Log into either massively multiplayer role-playing game, Monato Esprit, or real time strategy/first person shooter hodgepodge, Battleswarm to get your goodies.

In proper MMORPG form, Monato Esprit offers up clothes to today's Turkey Day players. Users that log in before midnight on Sunday will score a spiffy pilgrim hat (+25% HP/MP while resting) and "Turkey Wings" (+50HP, +40 Movement, +25% HP/MP while resting).

Meanwhile, in Battleswarm where aliens and soldiers have no need of clothes, users that log in today will get something called a "Rhino Beetle." Sadly the nature of the game doesn't let players keep these items permanently (see our preview for details). But for three days, you'll have something that nobody else in the game does.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

<![CDATA[World Of Warcraft Celebrates Thanksgiving]]> World of Warcraft finally adds a virtual Thanksgiving celebration to it's lineup of seasonal holidays, and just like the real Thanksgiving, Pilgrim's Bounty is mainly about cooking and eating.

I knew something was missing from World of Warcraft. If I am going to be nearly comatose from eating brown food, then my WoW character should be too. During the Pilgrim's Bounty celebration, which runs from November 22nd through the 28th, Bountiful Tables will be popping up outside of major towns and cities in Azeroth, allowing players to sit, eat, and share food until their armor no longer fits. Each table features five different chairs - The Sweet Potato Chair, The Turkey Chair, The Stuffing Chair, The Cranberry Chair, and The Pie Chair - with the player sitting at each chair responsible for sharing his or her bounty with the rest of the class. Eating five helpings of anything grants you a buff. Eating five helpings of everything grants you an hour long 10% reputation gain buff, reflecting the spirit of the season.

I am just tickled that there's something called The Pie Chair. I need one of these chairs.

As I said, the holiday is also about cooking, and Pilgrim's Bounty features five recipes that can take a player from skill level 1 to skill level 340, along with daily cooking quests that result in the prize of a Turkey Caller, which sounds like a pet to me.

Check out the Pilgrim's Bounty page on the World of Warcraft website for more on this gluttonous new holiday.

<![CDATA[Super Monkey Ball Says Happy Thanksgiving]]> I think Super Monkey Ball is the second-to-last game I would come up with when thinking about Thanksgiving — the first being Modern Warfare 2.

Clearly Sega begs to differ though, with this spiffy Super Monkey Ball Thanksgiving wallpaper they posted to their blog. The wallpaper comes along with a hefty update on Super Monkey Ball Step & Roll for the Wii — screens, trailers, the works.

There's also a developer diary from Toshihiro Nagoshi that makes an interesting point about the transition from arcade gaming to console gaming. On the one hand, old arcade games were crazy-hard and a modern, Wii-owning audience might not care for that. On the other hand, though, you didn't really have to read instructions for old school arcade games. You could just pick up and play.

Nagoshi says that Super Monkey Ball has evolved from its hardcore arcade origins into one of those family-friendly video game titles. However, it keeps that pick-up-and-play arcade aspect and adds the mystique of monkeys in balls.

"A lot of people ask me how the monkeys get into the ball, unfortunately, that‘s a secret!" he said. "You will have to use your imagination!"

Just like I have to use it to make sense of monkeys in my Thanksgiving. You got it, sir.

<![CDATA[Walmart Confirms 360 Sale, More Cuts Coming]]> Walmart's official website today confirms the rumor we broke yesterday about one heck of a deal on the Xbox 360 Arcade.

Listed among the one day in-store specials for this Saturday, Nov. 7, is an Xbox 360 Arcade console for $199 that comes with a $100 gift card. Other deals include discounted TVs, a Blu-ray player, DVD player and laptop.

More interesting, though, is what our sources tell us about the sale.

This weekend's one-day sale is just the first of weekly sales that will be hitting Walmart in the lead up to the post Thanksgiving retail sales explosion known as Black Friday.

We're told that this is Walmart's attempt at pulling a little of the focus off that huge shopping day and trying to spread the wealth over the entire month. So look out for future deals, perhaps including more gaming price cuts.

<![CDATA[PETA Beats a Dead Horse, Asks for Veggie Cooking Mama]]> We’ve been following the PETA Cooking Mama back and forth with bated breath.

First PETA created a gruesome, but sort cool take on Cooking Mama, using the doe-eyed chef to highlight some issues the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have with Thanksgiving. Then Majesco responded, pointing out that their games have plenty of vegetarian recipes, and even taking the issue to Cooking Mama herself for some overly cute quotes about animal lovin’.

Now PETA, quick to recognize a publicity train when they see when, have responded in an open letter, telling Majesco just how much they love their Cooking Mama games and asking for a vegetarian-only Cooking Mama game in the future. They’re even offering to help promote it, if the vege game comes to fruition.

