But some PS3 owners are reporting fresh problems.

One alleged issue making the rounds is game related, with some users complaining of "freezing" copies of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, with the game reportedly locking up mid-play and requiring a restart of the system. Those reports don't appear to be widespread, but are popping up at the official PlayStation.com forums.

Another issue, again not widespread but making the rounds at Sony's official forums, is with the PlayStation 3's DualShock controller itself. Some customers are reporting that both first and third party gamepads have stopped working, by their estimate as of the most recent firmware update.

While noteworthy, it's not that uncommon for this sort of thing to pop up every time the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 get a system update—and it's not always related to said update. We've received only a handful of tips complaining of problems with Uncharted. And for the record, some of us at Kotaku have DualShock 3s that appear to be working just fine, thank you.

We reached out to Sony to get comment on the matter this morning, but haven't heard back yet about the status of these two items.

<![CDATA[Amazon Lops Off Fifty From Uncharted's PS3 Bundle]]> Sony may not have an official PlayStation 3 price cut on the books, but indications that the console is due to get cheaper this year increase by one more. Amazon has recently cut the price of the priciest PS3 bundle.

Evidence of an impending PlayStation 3 price drop? Not necessarily. But the availability of some PS3 models is on the decline, while incentives to clear out older stock increase. At the very least, its a better deal on a PlayStation 3 bundle that's due to become a bit less valued, as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is just a few months out.

<![CDATA[Uncharted Movie Incoming]]> Everyone's favorite guy in a blue jeans, Nathan Drake, is the latest video game looking set for a big screen version.

Columbia Pictures is working on a movie adaptation of the million-selling-game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The flick is being penned by Kyle Ward, who is writing the film version of Kane & Lynch starring Bruce Willis and who has been hired to scribe Hitman 2 for 20th Century Fox.

The Uncharted movie is being produced by Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner. No word on who is in talks to helm or star in the picture.

<![CDATA[Meet Mr. Video Game Voiceover]]> This is an interview with Mr. Nolan North. His name probably won't ring a bell, and that's a real tragedy, because as soon as you hear him open his mouth, you'll know exactly who he is.

You'll know he's Nathan Drake. You'll know he's the Prince of Persia. As the scrawny kid from Assassin's Creed, as Sgt. Forge from Halo Wars and Vossler from Final Fantasy XII.

Basically, you'll know him as one of, if not the most prolific and recognisable voice actors working in gaming. And now, you'll actually know who he is, instead of saying "oh, this guy sounds like Nathan Drake" all the time.

<![CDATA[Uncharted PS3 Bundle: The Box Art]]> Hear that chime? It's the box art clock. And it just struck box art o'clock. On offer today is the art for the Uncharted PS3 bundle, which will see one of the console's finest titles stuffed in with a 160GB PS3, a DualShock 3 and a voucher for PSN title PAIN. It'll be out next month, will cost you $500, and if you like fun and think you'll be downloading movies on the PS3, there are plenty worse ways to be introduced to the console.

<![CDATA[First Uncharted Movie Details]]> In case you missed it, our own Mr. Hollywood, John Gaudiosi, ran an excellent feature this morning on the Avrads, and their plans to start making video game movies that don't suck. If you haven't read it, it's good stuff, go read it. If only because Avrad gives the first details on the Uncharted movie project, which until now had only been hinted at.

When it comes to the big screen adventure, Arad said the plan is to mix things up a little bit. In the game, the action moves very quickly to the island, but the film will open things up a bit and add some depth before the island adventure.

So, more talking, more sexual tension, less gunplay. Avrad also stresses that Nathan Drake is not just another Indiana Jones clone, saying "Indiana Jones was always a good guy and he relentlessly did the right thing. Drake is a guy who's being hauled over to virtue throughout the game". The story should at least make for a half-decent popcorn flick, but wasn't the main appeal of the game the fact it already felt like a movie?

<![CDATA[ Just a quick note. We updated our post from...]]> Just a quick note. We updated our post from earlier, but it bears separate mentioning. The patch to unlock trophy support for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on the PlayStation 3 is now available for all to download and enjoy, except of course those PS3 owners who never picked up the game, who are officially missing out on a damn fine game.

<![CDATA[PAL Regions Get Uncharted Trophy Patch]]> The promised 1.01 patch for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has hit the decidedly charted PAL regions of the world, unlocking PlayStation 3 trophy support for one of the console's greatest titles. The patch, which weighs in at a modest 13 megs, unlocks 47 trophies that coincide with the achievements already built into the game, along with a 48th platinum trophy for unlocking all of the other trophies. Already unlocked all of the game's achievements? Well start a new game and unlock them again, as they won't be applied retroactively due to cheating concerns.

