First Look At Tekken Movie Costume

Another game, another movie adaptation! Here's a first look at the upcoming Tekken movie. No, better yet, a look at an actor in the movie wearing his movie costume! That's world champ martial arts fighter Cung Le as Marshall Law in his Marshal Law garb. The movie is being directed by Marked for Death director Dwight H. Little and stars former boy band singer Luke Goss as Steve Fox, Kill Bill's Chiaki Kuriyama as Ling Xiaoyu and some other people as other characters.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online Gets Free Update

Those who are still enjoying Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online will be happy to hear that Namco Bandai has released a free update to the game (a point of clarification, I assume, because they've historically charged for online capabilities). The update brings Pickup Match Mode, allowing players to skip the waiting room and jump straight into continuous matches. Other than that, there are some minor interface and matchmaking optimizations along with a few bug fixes (that you can read about after the jump). Oh, and there's rumble support now...the metaphorical fat kid of the software patch world. "Wait for me guys!! I'm almost there and it's gonna be so much fun!"

Tekken 6 Not Coming to American Arcades

Right now, the arcade version of Tekken 6 is in loads of places, like NOT AMERICA and NOT AMERICA. Apparently, it's going to stay that way! While the game is most certainly coming to American consoles, it seems that it will not be coming to American arcades. Nothing has been officially announced, but Tekken site SD Tekken points out various reasons why the game won't be coming to American arcades, including the fact that Namco USA no longer has an arcade division and that the US arcade scene is pretty much, well, dead. Still, the cabinets are being imported. So far, Tekken 6 is playable at an arcade in Houston. Americans willing to mingle with Canadians will be happy to find the game in arcades north of the border.

Tekken 5 Online Getting DualShock 3 Support In Latest Update

Namco Bandai hasn't forgotten about you, Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection Online players. Famitsu is reporting, by way of SDTekken, that the PlayStation 3 game is due for a patch that will see a handful of nice-to-haves added. In addition to DualShock 3 vibration support, new online tweaks, including a 1-on-1 "pickup match" and some lobby interface tweaks should be included in the software patch. There's also talk of some point tweaking for your Dan ranking, but we'll hold off trying to decipher what those changes are until we get clearer info.

Former Boy Band Member in Tekken Movie

That long-in-development-hell Tekken lugs closers to the big screen. The movie version has been kicked around Hollywood since 2002 with Sony Pictures' Screen Gems now holding the distribution rights. Back in October, Variety reported that Free Willy 2 director Dwight Little (yeah, we know) would be helming the forthcoming project. Now, apparently it has at least one actor. On the official page of former boy band member Luke Goss, the admin posted that Goss would be taking on the role of Brit Tekken 4 fighter, Steve Fox. After his band Bros broke up, Goss (above, with twin brother) went on to appear in flicks like Blade II and Hellboy 2. Let's hope the producers can work fringe leather vests, acid washed jeans and keyboard playing into the flick.

Oh, for those not familiar with Bros, hit the jump for a special treat:

Tekken 6 Goes On Location Test, Videos Ensue

Namco Bandai recently placed arcade fighter Tekken 6 on location test in Japan and Hong Kong, giving hardcore 3D fighters an early look at the arcade follow-up. YouTube contributor "feichunwong" has uploaded dozens of videos of the PlayStation 3-based arcade machine, showing off new competitors Bob, Leo and Miguel, as well as new stages and costumes. Unfortunately, YouTube video compression doesn't do the game any favors visually, so those picking apart per pixel lighting and frame rates won't find much to chat about.

