This is a good move for the series and can imagine a large part of making it more "accessible" to the average gamer is to allow for them to feel like a total badass while not making the game highly stressful. Therefore allowing sales to a larger market.
Kinda like what rocksteady did for batman with the simple combat among other things.
Looks slick once again and will be looking forward to trying it out when it hits the shelves. #splintercellconviction
Can't wait. I hope though, they add perks/rewards for going through the missions without killing or being detected. Going super stealth was always my favorite thing about SC. #splintercellconviction
This looks amazing. I haven't played Splinter Cell since the first one (I know, I know), and I get the feeling that they're blurring the line between stealth and action. When I play stealth games, I do my best to stay stealthy the entire time when it makes sense (Hitman, Arkham Asylum), but some games don't really give you that option (Assassin's Creed). Sure it can be done in AC, but it seems to be unclear as to what pisses off some guards.
I noticed that one of the baddies in the video loudly shouts "He's here!" and then is shot. Then another one across the map just shoots and doesn't come to that location. I think that's a step in the right direction for smart AI, but usually if a swarm of guys comes down on me after I'm caught, I know I'm dead. Also, the guy just keeps standing and shooting, which makes it look easy to take him out. Hopefully they make it a little tougher than that.
Regardless, this is looking great. I love the basic tools he's forced to use (that I've read about and haven't seen) instead of having his usual gadgetry...except for the goggles of course :) #splintercellconviction
This game seems alot more action packed than previous Splinter Cells. I hope that's just the developers trying to show off their new features and that it's actually still possible to play the game stealthy.
I always had fun trying to go through the games without taking out any foes (whether knocking them out or otherwise). True stealth leaves no traces. #splintercellconviction
Nope, just convinced me that I'm not interested. I can appreciate that they're maybe not going with the bullet sponge system, and thus real time adjustment is hard when you need to take out three guys immediately at completely different positions without being killed... but marking them and having the game shoot them for you is just not the right solution. I'd rather have slo mo. At least that's manual. #splintercellconviction
@Yossarian: I'm feeling pain right now in my pants region. I'm glad my group of friends was not built on pranks like this, otherwise I might be missing fingers and toes ;) #splintercellconviction
The game is SO stealthy that you can't even see its promo clips.
Where is this video that Fahey is talking about, you might ask? Why it is hiding in the ducts above your head, ready to drop down and bust a cap in your azz when you least expect it.
On another and very late note, I've stayed at the Hotel New Otani. I found it to be amazing! It's so good that I doubt anything can go wrong in there. Although, I did stay in the Osaka branch.
It seems most people are missing the point completely. The main sell here isn't that you can finally browse Facebook using dual analogue thumbsticks. The new feature being offered is that you can *integrate* your Facebook and Xbox Live accounts, meaning that your Friends list on Xbox Live is likely to literally expand to every single person you know that owns an Xbox, instead of your close friends that you happen to speak with about Xbox on a regular basis. It means that your achievements will be posted to your Facebook profile as you accomplishments (serving as challenges to your friends, perhaps) and you can post status updates when the thought occurs to you while using your Xbox (and believe it or not, it will!).
I don't like to complain about them adding things like some of the commenters before me, It's not like them ADDING facebook is going to somehow take away from my gaming experience.
THEY ARE ADDING AN *OPTIONAL* FEATURE
They aren't charging extra, they aren't taking anything away, and you don't have to use it if you don't want to, so don't complain about it.
If this facebook functionality does somehow make your xbox 360 experience less pleasurable, that can't be remedied by simply not using the facebook feature; Then you can come complain about it.
@CamoZombie: Oh nos!! Xbox added the Miis! Microsoft is going casual! It's the end of the world as I know it! Hey, why is this light saber 5 bucks?! I don't want to pay 5 bucks to give my avatar a light saber! Make it cheaper! It never ends...
@CamoZombie: Agreed. And as for those acting like adding these features isn't worth paying MS a fee for Gold Subscription XBL, look at it the other way around. I've been a gold memeber of XBL since it launched. And over the years, the price has stayed the same, but the features and benefits of memebership have increased on a steady flow. XBL has a very large subscriber base. And features such as Facebook, LastFM and Twitter, while not for everyone, only increases the value of the service many of us already love and enjoy.
@jgibson75: I'm only on my second year of XBL, But so far the things they have added/offer for free far outweigh the things they have removed. I think everyone who thinks it's too expensive. (For personal reasons, not because they cant afford it)
Should pay for and play on XBL for a full year before telling us, the paying subscribers, that it isn't worth it.
Don't knock it until you try it.