Dearest Mama,

On behalf of everyone who worked on Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals, The Unauthorized PETA Edition, I wholeheartedly want to thank you for the hours of enjoyment you have provided us through your various Cooking Mama games. We played and studied them as we prepared our lighthearted parody of your successful series.

Based on your and Majesco's good-natured responses to PETA's game, I think you understand that although we made you into a demonic, knife-wielding maniac in Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals, we still love you. While we had a good time roasting you, the real purpose of our game, of course, was to bring to light some of the horrific practices of the turkey industry. And we mean the animals who are actually mistreated—not the virtual ones you cook up in your digital kitchen. I'm sure you'll be happy to know that, as a result of our game, tens of thousands of people have watched undercover footage from turkey factory farms, and hundreds of thousands have been exposed to the idea that how we treat animals matters.

It's great to hear that you want to "make the world a happier place," because that's pretty much what we want to do too (though it seems that we might have different tactics …). I do hope that you seriously consider making a vegetarian diet a part of your strategy for world happiness. By adopting a vegetarian diet, you can save more than 100 animals per year. Plus, vegetarians live longer and have a considerably lower carbon footprint. I know that—as you are a digital being—these benefits don't exactly apply to you, but I still urge you to take the pledge to be veg for 30 days.

Even if you don't take the plunge into the wonderful world of vegetarianism yourself, I still hope that you will consider making a vegetarian-only Cooking Mama game. There is such a variety of international cuisine, including Indian, Thai, Japanese, and Middle Eastern cuisine, with an abundance of vegetarian and vegan options for you and your followers to explore.

If you do decide to move forward with Cooking Mama: Vegetarian Kitchen please contact us so that we can help promote your game to our over 2 million members and supporters. I already look forward to playing it!

Best,

Joel Bartlett
Assistant Director of Marketing
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals

P.S. Please give Max a big hug from everyone at PETA!

Uh-oh, I hope PETV doesn’t catch wind of this.

[Thanks PETA]

<![CDATA[Cooking Mama Kills Animals - Happy Thanksgiving From PETA]]> It's Thanksgiving time here in America, and you know what that means - millions of dead turkeys! Delicious dead turkeys, mind you, but the folks at PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) don't appreciate that at all, and once more they dig out an iconic video game character to try and get their message across. Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals is actually not a bad flash version of Majesco's cooking franchise for the Wii and DS. It's just a bit twisted. Behead, gut, and stuff a turkey while attempting to get the coveted "Even Meaner Than Mama" score.

Don't fret though, Mama fans. There's redemption in store for the titular hero, and by the end of the game it's all turkeys and rainbows for our tiny, sexual stereotype.

<![CDATA[What Are You Playing This Thanksgiving?]]> Like Mark, my copy of Rock Band, acquired yesterday at Best Buy, remains mint-in-box, unopened due to a tight schedule involving pie making, surprise hosting duties, and soul-crushing amounts of work. At least the falling tears make for a satisfying moderate rock beat as they splash upon my MacBook. Tomorrow, however, I'll break the seal on my copy of Rock Band, set it up, play, download some Metallica, break it down, transport it across town and attempt to work off thousands of calories with the Thanksgiving band. I'll also squeeze in a bit more time with Link's Crossbow Training, as several platinum medals still elude me, plus time with Medal of Honor Heroes 2.

For those not celebrating our lovely American holiday, feel free to let us know what's on your plate whenever you have a spare moment.

<![CDATA[Amazon's Black Friday Voteathon - $79 Wii?]]> Remember last year when Amazon nearly killed itself trying to sell the Xbox 360 on Thanksgiving day for $100? Well their special Black Friday-ish deal voting game is back, with a new twist. There are six rounds of products, and you get to vote on one from each round. Voters for the winning deal will be randomly selected to get that deal on purchase day. The first round consists of a Nintendo Wii for $79, a 40gb PlayStation 3 for $139, or an Xbox 360 Arcade system for $99. Right now the Wii is winning with a whopping 55%, so it looks like that will most likely be the deal come buying day. Can you imagine not only getting the hardest to find console for Christmas for $170 below retail? Do dream it - be it. Hit the link below and vote!

<![CDATA[A Very Raving Thanksgiving]]> I never thought I would say this about a Rayman title, but Raving Rabbids is one of my favorite games at the moment. I have this odd bunny fixation going on in the first place, and then the ability to hammer-throw a cow for points seals the deal. Game Videos has posted the latest in the addictive 'Bunnies Very Useful Scientific Facts' ad series, this time with a Thanksgiving theme.

I have no idea what you're saying, so here's some bunnies with some turkeys on their heads.