Tekken Movie Details Emerge

First comes the movie poster, and then come the movie details. Movie news site IESB has gotten their hands on the audition slides from Tekken, and have poured over them distilling pertinent info for our reading enjoyment. Audition slides are key scenes from the movie used to see how role hopefuls react in those situations. We discover that Jin is a smuggler and junkie who is matched against Marshall Law in the tournament. Bryan Fury is being blackmailed by Kazuya, who at some point in the film locks up his dad, forcing Jin to try and save him. At some point the assembled fighters, listed as Marduk, Phoenix, Anna, Nina, Christie, Raven, Gorgo (Eddy!), Fury, Dragunov and Jin, stage an escape from the Mishima complex, which results in the death of a fighter. Who? No clue, and quite honestly this info could all change by the time the actual movie comes out, but an interesting read nonetheless.

Tekken 6 Screenshot Blow-out

After seeing Anna in a witch's hat kicking her heel at Hwoarang, I'm about 99.44% positive you're going to want to see the other 58 screenshots recently released for the arcade version of Tekken 6. It has pigs! And bears farting on kangaroos!

Tekken 6 In Motion From JAMMA

The Japanese Amusement Machine Manufacturers' Association (JAMMA) expo is throwing down in Japan right now in the Makuhari Messe, the same location that will house next week's Tokyo Game Show. The GameVideos gang is on the show floor securing silent clips of games like Tekken 6 in eye-popping obscure-o-vision. How's it look? Like Tekken with a new coat of paint. Surely, the intricacies of controlling a boxing kangaroo or rotund lumberjack will present themselves when we finally get our hands on it. For now, enjoy the graphical prowess of Namco Bandai.

Tekken 5 Online Is...Online

Reported by a kotakuite named Christopher and confirmed by a Kotaku editor named me (not my actual name), the add-on pack for Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is now available for purchase on the PlayStation Network. For $9.99 (there they go using actual dollar amounts again) you get survival mode, the much-needed practice mode, and of course, online mode. Finally Tekken fans across the country can take on each other in head to head matches online. I am pondering downloading it as we speak, though I do have an awful lot of games to catch up on and might not be able to find time to play the online component at all, which is code for I suck at Tekken.

Tekken 6 Gets Chubby Dude

He's fat and he fights! Japan's Arcadia Magazine has revealed "Bob," a new Tekken 6 character. He's a martial arts genius who engineered his body to become HUGE when he was unable beat opponents bigger than him. After going underground to alter his appearance, a beefy Bob resurfaced. Other fighters didn't take him seriously, so Bob entered The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6 to test his new powers. Hope eating's involved! He'd so kick ass.

Itagaki Scoffs at Heavenly Sword

Beside booze and boob physics, Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki doesn't like much of anything! Tekken he hates so hard. And the upcoming PS3 title Heavenly Sword? Meh! The game features "Hero Sequences" in which players have to input particular commands to proceed through a Dragon's Liar-esque cinematic event. In the latest Electronic Gaming Monthly, Itagaki offers his two cents:

I've never played a good game where the developers put a big icon of the button you're supposed to press onscreen... I look at Heavenly Sword and it seems really half-assed, because it's asking you to do all these button-timing sequences but you are not getting much payoff from it.

Itagaki - Tekken Sucks

Normally when we have a quote to share with you from an industry personality we summarize their comment humorously in the title and then give you the actual wording in the main body of the post. Not so this time. Joystiq caught up to Dead or Alive creator and paragon of coolness Tomonobu Itagaki at the recent Championship Gaming Series North American World Series Final, where they asked him if he was looking forward to Tekken 6.

Tekken sucks. I don't know what you're talking about.
The black leather jacket and sunglasses aren't just for show. Itagaki is a bad ass rebel. You'd never hear Yuji Naka say, "Yo, fuck Mario," even though I would personally give him $100 just to get it on tape. The rest of the interview is pretty tame, though he does hint at the possibility of a Wii title down the line.
We're doing a lot of research, that's about all I can say right now. Although, to add on that note, my kids have been saying they want a game for the Wii. To tell you the truth, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, that's because my kids were asking for one of my titles to be on the DS.
The Wii could certainly use a dose of Itagaki's trademark family friendly fare.
