While the video doesn't quite make me want to play the sequel to Army of Two, it kind of makes me want to watch someone else playing. I doubt that's the message marketing was trying to get across, but there you go.

<![CDATA[Dante's Inferno: The Game: The Anime: The Trailer]]> What do Ghost in the Shell, Ergo Proxy, Blood the Last Vampire, and Samurai Champloo have to do with EA's Dante's Inferno? This trailer, for starters.

The Dante's Inferno animated feature taps the work of the creative teams behind those anime greats to bring EA's vision of the original epic poem. I like the look of what they've come up with so far, but I think there needs to be a bit more screaming of the name Beatrice before I can really take it seriously.

<![CDATA[First Skate 3 Trailer And Screens]]> To go along with the AJ's preview, here's the first batch of screens for Skate 3, along with a trailer featuring a horribly edited version of Steel Panther's "Eyes of a Panther."

The actual lyrics for the "Eyes of a Panther" chorus are "She's got the eyes of a panther - She's got lips like Satan - She's got the eyes of a panther - And you'll soon be matin'." It loses something when you strip out Satan and matin', but I suppose there are rules you need to follow when making an official video game trailer.

<![CDATA[So How Many Boss Fights Will Prince of Persia Have?]]> Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner says that one of the first things lost in translation from video game to film is gameplay. But the Prince of Persia film hopes to dodge that bullet with its action/adventure genre label.

You can see from the trailer just how much of that "action/adventure" thrust comes from what look like platforming puzzles writ large with Jake Gyllenhaal. Those of you that played the Sands of Time games, though, will be expecting a lot more than just jumping around. You want to see time-rewinding and sand monsters, don't you?

Well, too bad, says Mechner. To get the whole time-rewinding mechanic into the movie, some things had to be changed or cut completely.

"In the movie, the [Dagger of Time]'s powers are much more limited," he said. If they'd left it the same, after all, the Prince would be omnipotent and the plot would get mighty boring.

So instead, there will be "consequences" for using the Dagger and there won't be sand monsters Jake Gyllenhaal fights to recharge it.

Sadly, Mechner wouldn't say what kind of, with whom there would be, or how many "boss fights" we could expect to see in the film. But he did say that producer Jerry Bruckheimer — that master of big, big action/adventure movies — knows what he's doing when it comes to creating an experience that everybody including non-gamers will be into. And because it's set in a sort of sub-genre of "1001 Arabian Nights" action/adventure, Prince of Persia the movie will probably go a long way toward appealing to the Pirates of the Caribbean-starved masses.

If only we could count on it to unseat Twilight. Alas, I'm not seeing much chemistry between Gemma Arterton and Jake Gyllenhaal in the trailer's banter snippets.

What do you make of the trailer?

P.S. No, Mechner didn't say anything about film sequels. However, he did say Ubisoft has something big planned to announce in conjunction with the film's marketing as the release date draws nearer. Dare we hope for a video game sequel?

<![CDATA[Leaked Left 4 Dead 2 Trailer Full Of Joy, Gore]]> Still waiting to see the latest Left 4 Dead 2 cinematic trailer? Wait, my ass, 'cause this pre-rendered introduction to the people, places and infected things of Valve's sequel has "leaked" a bit early.

Don't expect to see too much new here, but at least you'll get a peek at portions of the "Hard Rain" and "Dead Center" campaigns, also previously leaked. While poring it over, there's only one potential new addition, as trucker hat enthusiast Ellis has his shotgun knocked away by one of the infected, just before getting tongue lashed by a Smoker — which, by the way, looks to be cosmetically unchanged from his northern buddies. Not necessarily a new gameplay facet, but it would be an interesting one...

This montage of pre-rendered stuff makes it appear that we'll be treated to more than just an opening cinematic, as in the original Left 4 Dead, with the second possibly getting cut scenes before each chapter.

Of course, things can change and there may be nothing more to this that cinematic flair, but ... I'll stop typing. Just watch the clip. Again and again and again.

Thanks for the heads up, Breadtruck!

