I dunno if that'd be a good idea, considering the main creative mind behind the series isn't with them anymore. =/
I mean, I'd love a new Kain game, but without Amy Hennig working on the game (she's working on the Uncharted series now) the story wouldn't be progressing the way the original team had intended. It might feel fake or cheap. I dunno.
"SQEX has given the board of Eidos assurances that, following closing of the Offer, the existing employment rights, including pension rights, of the management and employees of Eidos will be fully safeguarded."
But the funny things is, there is no mention of existing employment responsibilities.
How hilarious would it be if this goes through, and Square just ends up using Eidos as a port house to develop the 360 version of FF13, just like they did with the PC version of FFVII?
I just can't see Square doing anything with Eidos' franchises, especially considering how badly the company has floundered in recent years.
Maybe a Hitman: Vincent Valentine game is in order?
@Archaotic: Ha! Better get in those fanboy jabs while you can. After the sales figures for the next FF are in for the 360 and PS3, it might turn out that they'd more likely use a port house for getting their 360 games to the PS3.
Except that Eidos DID help Square port FFVII and VIII to the PC. It's not a stretch to think that Square's primary FFXIII team is already too busy, y'know, making the game to worry about porting it. And considering the Kingdom Hearts team is working on Versus, KH for PSP and Parasite Eve 3, most of Square's teams are occupied at the time. Thinking Square might be asking for some outside help from a developer that's actually experienced with programming for 360 is not a fanboy statement, it's a legitimate thought.
@Archaotic: I doubt they'd have one company port just one version but if they do I doubt it'd really effect the quality in anyway and would just speed up the process which would be cool.
I think Square knows they can't spend a full year porting the game and localizing it at the same time. That's why I wouldn't be surprised to see them go for some outside help.
Even if they don't just toss the game over to Eidos to port, they might use Eidos' 360 experience to help with the process. I think that's a wholly sensible theory, no?
@Archaotic: Yeah I agree with you really. I wasn't concentrating much when I replied but yeah it makes sense. I don't believe they'd merge with eidos and not use there experience at all when the project is taking so long either.
Exactly. Eidos has 360 experience. The core Square Enix teams, not so much, and Square cannot afford a shoddy port of their biggest game on the HD consoles. The best thing to do is to partner with a Western studio and have them help out. If that happens, we might actually see the game out before Christmas 2010.
@Archaotic: So did people forget that Square already said that they are moving FFXIII to a multiplatform engine on the PC (forgot what it was called, but Kotaku covered it, it should be similar to the MT Framework Capcom has)? If anything, they aren't really porting from PS3 to 360, but porting from PC to 360.
You're partly right. The Crystal Tools engine is "multiplatform", but the game is still being developed for PS3 first so it can be released in Japan this year. It's not like they're developing a fully playable PC version of the game, then Ctrl-Ving it into "PS3" and "360" directories. Porting will take time, and Square has very little 360 experience.

Considering what happened in Defiance...I don't think that's really possible.

Looks like it will be a "port house" like Raven Software used to be.
