I remember years ago a girl I was dating broke up with me, and I wasn't all that sad about it cause I could spend more time playing games that I wanted to play at the time... lol :P
Now that I think about it, I haven't bought a single EA product this year except a clearance copy of Rock Band 2 at Target for $15.
Don't worry, EA. You'll be getting $60 from me when Brutal Legend comes out.
I was kinda hoping The Sims 3 would have poor sales.
EA needs to learn that selling half a game and packaging the rest of it as expensive purchased downloads is...just not cool. Though I'm sure there will be the inevitable stream of 2 expansions per year...
@Cervidanti: Yeah, I also hoped for the game to not sell so they would've actually tried to innovate. I was pissed that they took out all the cool stuff in Sims 1 when the second came out just so they would repackage those same expansion pack ideas for The Sims 2. Now they're doing it again for the Sims 3 and all the casual girl gamers are eating it up.
@RockyRan: A lot of the stuff in The Sims 3 is supposedly Sims 2 stuff, only...worse, somehow. Tables are tables from th eprevious game, for example, and the feraking glasses are octagons instead of actual cylinders.
It's upsetting that this has what the series has come to. No doubt they'll take simple concepts they could've included in the initial release and stretch them into expansions...I mean, the game comes with, what, 8 hairstyles?
This is worse than Pokemon and the forced obsolescence nintendo has decided to stick to.
@Cervidanti: I'm a bit holding off on judgment until an expansion or two. I'm willing to cut a little slack on the principle that they had to cut back on a few things to advance a lot others. But just a little slack. If the EPs don't pull it all together, or if everything falls onto online store, then I'll be upset.
So, did they lose money, or did they just not make as much money as last year?
Because if they didn't make as much money, "losing" money sounds a bit more extreme than the situation actually is. I guess if they need those additional profits to keep running as normal it could be a problem, but I doubt they usually expect to make that much money at this time of year anyways.
It's certainly far from awful IMO and provides a varied enough workout not to become boring. (Listening to your own music is almost a requisite, however, because the in-game tracks are the worst kind of generic crap you can imagine.)
Sure, Active won't make me give up biking or running (especially now that I live in an area where I don't have to dodge old ladies and inhale car fumes), but it's a good way to mix things up and I personally find the 30-day program rather motivating.
But then, as the phrase goes, mileage may vary.
wasn't dead space *EXTRACTION* for wii announced at such an earnings call a while back? keep us posted!
I totally just made up a game that didn't exist. Sorry for the confusion. Thank god for the edit button. Now off to preorder my copy of dead space rising...
I'm an addict. And a bad one at that. I check regularly for mods and updates. I watch dutifully as my virtual people expand their virtual networks and grow their virtual lives. I salivate at the items to buy in the EA Store. I peruse the user content and the mods every time before I play. And I am currently in a deep conundrum as a recent EA update totally fucks up a story progression mod I've come to rely on.
Yes, I am the kind of consumer that feeds this beast. And after I've said all that, this is no where near as exciting a prospect as the Sims 2 University was when that was the first expansion pack. It sounds like a lot of content, but it's very specialized. I'd rather content that expanded on the creative potential and gave more character traits to build on. I want some neighborhood development tool kits dag nabbit!
It's not an expansion that expands the game in a way I was looking forward to. That said, those Jilbabs would certainly go a long way to adding some flavor to the rather Ikea-ish world.
I knew EA was still going to try to milk the Sims cash cow. I'll wait out on the whole Sims 3 deal until I can get like half the expansions for $40 or something. Any other way is highway robbery.
@RockyRan: This is a good way to go. I got all of Sims 2 expansions(Screw this 'half' business) and 4 stuff packs off of Ebay for all of $40. Glorious!
Although I may just break down and buy Sims 3 regardless, which would make me weak, oh, so very weak. We'll see how this pack reviews!
