I really have to say that the poor graphics were keeping me away from PSP instalments of Valhalla Knights. Wii version just looks like Vagrant Story (stunning for PS1 release).
I have no idea why do they do this. I am 3D artist myself and I can say people who made these visuals could easily just add more polygons and bigger textures, it is Wii we are talking about. It is not lack of talent or lack of powerfull platform. Wii is more powerful than original Xbox.
I can think of two scenarios. 1) They jumped platform at the last second (even though visuals are way too poor for PSP too). 2) They don't have capable graphic programmers at Xseed.... which I doubt - since these guys made Brave Story!
@elmorepow: Vagrant Story still looks miles better than this to me because the graphics were modelled around quality artwork.
I remember looking at the horrid 3D models on the covers of the PSP games and wondering why they couldn't just hire any half decent artist for it - not like Japan has a shortage of them.
@FigNewton: The way I see it, games that aren't out yet only have so many ways to represent themselves. They get screen shots, trailers, press coverage and sometimes demos. Any one of these things might not be enough to really represent what the game is about or how good it looks, though, so I try to provide trailers and screens whenever I get them to let readers make up their own minds.
@AJ Glasser: It was far better at representing the game than your preview, which was informative to a point and then went onto a "lol Wii lol" tangent that was just obnoxious.
@em: Being brown shouldn't equal you not giving it a try. In fact reality is brown and grey. Just take a good hard look next time you're out. I guarentee you won't find any purple, yellow, orange, red, etc, etc, unless you saw them in a coca cola ad or something or live in the jungle with Tucan Sam.

@em: now on xbox live!: It suffers from what I call "Monster Hunter Syndrome" the background for most of the game seems to be a fairly plain grey/brown background with only the effects and some mobs ever really giving any interesting colour to the screen.
Not my cup of tea really, I don't expect games to be like the proverbial LSD trip but I like something other than a speckled brown and grey texture slapped on to anything that doesn't move.
[Edit]Realised I may have been a bit harsh on Monster Hunter there, they have improved it quite a lot in recent iterations[/Edit]
Seriously though, it doesn't necessarily keep me from trying it (I'll see how its reviewed and then maybe), but it is a bit...discouraging? They say to not "judge a book by it's cover," but a book with a nice, interesting cover is going to get my attention far more quickly then a book with a plain one. Visually, this game doesn't appeal to me.
@sweenster: "Not my cup of tea really, I don't expect games to be like the proverbial LSD trip but I like something other than a speckled brown and grey texture slapped on to anything that doesn't move."
This is definitely weird in light of issues Marvelous had with their other titles not selling on the Wii. They were even reported to have posted on their staff blog that they were thinking of porting their Wii games to other consoles to recoup costs. Weird...
I'm starting to think even Kotaku might be a little biased when it comes to video games. Every article they've posted about a Wii exclusive game they've questioned why it's only on the Wii.
@CaptJapan: Well, as much as I hate bias against my own favourite console, the site has never claimed to be a neutral gaming news source.
At it's heart, it's just a blog...
@There was a Star here...it's gone now, I know it sucks : (: No you're not. However the reason this is said so frequently is because of how graphic whorish most gamers have gotten (I admit myself included). It can be fun and full of waggle (Bloom Blox), but if it doesn't look like "next gen" graphics, then it automatically makes it a inferior game.
Also keep in mind the Wii is known to some as a system Nintendo didn't jump to next generation on, which like I said before is because it doesn't have graphics like the Xbox 360/PS3/Computer

