I hate when game designers staple their name into the title of their games. I mean put your name in huge letters on the box, I don't want to hear it every time it is mentioned on a blog. When people are talking about the game they aren't going to use your name in the title anyway, they are just going to call it Alice.

@Chewbenator: Normally I don't mind, but in this case I don't see it's warranted. It's not McGee's Alice; it's Lewis Carroll's Alice ran through a spooky filter. Yeah, technically it's a new story, but when you come up with Wonderland + goth as your starting point, the story kinda writes itself.

Don't get me wrong, as a fan of all things spooky, I enjoyed the first game, but I was always bugged by how he tagged his name on what is basically a stylized rehash of another person's creation.

That and "The Return of American McGee's Alice" sounds retarded, like American McGee's Alice is her name or something. If he must tack his name on it, why not "American McGee's The Return of Alice"?
Actually, that sounds stupid too. Nevermind.

I remember when Alice first came out in 2000, I was working at Best Buy and it was quite a big deal back then.

I also remember having this bad ass screensaver from the game with the cheshire cat that was just really cool. Wish I still had it.

The game itself was a great idea, so maybe that original hype can be recaptured this time around.

@Capp: I had that screensaver too! Somehow convinced my Dad that the family computer needed a serious upgrade "for homework", and once that magical Gateway cowprint box arrived, I bought Alice.

Never got past the first couple levels on account of all the Counterstrike, Quake III, and pornography I used that computer for, but it seemed like a cool game.

Yeah, I liked how it would just flash his evil smile on a black screen, or this eyes would flash and blink before the undead cat appeared. Pretty awesome.

I never beat it either. Was (and still am) more into console gaming back then. The computer was for homework, email and porn. Those were the days of dial-up, so the porn you got was earned and waited on for days. lol

@Capp: Indeed. Five minutes just to get to tits on a photo, and I think video stuff was still a pipe dream until I got to college and could search for all kinds of ungodly filth on the comfort of my own computer via Limewire.

...failing to clear the history, oh man those were dark days. Kids have it fucking easy today with Redtube access on their iPhones and text messages of their female classmates being forwarded around for "material". Back in my day, we walked five miles barefoot in the snow and considered it a fine day to beat off to the Sunday paper's black-and-white fall lingerie sale advertisements.

Seriously guys? Why does the blogosphere continue to herald and hype the machinations of American McGee? I was one of the biggest McGee bandwagon supporters throughout the past 10 or so years and every game since Alice has been an utter waste.

Stop giving him attention until he earns it again!

Accordingly, there are more or less posts about things, which is why multiple sources for your gaming news is a good strategy. I'm admitting total ignorance here, but did any American McGee games actually get released, besides Alice? I know Alice had a pretty wide distribution, I liked it for its style a lot more than its gameplay, but it was an alright game. I was kind of eagerly awaiting Oz but never heard anything about it getting actually released? Am I CRAZY, and if not, what are the chances of this game actually getting released?

This is quite exciting. I know everyone gives American a hard time but the fact is, the man is passionate about what he does and he genuinely tries to offer us the type of games that we rarely see: original ones. They're not always good, but he's trying, and I can't wait to see how this project progresses.