<![CDATA[Back to the Gallows with Assassin's Creed II]]> The Tokyo Game Show trailer for Assassin's Creed II divulges Ezio's motivation - namely revenge - in a nicely edited homage to the original Assassin's Creed trailer, before dissolving into an intense, bloody montage featuring some brief gameplay.

It's very well shot and builds to a nice climax with Da Vinci's glider launching from the rooftops of Venice. Enjoy.

<![CDATA[CrimeCraft: Blow Stuff Up And Be Trendy While Doing It]]> CrimeCraft developer Vogster Entertainment is allowing its players to dress fashionably thanks to a partnership with Atticus Clothing, according to a press release, new screens, and a trailer released recently.

According to the press release, "Gamers will be able to choose from real-world Atticus designs when customizing their characters, or outfitting their entire gang in CrimeCraft."

Certain Atticus branded shirts will be restricted to pre-orders, according to the press release and the game's website. Therefore, if you want your gang to be the most stylish bunch of criminals in Vogster's persistent online shooter, pre-ordering may be the way to go.

<![CDATA[Bayonetta's First Climax As Explained By Hideki Kamiya]]> The most recent trailer for PlatinumGames Bayonetta comes and goes in a mere 90-seconds, an attention-stealing high speed montage of gameplay and cut scenes. Hardly enough time to appreciate its subtly and secrets.

That's why Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya spends more than 23 minutes explaining the trailer in nitty-gritty detail. In yet another example of the developer "getting it," Kamiya and company explore the "First Climax" trailer scene by scene by way of director commentary—not something we typically see for a video game promo clip, but something I hope we'll see more of.

In it, Kamiya explains almost everything you'd want to know about the star of Bayonetta, including details on her arsenal of weapons, the two things she'll never strip herself of, and just what role lollipops will play in the game. You'll also be given a dose of the curious reluctance of Japanese developers to reveal the names of almost anyone or anything.

Kamiya obviously expounds on actual gameplay and story details, much of which we haven't been privy to by way of official Sega channels thus far. That includes things like the customization of Bayonetta's weapons load out and the option to switch between two sets of weapon set ups on the fly. Neat!

If you have the time and the Bayonetta enthusiasm, it's highly recommended.

<![CDATA[Red Dead Redemption Trailer Now Available To Everyone]]> It's May 7th, and Rockstar has graciously released the first trailer for Red Dead Redemption to everyone who didn't already get it two days ago.

IGN was allowed to post the Red Dead Redemption trailer a few days early, which is a common sort of occurance but still makes Rockstar's releasing the trailer today a great deal less exciting. Once something hits the internet, it belongs to the internet. Still, early posting doesn't make the trailer any less impressive, especially considering it's composed entirely of actual gameplay footage, so we figured we post it for the five or six of you who didn't catch it via one of the many different places it has appeared between then and now.

<![CDATA[Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Dark Lord Trailer Is Not Dark]]> Square Enix's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Dark Lord is coming to WiiWare, the sequel to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King. It's surprisingly pink.

While My Life As A Dark Lord may imply that players will delve into the dark heart of the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles universe, the WiiWare entry actually puts Mira, the two-toned offspring of the original's protagonist. And it's cuuuuuuuute! Looks like a journey into the heart of pinkness, based on the Japanese debut trailer.

Announced at this year's Game Developers Conference, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Dark Lord is expected to ship later this year.

<![CDATA[Dark Void: Dogfighting Without the Planes]]>
Dark Void promises to deliver the best of on-foot combat and Crimson Skies dog fights in a world of jet packs and UFOs.

Air Tight Games, a studio made up of the core team behind Xbox' Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, played through a chunk of the game for us last week. Showing a level about halfway through Dark Void.

In it the lead character, Will, already has his flight helmet and jet pack. The level opens as he zips into a canyon that has been fortified with an alien ship of sorts. UFOs fly around blasting at him as he tries to take down a number of mounted guns.

