But there's some good news.

According to Nicolas Doucet, producer and creative director at Sony Computer Entertainment London, neither title has been canceled, necessarily, just "put to one side." He tells Gamekult (via Gamespot), that a faint glimmer of hope may still exist.

"Much work had been done," Doucet says, estimating that those games were at about the halfway mark in their development cycles. "The studio just wanted to focus on its strengths, EyeToy and SingStar. Given the potential of EyePet, priorities have been changed, but the other projects aren't dead yet."

Doucet says the decision by Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida has "benefited everyone."

<![CDATA[Finally, The Getaway Is Of Use To Somebody]]> Man, as a package, The Getaway sucked. But the driving parts, and the attention to detail in recreating London, those bits were pretty great, so it's good to see they're at last being put to good use by somebody. A modified version of the game's driving aspect has been used by British scientists to study how London cabbies are able to find their way around the city's winding streets. Their findings are all a bit scientific for our stimulus-soaked brains, but hey, we're sure the surviving Team SOHO members are thrilled to bits regardless.

<![CDATA[Eight Days & Getaway 3 Will Be A While]]> When first trotting out the PS3 for a public look-see in 05/06, two "games" Sony showed off were Eight Days and Getaway 3. Hope you weren't expecting them any time soon (or honestly believed what you saw was real in any way), because The Guardian have been told by Sony London that Eight Days has only just entered full production, and that Getaway 3 is in pre-production, and will only kick it up a notch when Eight Days is finished. Seeing how well-received the first two Getaway games were, I don't know how they hope to keep our expectations in check for that long.

<![CDATA[Assassin's Creed Is Fastest Selling New IP In 5 Years]]> Assassin's Creed hasn't been daunted by other big releases. Because in addition to dominating the UK charts, it's become the fastest selling new IP since 2002. So what top selling IP came last? The Getaway. Yeah, the name didn't quite go down in history as the biggest game of all time, but it's good news for Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed nonetheless. And it's yet more evidence for the power of multi-platform releases. Selling exclusive games may sell consoles, but selling non-exclusive games sure sells games.