Right now the patch is only showing up in PAL territories, though we're certain a North American release can't be too far behind. AHA! Err, UPDATE: Now available in the states!

<![CDATA[Uncharted's Trophies Numbered, Explained]]> Want the skinny on all of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune's PlayStation Trophies? All 48 of them? I do. Mostly because I'll be quite comfortable restarting the game in order to secure them, having not yet beat Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 adventure. Arne Meyer at Naughty Dog spills the beans on all the virtual prizes one can secure in the game, just as soon as that patch arrives. Oh, there aren't details details, more like a high level briefing.

Fortunately, it sounds like some of them are related to shooting people in the face, something I excel at in Uncharted. However, we've been hearing rumors that if you can get Nathan Drake's shirt fully tucked in, it unlocks, like, twenty nude codes. We're confirming.

<![CDATA[Uncharted Next Game To Receive Trophy Support]]> Because Sony's trophy system is only being implemented now, a bunch of games have already been released that don't make use of the feature. Meaning developers will need to go back and bolt on trophy support in their own time. So when 2.40 becomes available, which games will have them, and which ones won't? While Sony released a preliminary list of titles that will be the first to implement trophies the other day, they've since added one more: our 2007 NQGOTY, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, which "will also receive a patch at some point in the foreseeable future".

<![CDATA[Uncharted: People Killing, OK, Animal Killing, Not OK]]> In an interview with SCEE blog Three Speech, Naughty Dog's Evan Wells has been answering a bunch of questions sent in by Three Speech "readers". Most are fairly run-of-the-mill, but one's pretty interesting, if only from a cultural standpoint. The question was, basically, why can't I shoot the fish in the game? The answer:

We had hit reactions and even some death animations for the wildlife in the game but we chose to remove it. It was flagged as a potential issue by the ESRB and it seemed like a small concession to make in order to maintain our "Teen" rating. It may have also affected the rating in Europe.
So...killing hundreds and hundreds of human beings with guns and explosives and your bare hands is totally cool, but shooting some fish in a river can jeopardise a "teen" rating? What a strange and hilarious world we live in.

<![CDATA[Are We Going To Get An Uncharted Movie?]]> A "source" speaking with Joystiq seems to think so. According to this source - who is "close to the deal" - developers Naughty Dog have already agreed to option the rights to a movie based on their 2007 hit (and our 2007 NQGOTY), with Atlas Entertainment reported to be behind the project. Who are Atlas? They're a production company who helped put Twelve Monkeys and Three Kings together, so relax, will you?

<![CDATA[How Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Makes Home Really, Really Cool]]> While Resistance: Fall of Man's integration with Home should have bonus content fans excited, old school run-and-gun shooter fans should be pretty pumped about what they may be getting with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune's contribution. We hear that the Home portal for Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 adventure will follow in Resistance's footsteps, allowing Home avatars to explore the game's levels without the threat of being shot at, a nice feature.

But it's the Uncharted mini-game that has us far more pumped.

According to our sources, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune comes to Home armed with a side-scrolling 2D arcade game, described to us as reminiscent of both Contra and Out Of This World. Sounds kind of like Capcom's 2D remake of Bionic Commando in its execution, full of enemies and exploding barrels to shoot.

Sony is apparently pitching features like these to developers to extend the lives of their titles, using strong first and second party development showcases to prove that Home can effectively market outside of traditional means. We hope they take them up on their offer, because we're definitely excited about the prospects.

<![CDATA[Zero Punctuation Takes On Uncharted: Drake's Fortune]]>

This week, in between some scathing political commentary, Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw reviews Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for the PS3. Does he like it? Of course not. Can you imagine his reviews happy? We can only pray that divine intervention keeps both love and ecstasy from Yahtzee's grasp, lest we lose Zero Punctuation forever.

Quote of the week: "Saying that an action game's got a vehicle section these days carries about as much weight as saying that it comes in a box."

<![CDATA[What Are You Playing This Weekend?]]> I'll be playing a very realistic driving in a matter of hours, a sort of Need For Speed Most Wanted recreating using a rented Chevy Impala controller. It should be very, very exciting following the blue line from Vegas to LA. When I finally get home, expect me to unwind with a few rounds of Team Fortress 2, a title I've been chatting about a lot with colleagues and developers and DICE. Demos for Patapon and God of War: Chains of Olympus were stashed in the DICE schwag bag, so I'll be giving those a spin, too. Yeah, I'm late to the party. So what?