After spending a few minutes pinging the massive guns with his own weapon, Will flips over, flying straight at a UFO. A quick button push and he's standing on the floating disk, trying to pull up some of the protective metal armor. This skyjacking amounts to quick mini-game of avoiding gun fire while trying to disable the ship.

When he succeeds, a robot of sorts stands up and Will boots it from the craft, taking control of the UFO. The developers point out, rather enigmatically, that the game has no robots, only vehicles.

Using the ships heavier guns and explosive fire, Will makes short work of the guns.

After spending the entire opening sequence in flying combat it is a little bewildering to see Will flying straight for a platform filled with barricades and enemies. As he approaches the developer cuts his jet pack and Will lands on his feet, quickly running to cover.

The game seems to shift to a straight-up, though admirably solid shooter. Will ducks in and out of cover as he takes down his enemies.

After working his way inside the building, mostly through classic shooter strategy, Will is faced with an interesting new dilemma: He needs to work his way straight up through a tunnel of slowly turning platforms. One option is to aim carefully, hit the gas on your jet pack and hope for the best. This often results in a flattened body. Another approach is to use vertical cover.

To use vertical cover, the developer has Will look up and then presses the cover button when one of those platforms rotate to directly above him. Will hops into the air and grabs the platform, clinging to its underside as the view suddenly shifts making it appear you are looking down a hallway, rather than up a tunnel.

Will can then scramble back and forth on this shelf of metal, ducking behind it as he fires, or he can climb on top of it resetting the view until he jumps up to the next shelf. It's disorienting, but it appears to work.

After the demo, the developers said that currently their plans are for the game to be single player only but that if "people clamber at the gates for multiplayer jetpack goodness" they will look into it.

Dark Void hasn't yet been dated, but is in development for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

<![CDATA[Damnation Trailer Proves It Really IS Steampunk]]> After my last look at Damnation, I wasn't totally convinced that Damnation was really a Steampunk game on account of there being no zeppelins or frilly Victorian dresses.

This new trailer addresses my concerns with Art Director Adam Diller discussing why the game really is Steampunk. He does admit that Damnation creators had to do a bit of tailoring to the genre to get it to fit the game (which is why there are no frilly Victorian dresses). But they gain Steampunk street cred by sticking in what looks like a zeppelin.

Just so we're all on the same page about what Steampunk is supposed to be, let's use this checklist ganked from the blog of an author whom I've never heard of and see how Damnation stacks up:

Steam-powered machines — Check
Goggles — If by "goggles" you mean "cowboy hats," check
A resident tinkerer/mad scientist — Check
Totalitarian authority to be overthrown or otherwise subverted — Check
Victorian sensibilities — Fail; just look at that chick's outfit... it's not even sensible, let alone Victorian.

<![CDATA[Muramasa: The Demon Blade Still This Year's Prettiest, Most Enticing Wii Game]]> VanillaWare's gorgeous looking Muramasa: The Demon Blade makes up for a lack of polygon pushing power by going 2D, resulting in probably the most visually exciting Wii game we've seen yet.

And that's not just because Muramasa: The Demon Blade is so loaded with more T&A than most Wii games we've seen—OK, maybe not as much as OneeChanbara—but it's certainly not lacking in surprisingly stacked character designs. We even hear there's a rather steamy hot springs scene in the game, something we don't see much of on the console. Having already enjoyed one of the developer's recent efforts, Odin Sphere on the PlayStation 2, we're anticipating an easy pre-order decision.

The game, due for a release by Marvelous Entertainment in Japan next week, thankfully already has a North American publisher in XSEED. You'll have to settle for the Japanese language trailer for now. But soak it in anyway.

<![CDATA[New Behemoth Game's an Operatic Platformer]]> OK, so maybe, just maybe, this won't be the game's official soundtrack, but it certainly will be the game's official gameplay.

The trailer shows that the new game from The Behemoth, makers of Castle Crashers, appears to be a cooperative platformer.

Due out in 2010, the title, price, platform or details beyond this trailer remain unknown. Whatever it turns out to be, it does look fun. One request though, keep that soundtrack. We need more opera in video games.