@There was a Star here...it's gone now: It really is obnoxious to see that line of reasoning as a complaint. I love games like Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Castle of Shikigami III, yet neither have motion controls, nor do they need them.
It's stupefying to see journalists still complaining about this. Asking why this game is on the Wii and not the PS2 is like the fanboys that keep asking why Big Wii Release A isn't coming to the PS3 or 360.
It's true plenty of games on the Wii give you the option of playing without motion controls and that's appealing. However, if you're going to make a game for a home console that's big gimmick is motion controls, why wouldn't you try and incorporate them somehow, even just as an option?
To me, this seems like a case of unrealized possibilities and so I call it out when I see it.
@AJ Glasser: Why should they have to? What if a company just doesn't have a very high budget but would like to make something bigger than a PS2 game? The Wii is there for it.
It's like complaining about how a game is on the DS but just uses the bottom screen for a map or stats or something and that it should be on the PSP because of that. Games go where the developers want them to go and I'd assume they know better than a bunch of people on some gaming website.
@AJ Glasser: Would you rather an already solid game taint itself with motion controls that are either unnecessary or only harmful to the experience because the developer saw fit to shoehorn such controls into a game that doesn't need them?
As Ueziel says, there's nothing to call out. There are fantastic games for the console that don't use motion controls at all and such games should not be chided for their lacking.
@There was a Star here...it's gone now: I assume it's a rhetorical question, because the answer is obvious. It's coming out for the Wii because the Wii has the largest installed base, and the developers care more about that than making a superior product, which it would inevitably be if it were made for either of the other consoles.
And of course, few developers would actually want to admit that. It is, however, why I only buy games of this variety used, so that the developer doesn't get a single penny in reward from me for thinking of their pocketbook instead of the gamer/game quality.
Oh, and better hardware doesn't *only* equal better graphics. Better proc, more memory, etc. means you can make the exact same game for less effort, as you don't have to worry as much about memory space, optimizing, etc. or a better game for the same amount of effort. (Or, admittedly, a WAY better game with a LOT more effort) Sure, some game concepts are simple enough that the only use for improved hardware would be fancier graphics. But that isn't always true. And even then, better graphcis ARE better.
@Ueziel: Still, if the developer made the previous games on the PSP, and is now jumping up to the Wii, you'd think it couldn't be THAT hard to talk to their contacts at Sony to get it on the PS2 (and tone down the graphics slightly) as well as the Wii. Especially since the game sounds like it could benefit from a controller with more buttons.
@AJ Glasser: What is wrong with the wii having games that don't rely on motion controls? What is wrong with it being a full-fledged console with many different genres and styles represented?
Are you going to start previewing ps3 games that are a tad short and asking "Why is this on PS3? The game doesn't even fill a bluray disc."
@GnatB: But using the excuse of better hardware for less-than good optimization is bad, lazy development. The same for install sizes, assuming that people have at least 250GB shouldn't be an excuse for anything. I'd rather see the same mesh/texture more than once than see 15GB of space taken away.
This generation is awful when it comes to the above. People should stop ragging on the Wii's lack of hardware. We lived with similar hardware for how many years?
Friend said this and I agree with it:
"Bad graphics can't make a good game worse
Good graphics can't make a bad game better
Good graphics can make a good game better"
Now I'm not saying limiting your developers' options is good , but you shouldn't rag on the company who brought something new and then praise the company that can't learn to work with what they have.
That being said, the number of wii sales is probably what's driving it to get more games like this (ports).
Shouldn't it be nice that the Wii is getting this game instead of the PS2 so more people will get around to dusting theirs off?
If more developers pull stunts like this off without a dent hopefully it'll show bigger studios that it's worth investing more money into. Isn't is also erally hard to port stuff over to the Playstations than the xboxs or nintendos?

Why Is This on the Wii? is really pretty easy to explain. Similar production costs with a huge fanbase of all kinds and a total lack of games like this one, whereas the PS2 has quite a few to choose from.
I didn't really like Valhalla Knights 1 much, but I never tried 2. Maybe I'll try this out.
COD:MW2 is not gonna be on the Wii. Infinity Ward isn't gonna waste their time on that. Even though they will make a little bit more money, they will have to sacrifice valuable time and effort that could be put into the PS3, PC, and 360 versions. So unless Activision gets a different developer to make MW2 for the Wii, it won't happen.
@lenandude: I did not ask if IW was going to port it. I asked if the brand would appear on the Wii. Just as CoD:WaW, Guitar Hero and Transformers 2 all did. You think Activision is going to skip the Wii audience on a major franchise release?
@Stephen Totilo: Yeah, they will. I'm guessing that if there is a wii port done by whomever, they're probably going to have to use a different engine to do it. That will be expensive. Games like Transformers and Guitar hero don't really need graphical powerhouse engines. Furthermore, games like MadWorld show that hardcore games have extreme niche markets, ie.. unprofitable. WaW may have sold a million copies, but it was a horrid game that did not compare well to its xbox 360 counterpart. But who knows? Bobby Kotick is completely insane and he has the power to do whatever he wants. I just think it is a real longshot, and that nintendo would have said something at E3.
@brainboy77: Why not use the engine that already exists from CoD: World at War?
Personally, I think Activision is worried that Wii owners are not going to be as enthusiastic in picking up shooters every year. So, they are likely just riding off of residual sales of WaW while allowing for Treyarch to have next year's version ready by November.
@Stephen Totilo: I think if they were going to release MW2 for Wii they would already have announced a port of MW1. Without that, MW2 would stick out like a sore thumb.
"Unlike any other product on the Wii, this game forgoes slow-paced story elements to offer immediate gratification with scare after scare."
Which more than likely means that, after the first 15 minutes, the game won't be scary at all. Tension needs to be built and scares need to be earned. Then again, they say it's a haunted house simulator, so "scare after scare" sounds about right, as haunted houses tend to forgo the suspense and lay heavy on the buzzers, cheap looking skeletons and flashing lights.