Enough reading of this drivel. Make with the comments about your weekend gaming plans, pronto. Anyone going to grab a copy of Professor Layton this Sunday?

<![CDATA[New PS3 Bundle Coming To Australia]]> While this has nothing to do with a larger hard drive, Sony will be offering a new bundle in Australia that includes a 40GB PS3, second Sixaxis controller and one of the following games: Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction or NBA 08 all for $799.95. Wow, that's looking a LOT better than the original $1000 PS3 launch price that Luke had to put up with.

<![CDATA[The Rocky's Second Annual Golden Crecentes]]> game4gold.JPG

First a thing about the name: I didn't pick it. I think it's hilarious, but I'd never name an award after myself, it's obnoxious... and quite funny. Which is what I think the Rocky was going for. There are quite a few closet smart-asses over there. :)

So my annual pick for best video game ran in the Rocky Mountain News today and I picked Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as the overall winner. The game beat out The Orange Box, Bioshock, Super Mario Galaxy and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Here's why I decided to pick a war-time first-person shooter sequel over the splendor of a dystopian society, amazing character interaction of Uncharted and innovative design of Galaxy and Orange Box:

This solid first-person shooter for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 may not be as innovative as The Orange Box and Super Mario Galaxy. It may not deliver an awe-inspiring glimpse at an eschewed philosophy like BioShock or create the sort of sizzling character interaction found in Uncharted, but, hands down, it is the most thoroughly entertaining video game of the past year.

The single-player story is captivating, set in a present-day Middle East and parts of Russia and comes at the player in a mix of sweeping cinematic set pieces and smart pacing that can easily glue the audience to the game for the entire six- to eight-hour experience.

It's a game that has the sorts of moments usually found only in film, hiding these startling revelations in gamers' blind spots. People you come to care about die. You die, and not in the sort of plastic, ephemeral death found in video games. These deaths are permanent and, at times, evocative.

A deep, seemingly limitless online multiplayer experience also adds quite a bit of life to the title. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare may seem like more of the same, but this title is the realization of a rewarding franchise meeting its complete potential.

Hit the link to check out my winners for the rest of the categories, including a selection of "hot flashes" I managed to sneak into the awards. Feel free to bash me here for not choosing (your selection here) for best (your category here).

Ps. I didn't write the awards' intro, that's one of those smart-asses I was talking about.

<![CDATA[Tim Schafer Mystified By Uncharted's Shirt Tech]]> Double Fine Productions founder and funny man Tim Schafer isn't so much a fan of Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune as he is the next-gen thermal shirt that protagonist Nathan Drake wears throughout. The Psychonauts creator compares the PlayStation 3 title's heretofore ignored technological marvel that is a casually dirty, half-tucked shirt to "an unfinished symphony." He heaps praise upon the adventure game's clothing choices and lauds a poly-cotton top that speaks volumes about its wearer.

He writes of Drake's shirt "Jet skiing, swimming, and almost kissing—nothing can dislodge or fully tuck Drake's half-casual shirt. It is draped in a purgatory state, half in, half out, never completely free." A bold and fascinating analysis from a visionary mind that anyone who has even a passing interest in video game fashion should read. Compelling stuff.

<![CDATA[Naughty Dog On PS3 In 3 Years]]> Naughty Dog is surveying the land with its chest stuck out, planning its worldwide conquest following the critically solid launch of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Where will things be in three years, someone asks (a child, maybe). Naughty Dog inhales deeply and ponders the questions. Somewhere off in the distance, wind chimes can be heard.

..., it's anybody's guess. At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2.
And then, as quickly as it came, Naughty Dog disappears into the horizon.

<![CDATA[What Are You Playing This Weekend?]]> Me? I'm playing Advance Wars: Days of Ruin and I couldn't be happier to have the opportunity. In fact, I'm playing it right now. I swear. It's paused. Okay, that's a lie. I'm actually taking a break from the soon to be released strategy game while posting from an incredibly pretentious, over-priced coffee shop with a smarmy name. But, I promise, once all this unfortunate blogging is done, it's back to the darker, dust filled world of Days of Ruin for me. I'm also planning for a bit of Omega Five finishing and, apparently, a go at Undertow. Good times.
