Yet KoF 2002 is one of the more popular games on 2DF and GGPO..

It may be 2001 and 2002 that you are thinking of. Both were by Eolith, and both were subpar compared to the rest of the KOF series.

Also, old man, get off my lawn, etc, etc.

With the people who grew up with arcades getting on in the years, I think they'll need to start focusing on the older groups, as nostalgia will probably be the easiest way in. Dave N Busters is about the closest I can think anyone has come to this concept - too bad they seem to have a Zero Tolerance policy concerning fighting games.

It's a real shame too. If arcades in the west were even half like the arcades in Asia, I'd be satisfied. Those places are chock full of great games and people. None of this dollar-per-play DDR or Time Crisis bullcrap either. I mean, I like shooting plastic guns at screens, but not THAT much.

As for DDR being less than half a quarter in your country?? You'd be hard-pressed to find places in the United States that don't ONLY have rhythm and light gun games. Even then, those are so expensive. It really sucks.

(Pretend this is a line break)
After playing, I did the math and realized that DNB was charging $1.25 per game. Wowsers.

And no, you know what, I will not look at all 2 comments, because all 2 comments will hurt my eyes reading.
Instead I will comment on how surprising this is in form of news, was really the remake so much better? The original 2002 was certainly a lot more underwhelming than '98.
SNK certainly likes their Dreammatches, but I question how many they can make. '98 seemed like it was enough. 2002 brought a few more new characters, but the novelty seemed less since 2001 had pretty much featured them all already.
And Neowave? Probably the most unnecessary game of them all, imo. I bought it, completed it, and asked what was the point. It was still the same cast as in 2002 and 2001 so it felt even less necessary.
And now XII is another Dreammatch? Well, I can let them, since the new system has not allowed them to redo their rich cast.

Furthermore, why a remake of 2002 _now_?

And by and large, most fans didn't actually like K9999. I didn't mind him so much, but I won't be sorry to see him go.
And SNK fighters of any era > Capcom fighters of any era (except for Vampire Chronicle). Period. Any dissenters are clearly insane and ready for the padded rooms.

I actually like anything Darkstalker/Vampire related more than almost anything SNK. However, I like anything SNK related more than any other Capcom property. (So, at this point, it's SNK > Capcom, due to Capcom filing Darkstalkers under 'forsaken'.)
It seems kinda weird they'd only put in one non-2k2 character for this one, considering 98 Ultimate had every character from 94-98. 2k2 was my second least favorite anyway (with 2k1 being the least favorite, despite its inclusion of Heidern), so I won't get it unless they decide to do something like include EX/ADV modes, improve character interactions, or include 98UM/Garou/Last Blade in a package deal.

Y'know. I love the increased rooster. I really do. But how do you MOTIVATE Jhun/Lin/Shingo? It's like the people standing furthest back when the rest of the class has divided into groups, and thus forced to work together. I'm trying to picture a scenario where Shingo don't get assassinated here.
Also, 4 varations of Kyo? Do people feel like they need that? Do people loose sleep unless they can't play as '95 Kyo or Kusanagi?

The Old Guys Team at least is funny on a level. These three though are just...rather weird

Heck the Dreamcast even gets a couple from time to time. With the PS2's installed user base I would imagine it could well reach 2010 and beyond for the "other" stuff...
