Ten Tricks for your Xbox 360

Some of these sound almost gratuitous — connect to two screens? Neah, never had a need for that. But TechRadar compiled a list of 10 tricks/hacks for you to extract more functionality out of your 360. Probably the most useful is No. 4 — how to play Xbox 360 games online for free, without any Live account at all. It involves setting up a free app that tricks the console into thinking the Internet is a LAN. It's said to work, with some limitations. There's also a hack that lets you use any HDMI cable you want, with a little work.

There are also workarounds to allow you to play ~~your porn~~ any media file or video on the console. But the glitch (not really a hack) that allows you to play your own music in Xbox original games is kind of pointless. And you can connect your console to a wireless network without buying the overpriced WiFi bridge — you just have to dedicate a laptop to it, and last I checked, they usually cost a little more ... Either way, if you're bored and want to make your 360 roll over, beg, eat a doggie biscuit off your nose, it's something to bookmark.

Ah! The animated gif. Somehow, it remains far more charming than its evolutionary successor, the embedded video. Would this amazing Super Mario Bros. ninja trick be nearly as cool if it had sound, or wasn't in widescreen, but instead entombed in the blurry, blocky sarcophagus of a 400x300 YouTube video?

We found this via Destructoid, a site we're linking so much lately we should probably just set up an RSS scraper. It comes from a guide full of such gifs. A charming resource on Mario oriented tricks you will never, ever, ever be good enough to do. Or at least I won't — after 20+ years, I still can't manage that infinite 1UPs trick on World 3.

Unlocking a Dalmation and other Nintendogs Tricks

1Up has a wonderfully detailed Strategy Guide for Nintendogs up on their site. The guide includes training tips, daily care and how to do well in the different competitions. There's even a list of rare items you can find while walking various dogs around the neighborhood.

I've been told you can unlock a Dalmatian by finding a fire helmet on a walk near the upper, outer edge of the neighborhood. Here's 1Up's list of hidden goodies, check their site for the full details:
