Neither? Clearly, there's a lot of hate here for the man, which tends to suggest that there'd be a lot of hate for whatever game he was more directly involved in. But I think that a lot of the hate is directed at him personally, rather than him professionally, so I wouldn't be surprised if in the actual execution, it wouldn't be so bad.
Agreed. He took an actor like Michael Keaton and turned him into a believable superhero. I don't see how anyone could NOT like the first 2 Batman movies (with Keaton as Batman) I like them better than the latest 2 Batman movies. Christian Bale's "Toughman Voice" sounds more annoying than dark and intimidating... And "The Dark Night" seemed like it had a good beginning and middle, but the end just kept throwing crap after crap at you. It should have ended much sooner than it did.
@Jaems: Oh would you just let Planet of the Apes die already! ;)
Seriously tho, he has hits and misses but he's made some truly fantastic movies in his time and thus it isn't fair to call him a terrible director.
He'd make an awesome Bioshock movie. With Johnny Depp as the lead, Dr. Tenenbaum done by Helena Bonham Carter, Albert Finney as the Big Daddies and the Little Sisters done by Helen Bonham Carter.
All the other roles could also be done by Bonham Carter.
I think it's important because it shows that major movie studios and IP holders are starting to give slightly more of a damn what sort of games they churn out. Hell, in some cases the games are even beating out the movies (X-Men: Wolverine, Chronicles of Riddick, etc).
So, yeah, I think it's important for someone with as much cultural significance as Tim Burton to say he gives a rat's behind about the game being based on his Alice flick.
Well, considering that usually "game based on movie" is a bad thing per se, maybe this change of pace might be for the best.
The less "material" the game developer has, maybe the more they try to compensate on gameplay. Hopefully.
I'm left wondering what American McGee thinks about all this. Last time I heard, he was developing a sequel to Alice, as well as a possible movie adaptation for the first game. Not sure what, if any impact Tim Burton's ventures will have on McGee's projects. Would be nice to have one medium-dark and one very dark, very gothic adaptations on the market at once, to me; just hope developers do not feel otherwise.
@SLane3582: having two Gothy games concerning the same subject matter out at the same time is just another indication of how gaming is now on par with Hollywood.
That Grim Fandango on the right hand side totally tricked me. I posted a big chunk of excitement, then noticed that I was 3 years too late for that article, and promptly relegated myself to a corner with my dunce cap on.
What does he mean by, you know, "obviously"?
I don't like the looks of the new Alice movie, I'll be sticking to the classic Disney animated one, thank you. The new one is too Tim Burton for my taste.
@MasterNinja: I don't even think Tim Burton knows what Tim Burton is trying to say.
I lost all respect for him when I watched Planet of the Apes with his commentary track. If you've never heard that track on the DVD, listen to it. ...not a single thing throughout the entire track makes any sense. He'll start a thought, and in the middle of it go onto something else entirely, and then in the middle of that thought he'll go onto something else - just this endless chain reaction of half baked sentences for the entire movie.
Zero focus. He cannot think straight.
