Credit Card? ]]> For those of you who might've wondered just how popular Namco Bandai's idol simulation title THE iDOLM@STER, there's this: THE iDOLM@STER Visa card. Originally an arcade game, iDOLM@STER follows a music producer who oversees up-and-coming popstars. The franchise has since spread to the Xbox 360 and the PSP. There are an anime series and toys, too. What better way to buy an iM@S Haruka Amami than with this Visa card. Buying other stuff, maybe not so great. Slightly embarrassing, even.

<![CDATA[ iDOLM@STER Gets Long Overdue Adult Version ]]> We're not surprised that there's a dirty movie version of Namco Bandai's pop idol sim THE iDOLM@STER, we're just surprised it's taken so damn long. Originally based on an arcade game, the Xbox 360 exclusive title lets players manage candy coated pop princess. It's been a hit with otaku. This naughty "parody" film stars Mika Nurie, Nonoka and Rui Saotome, who blogs:

Today, we filmed the adult version of an idol training game.
For an entire week, we did dance training.
I was worried that I wouldn't remember all the dance moves, but I was able to get through the routine...
I can't say the name of the game, but maybe there are lots of people who know what it is.

Glad to know she was able to remember the dance moves. That's important.

<![CDATA[ New iDOLM@STER DLC Makes Us Uncomfortable ]]> If it wasn't enough that the ages of virtual idols for Namco Bandai popstar title THE iDOLM@STER: Live 4 U already were in the low teens, the new DLC for the Xbox 360 offers a pre-school type "Child Smock" and matching "Child Hat", sandbox pale and shovel, and a band-aid to boot. Available in separate packs, all the kiddy contents totals 1800 Microsoft Points. That's right, DLC to make the teenage singers look younger.

<![CDATA[ iDOLM@STER For PSP Announced ]]> Until now, nerds who wanted to play Namco's pop idol sim THE iDOLM@STER had two choices: Play the arcade versions or play the Xbox 360 versions. But not every owns an Xbox 360 in Japan. (Shocking, we know.) Good news! There's a new option as Namco Bandai is releasing the game on the PSP. Dubbed THE iDOLM@STER SP, this one player game almost looks like a port of the arcade version with PSP-tweaked graphics. There is a new "mail check" system where players have to check the idol's email from magazine writers, stylists and fans. Since Namco Bandai won't be able to make a killing on DLC like it has with the Xbox 360, the company is releasing three versions of the game with three characters spliced into each one. Maximum profits! The three versions (with characters) are:

THE iDOLM@STER Perfect Sun
• Haruka Amami
• Yayoi Takatsuki
• Makoto Kikuchi

THE iDOLM@STER Wondering Star
• Yukiho Hagiwara
• Iori Minase
• Ami and Mami Futami

THE iDOLM@STER Missing Moon
• Chihaya Kisaragi
• Azusa Miura
• Ritsuko Akizuki

Though, people who buy at launch this winter are mostly likely going to buy all three. But, if you are going to buy only one version, buy the Wondering Star one, 'cause you'll get four characters. That's added value, people.

Thanks for the tip, Muu!

Those who've seen the mark know the feeling of having to send their console back in hopes of getting it fixed — or better yet, a new one. But some people don't want a new one. Perhaps they are attached to their console and have fond memories of it. They want their machine fixed. One Japanese Xbox 360 owner (and iDOLM@STER fan) sent his off to repairs and made this short clip when it got back. He writes:
My bride came back.! My Xbox 360 is back from Repairs and I couldn't be any happier. I was so happy... I decided to make a very simple very short video showing my wonderful Xbox and how it is after getting back from the repair
And how does he know its his? The serial number and, well, his topless teen faceplate. Yep.

At a recent Namco press conference, it was announced that music idol managing sim THE iDOLM@STER has sold over 100,000 copies since going on sale last January in Japan. That's not so impressive (it is an Xbox 360 game, though). Here is what's impressive: It's number 3 in the world for downloadable content, selling US $3 million worth. That means the DLC per copy rate is VERY HIGH. What's more, this is only Japan. Free downloadable demos also clock in at 1.2 downloads. <![CDATA[ Does Microsoft's One, Two, Three Punch Matter? ]]> The last two days in Japan: a cheaper Xbox 360 goes on sale, a discounted THE iDOLM@STER goes on sale, and today, Ace Combat 6 goes on sale. For a console that didn't appeal to Japanese gamers, there seems to be a lot appealing about it of late: THE iDOLM@STER has a rabid hardcore fan base, while AC6 has an across-the-board built-in audience. Releasing them bang bang, right after each other, is aggressive on Microsoft's part. Do we think that these titles will hurt the PlayStation 3 in Japan? No. The PlayStation brand is way too strong. But do we think these titles will help sales? Definitely. Who knows—maybe this week, Microsoft might move five thousand Xbox 360s—six thousand maybe! The sky's the limit. Japan's Xbox Live sign-up rate is now highest in the world, thanks to THE IDOLM@STER. Hit the jump to read the article, kindly translated by pokemogu.

THE IDOLM@STER saves the Xbox 360 in Japan? According to several sources, Japan now has the best ratio of Xbox Live sign-ups to the number of units sold.

A person connected to Microsoft explains the reason. "For now, the sales of Xbox Live in Japan are dominated by Bandai Namco's THE IDOLM@STER. It's amazing."

According to that individual, the sales of Microsoft Points in Japan have increased by 230% from last year-end sales. Especially on 25th January, when THE IDOLM@STER was released, Microsoft sold 4 times as many Microsoft Points as they sold on 24th January.

Also, one month after the release, the popularity of THE IDOLM@STER in Japan has yet to decline. Likewise, items which cost 1000 Microsoft Points are selling well. (1,000 Microsoft Points cost ¥ 1,500 or US $13.)

The insider says "Our fans know that playing card games online like UNO is a lot of fun, but we think those people haven't experienced enough. Using THE IDOLM@STER, we would like to start showing how Xbox Live is fun."
