Thank goodness. We have three TVs in our living room (my house is the place to be for Saturday night fighting games) and only one is HD. The other two are old CRTs and it's freakin impossible to read anything on SF, Blaz, Tekken, Fallout, etc.
I know HDTVs are sexy and they're the next big thing, but shame on game companies for failing to realize that a good portion of their market is still playing on standard definition televisions. #triace
Problem is - most developers have TVs right next to their computer. It might not sound like a big deal to you, but huge studios go through the entire development cycle, including bringing in outside testers, without having anybody look at their game from more then 3 feet away.
More games need this. I have an HDTV so it doesn't bother me but I always feel my friends pain as they try to play a game on an SDTV. It's absurd, nothing is remotely legible.
This and a tool to resize the image to compensate for overscan should be a must in all games. #triace
Why more games allow you to set font sizes, I won't understand. It makes sense for games where the text is pre-rendered, but for any game that saves it as actual text, it can't be that challenging. #triace
@imaria: you don't understand why games allow you to set font sizes? or do you not understand why more games will NOT allow you to set font sizes? your sentence is a strange one. #triace
@Inkmonkey: ditto. i was playing "Folklore" and struggling to follow the story. i finally threw my hands up in disgust, busted out the 'ol credit card and gave in... #triace
I appreciate that text doesn't have to be gigantic anymore, like PS2 era platformers that only displayed something like a sentence at a time, but some developers have really overestimated the capabilities of HDTVs and my eyes. Anyone played The Deadliest Catch? (Don't) I had to get up from the couch and stand about a foot away from the TV to read anything there. Dead Rising too, christ. So yeah, I definitely welcome a compromise.
Yes, been waiting for this game, and hoping for it to be successful!
Sega has been on a roll recently with their published games. Hope this one is good too:) #triace
@excel_excel: I don't think it would work for every game; but I see no possible reason for that to be included with this.
I may change my mind if I read something that says the boss battles are just staggeringly difficult however. As long as I get a feeling of "Wow, that was a challenge." It's getting rarer these days. #triace
@Artibeus: I don't see a reason why it should not be included. Sometimes, you don't want to play through a goddamn boss intro cutscene when you just died 3 times and yeah you've seen it.
Pfffftt. SEGA you're just wasting you time.
Who cares about those SD TV users since all they're doing is hindering the rest of us HD users from a greater experience, so I say fuc-
Reminds me of when I had to play the last battle in Tales of Vesperia on a regular TV after playing everything before that point on an HDTV. I was amazed how much of a difference there was and that the text was pretty much illegible. #triace
@Bastille: Really? I felt Tales of Vesperia was better about it than most games. Granted, I never played it on an actual SDTV (just on my computer, which is about as good technically), but the text is at least large, which is more than can be said for, say, Mass Effect. #triace

One would think, as the end-user experience is the real concern, that this would be accounted for. #triace

I liked the sense of accomplishment I got from winning a boss battle after dying so much.
I liked how the game forced you into a defensive mindset.
I wish game devs would take note. #triace

The point is, I miss having a good challenge. Demon's Souls gave me one. Now I hunger for more. #triace

Are they assuming if you have an HDTV, it must be some 120 inches?
I have a small HDTV, and small text is a bitch to read. #triace
