I'm going to use your comment for some testing, thanks buddy.

Considering I was already at 70 hours in Tales, with friends and fans of my podcast giving me grief I hadn't beaten it yet, it was a shortcut I was glad to take. #namcobandai

Some people could stand to have a game that's actually of real length for once. #namcobandai

When it comes to RPGs, "Spiritual Successors" are the way to go. Hell, I wish all sequels would be abandoned and we'd just be left with "Spiritual Successors", but with RPGs its kinda a necessity. #namcobandai

I don't know if I completely agree as I loved FFVI:AC, but I'm convinced that AC is the WORSE game ever made.
I kept pressing 'X' and nothing happened.
Anyhoo, sequels are sometimes necessary, we want to know what else happened or what else can happen and since Vesperia is sorta the popular Tales series at the moment. It seems to be sorta a 'dur' for Bamco to make some more money on it. #namcobandai

Yeah, I'm sure Bandai Namco is just seeing green (or whatever color Yen is), but if they aren't careful (and considering their track record this gen, I doubt they will be), they'll destroy what should have been a self-contained story. #namcobandai

In order to make Advent Children, they had to do a Marvel-style retcon. Some of the Sephiroth clones were somehow still around, Rufus didn't really die in that explosion, and Sephiroth comes back - without Jenova being alive, even though we learned at the end of FFVII that Sephiroth was a complete pansy when he didn't have Mommy around to back him up.
So, Square Enix kinda destroyed a good bit of what was supposed to happen in FFVII, just so that they could make a few moneyhats off of Cloud and Sephiroth doing the steel-tipped tango again. #namcobandai

Your favorite character died? Obviously you haven't played the sequel where your party remembers they can use a Pheonix Down to revive him/her. #namcobandai
10/17/09
PS3 Version probably has better closure, too bad I don't have one yet.
Fuck you Namco Bandai. #namcobandai
10/17/09
I think if Namco Bandai made a Tales Of game with more realistic character-proportions and no "magical girl" characters, I would probably enjoy it. #namcobandai
10/17/09
You should do what you want and not worry about what others think. But who would think badly of you for playing ToV? #namcobandai
10/17/09
10/18/09
This is actually one of the reasons why I like the Tales series: the recurring theme is always a form of xenophobia, people hating and doing bad things to others just because they're "different". It's sometimes better executed, sometimes less, but it remains to this day the prime example of that theme being woven into a JRPG. #namcobandai
10/18/09
And the intertwining stories between the main character and his best friend were awesome. I was happy with the fact you never got to play as him too, the PS3 version kinda irks me in that respect. #namcobandai

On the other hand I loved Tales of Symphonia nearly as much as I loved ToV and when a heard of a sequel to it I was immediately excited at how awesome it would be. Then I got to play it and got to listen to the worst protagonist ever sit there and apologize every 3 seconds for what a sorry sack of shit pussy he was. I was needless to say very disappointed.
So while I would love to see a ToV sequel I can only hope that it's only done if the story fits and they let us use the same cast and perhaps add to it some new people to tag along. If it can't be close to as good as the original then don't bother with it. I can do without the disappointment. #namcobandai

I thought that was something they did...which would explain lackluster response to ToS2, considering in all reality ToS was a clusterfuck of terribleness overloaded with plot twists and horrendous writing and characterization.
I mean yeah, I played and beat it like 20 times, but it was terrible! It was great but terrible. #namcobandai

10/17/09
Who's to say ToV2 wouldn't be the same thing though. Namco has done it a few times already with Baten Kaitos and Symphonia.
And hey. I really liked the story for the original ToS! I also thought the characters were very likable. It wasn't the best story i ever saw but it wasn't the worst either. #namcobandai
10/17/09
We could easily make a list of 500+ plot twists :p #namcobandai

Symphonia, Abyss, and Vesperia are the only Tales games I have played in large amounts.
If I rated them...
Vesperia: 10/10
Symphonia: 8/10
Abyss: 6/10
So perhaps they're just getting better? I love Vesperia to no end, I loved ToS but acknowledge its problems, and I really couldn't stand TotA and felt it was a poor purchase.
So now I'm wary! Even if ToV2 does get made and even if it is the same team, it might be wildly different! D:
Though now that I know it's team symphonia, maybe they'd consider adding the T and S arte system back in, which is something to potentially look forward to :D #namcobandai
10/17/09
And I think Symphonia was great, just great, period. #namcobandai
10/17/09
My main problem, I think, was being completely unable to relate to the party. After...an incident...early on, despite it happening because someone with no memory and no friends but one person made a mistake...the entire party turns into a group of complete dicks. They were so mean and refusing to understand that I wanted to cry. ._.
Though I seem alone in thinking that, too. #namcobandai

Which I guess was all partly due to them working on Vesperia at the same time. #namcobandai

This time don't shaft the 360 version. It would be nice to see where the world is now and how everyone has developed since the end of the first game. #namcobandai

Since all those titles come from Japan it's convienent to just curse at Japan as a single entity. =)
In short, besides Demon's Souls i'd like the games i just mentioned being releases before being fed info on the sequels, it's more.. natural somehow. #namcobandai
10/17/09
Well, it's a sequel to FFXI, more than it is to XIII. VERSUS is the XIII sequel we should be worrying about. #namcobandai
10/17/09
It's just confusing at times, ya'know.. #namcobandai
10/17/09
10/17/09
That there'll be another HD Tales game is about the same as asking which platform the series hasn't been on.
10/17/09
10/17/09
and while you're at it, when's the US getting the enhanced PS3 port? #namcobandai
10/17/09
Honestly, Namco should just skip the sequel and work on a brand new HD Tales game for both PS3 and 360 that has some supporting characters who aren't painfully stereotyped idiots. Direct sequels to Tales games are always inferior to the originals. #namcobandai
10/17/09
10/17/09
The game we got in the US as Destiny 2 is ALRIGHT, but it's not a real direct sequel, just Namco being stupid with game titles.
10/17/09
I'm with you though, brand new game. A sequel, at best, would probably be a B- or so. New game could be pretty great, like Vesperia/Abyss/Symphonia. Looking forward to Graces... #namcobandai
10/17/09
10/17/09
I'd rather see Team Symphonia do something new; a Tales game without any offensively overdone anime stereotypes would be great.
Or hell, a game about Yuri and Repede that takes place before (or after) Vesperia 1 would be decent enough. I got nothing against Yuri, just leave out Estelle and the kids. Ugh.

10/17/09
Why do you still play these games, dude? It seems everything you hate about jRPGs is present on the newer tales games. Give it a rest, move on.
There's a reason why they are called the "STALES of" series. #namcobandai
10/17/09
Clearly, the series has refused to mature over time, and I might as well leave it behind. #namcobandai
10/18/09
You're amazing. #namcobandai
10/18/09
Never mind the fact that ALL the characters are painful cliches. What's that? Asbel wants to get stronger so he can PROTECT PEOPLE? That's never been in a JRPG before.
Sophie is a little girl who lost her memory, is clearly older than she thinks she is, and has a secret power that the entire story will revolve around? This is totally new and exciting!
Oh, the red haired girl is a maid who can never admit her true feelings so she remains quiet and indecisive all the time? SO GROUNDBREAKING!
How, exactly, do these characters insinuate "the best Tales game"? They strike me as the same laundry list of anime cliches that every modern JRPG cribs from nowadays. At least Abyss, with the exception of Anise, tried to take a few risks with its characterization. #namcobandai
