    What were they thinking? Did they not test the art-direction and see if people would like it?


    I don't even care about the fact that the graphics itself looks like early PS2. The character-models are so downright ugly I can't bring myself to want to buy it, and I'd love to play this sort of game.

    @ShadowOdin isn't american: They're trying to pull a Level-5 here, it's just that on Jean D'Arc it works... here, it doesn't...

    @zoesch: Jeanne d'Arc uses full japanese style, which works due to chibi, and much higher class of base-material.


    This tries to be something between Japanese and western style, and that's Western with full bodies, not cuter half-bodies. This is literally full-sized characters that they's given smaller bodies, and it looks horrible.


    @bakagaijin: It doesn't seem like most people who have seen the art will buy it due to that, so what I hope is that sales don't bomb, but it's not so good so that they ask for actual feedback so that they learn that people think it's really terrible.


    I mean when everyone is saying the same thing, and even here on Kotaku everyone is basically agreeing, then it has to be really bad.

    Based on that picture alone ... I quite like the style of the characters. Different strokes I guess, but I wouldn't say they were unsettling.

    @woons: Same, apart from the girl to the guy's right. Her face is a bit awkward, but it could be just that screenshot. But yeah, overall, the style looks nice. Not that I've ever played Vandal Hearts or anything!

    Glad I am not the only one thinking the game looks a little...dated in its graphics. Reminds me of PC-games I saw over a good five years ago, so it's not that impressive, especially compared with most other games on the PSN.


    BUT, I say if it plays good, then I am sold. With Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3 I am really starting to open up to the SRPG-genre.


    However, is there anyone else than I suspecting there might be a Vandal Hearts-release amongst the PSX-classics?

    IMO, that would be the BEST way for Konami to market this game.

    From a marketing standpoint it would feel rather stupid not to do it when they have the ability.

    There aren't a lot of SRPGs out on the PS3 because we already have Disgaea and nothing else can really compare.


    I mean, were I an SRPG developer that wasn't Nippon Ichi I would just pack my bags and go make an FPS or something.

    This is the most disappointing thing EVER! I loved Vandal Hearts II. It had some of the best medieval RPG music I've ever heard (seriously, check out the soundtrack, even if you didn't like the game), a very mature and interesting story, and interesting characters. Say what you want on it's merits as a sequel, but I enjoyed it immensely. I was awaiting the Vandal Hearts game for DS for a long while, and now we get this ugly-ass game? I am so pissed off!

    @Archaotic: True, but this certainly isn't the Vandal Hearts game I was expecting. If this is being outsourced to a Western developer then I can't say I have any hope for this.
