. Above you can see a clip of the first act of VH1's "mockumentary," ROCK BAND Cometh: The Rock Band Band Story. It's sort of like Behind the Music...but with plastic instruments and everyone's favorite TV host Kurt Loder! The best part are the talking head interviews with Dave Mustaine from Megadeth, Anthony DeCurtis from Rolling Stone....and Mandy Moore? Let's hope this isn't a sign of Mandy Moore DLC coming for Rock Band. If you want to watch more of the documentary you can go to VH1's Rock Band site or watch it on VH1 Classic when it premieres on November 11 and 8 PM ET/PT. Spinal Tap it is not.

"I Got A Wii-mote Stuck Up My Ass" or Wii Has Best Week Ever

One of my favorite TV shows, VH1's weekly roundup of entertainment news and hot topics Best Week Ever, gave the Nintendo Wii the coveted award of having, well, the "Best Week Ever". Fortunately, no footage of said colon lodged Wii exists, but apparently it happened during a rousing game of Wii Sports tennis. Ouch.

VH1 Kicks MTV's Guitar Hero Ass

Say it ain't so. I always thought MTV kicked VH1's ass, but apparently it's the other way round. The VH1 Online gaming team went up against the MTV Wireless squad in a Guitar Hero grudge match and apparently wiped the floor with them. More »

The Movies' Site Ready for Its Close-Up

VH1's new game site, Game Break, points out that Lionhead has freshened up their Movies site. The make-over is in preperation for The Movies upcoming expansion pack Stunts and Effects, which hits on June 6. The relaunch includes giving The Movies movie-makers the ability to market and promote their Sim-like films with posters. The site will also have new categories for films made with the expansion pack. Finally, people who buy the expansion pack will get their site disk space bumped up from 10 megs to 25 megs. So far the site is host to almost 90,000 movies, which, if played back-to-back, would take 196 days to watch. That and the ability to stomach an endless stream of cliche-ridden blockbuster knock-offs. More »

R.B.I. Baseball Emulator's Success Story

Thought the Mets-Red Sox's World Series R.B.I. Baseball recreation was cool? That's not the half of it. The clip was created by 24 year-old Conor Lastowka, who had just quit his gig as a database manager. He'd heard about a YouTube contest that offered $25,000 for the best pop culture satire. Lastowka immediately thought of the 1986 World Series. More »