@jgibson75: Damn, that's a great point! I've been a member since 2004 myself and it's great to see all the things they've added without upping the price.
You've been hearted. (I have no star power!! Though you already have one.)
The Xbox 360 is the new World of Warcraft. The smart ones realize it's a waste of money paying for Live over a long period of time for things you can easily get elsewhere for less or for free (eg. PS3 for games that used to be exclusive to the 360 but now are not, browsing Facebook when you can do it on your computer or PS3, etc). Some will always come back for more because they simply can't stay away, but the majority always finds a way to move on. Or at least minimize the damage by not staying with the service from start to end on a consistent basis.
Seriously. WoW and the 360 are not so different. Both aim to grab your money wherever possible, and give you nothing in return that you can't get for a better deal (or free) elsewhere.
Just saying how it comes across to me.
So, who here is going to be subscribing to Live now that Facebook will be included in the Gold Subscription? Yeah, the beta might be free, but you do know you will have to pay for it later, right?
You know how you come across to me, as a person who doesn't own a 360, dislikes Microsoft, and yet, manages to comment large blocks in Xbox articles regarding the quality of service and system owners on a regular basis?
Jealous. Envious, even. Frustrated that people can enjoy something that you can't have or understand (as you yourself, say). One click on your name tells everyone your comment history and thus, makes whatever valid point you might be trying to argue invalid and tainted.
Why do you even bother opening your flap about Microsoft related services when they obviously don't concern you whatsoever? Unless, as I said, you've got a serious case of the envies and are projecting by saying 'IT AINT THAT GREAT, STOP ENJOYING IT'.
@Komrade Kayce: Or just a person who would prefer if people gave their money to people who provide services he enjoys, which would mean that those services are more likely to survive.
@Komrade Kayce: You've got it wrong. But I don't blame you, I admit it would certainly seem that way by looking at the kind of comments I write. But let me clarify things:
1. Everything I say is just my personal opinion. I don't expect people to agree with me, and I'm accepting of the opinions of others. I say things based on how I see things, in hopes of starting interesting debates.
2. I'm not envious of Microsoft. I'm content with my PS3, and I recognize that there are those out there who are content with their 360's. And that's just fine. And you might not believe this, but I don't *hate* Microsoft. I do disagree with some of their recent business practices and how they treat their customers, but hey, no one's perfect, and they are in business to make money, just like everyone else out there.
3. In my post you replied to, I was trying to show how having Facebook as a paid addition to the Gold subscription is a bad idea, mainly due to the fact that it will be severely limited, and everyone with a PC and an Internet connection already has access to everything the site has to offer, completely, and at no extra charge other than what you pay your ISP.
I'm a Sony fan, I admit that, but even so, I don't like seeing fans of other consoles, even ones I don't want to own, get screwed around. If we all voice our opinions more often, maybe things would have a chance at changing for the better, or at least, be recognized and noted by the companies that make these strange business decisions.
I've got nothing against the 360 or Microsoft. But hey, they've been making some stupid moves this year. As has Sony with the PSP Go to some extent. As has Nintendo with they're arguable failing Wii-Motion Plus that is hardly an upgrade from the original.
Don't get hot-headed, bro. It's only the Internet, and I'm only some stranger you'll never meet who likes to type long comments because of the high typing speed and constant caffeine highs.
And thats fine. But can't people who enjoy what they have, be allowed to enjoy it, without having some jackass running around telling them why they shouldnt? Enter PS3 boy her.
I think you want to go read your own comment history, bro. Every five minutes you're telling people how they're getting ass reamed by Microsoft, how Microsoft sucks, how smart people have moved on from the Xbox, blah blah blah.
Seriously. Go read your own comments. If you really really want, I have an infamously known nasty habit of being able to pick out some gems from peoples histories.
Nobody is getting screwed around here. Nobody. Its just another service being provided. Thats all. A service that apparently neither interests you nor you see the point of.
So whats the point of posting more than once in the same article, to more than one person, telling them how horrible of an idea this is and how the smart kids have already moved away from Xbox Live realizing its a big waste of money.
(also, o rly? How many free games do you think Sony will give you for system downtime? How many people have no problems creating online accounts and using hacks and mods because theres no repercussions? How many devs shy away from providing downloads and support because bandwidth costs money after the first few weeks of PSN release, as opposed to Xbox Live release, which costs nothing, forever? I recognize the benefits of PSN and Free Gaming for All, but to disregard Xbox Live as a big waste of money is stupid, and once again, not something you really have any judgement ability on it seems)
"Austin told me that videos and Facebook apps or games are not yet a part of the service that will be available on the 360, but that it was something Microsoft was "looking at." "
