Ninja Gaiden arcade was... meh. But Rygar in the arcade might be the best game in the series! I would compare Rygar arcade (for those who don't know) to some of the best classic Castlevania games!
@AlucardsQuest: Castlevania? Nay. Arcade Rygar is WAY more fast paced than any 'Vania. I'd say it's more like a Super Turrican or Contra-esqe...or even more like NES Ninja Gaiden.
That's good, I was just wondering if they had abandoned it after those few launch titles. I'm still waiting for arcade Donkey Kong and its exclusive pie factory level.

@Devil Azite: Seven Force!: If every game had this GAME-OVER announcer guy's voiced theme, then it would be so tempting to lose the game just to hear it.
@Karlott: Oh, Also, FWIW, Thurman Thomas in Madden 93 (well, OK, #34 Bills RB) was an unstoppable bowling ball. I rushed for over 650 yards and 8 TDs in the Super Bowl as him, and could have had lots more but bled the clock in the 2nd half.
Is it because of my strange I'm-5-years-old favoritism, or were the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins the best two teams in NHL 94?
Also, anyone could win fights in NHL 94. All you had to do was back all the way up where they can't reach you, then fly in for a punch, then back up again.
@Mit: As a Pens fan, I wouldn't know about the Flyers. I do know that they missed the playoffs the year before, the 92-93 season. 92-93 was the first year of Lindros for the Flyers. If you look at their rosters and numbers, yea, they were the best at the time, making them the best in the games.
@n00b_pwner: He just hit a home run last night in the Mariners 7-6 win over the Rays. Sweetest swing in baseball. If he plays one more season he will pass Aaron but this might be his last year just as a tribute to us fans here in Seattle. We love you Griffey!
@omfgh4x: I idolized this guy as a kid. So glad to see that he hasn't been rung up for the juice. Must feel pretty good to sit outside those lines! I collected his baseball cards. I have a couple rookies... a couple rare ones and one of those game-used bat ones back when 60 bucks was a lot of money to a young teenager.
If it weren't for those injuries, we'd be talking about him and not A-rod these days.
While Roenick was broken in NHL94, NHL2000's Tony Amonte was just stupidly overpowered. For some reason, he was faster than anything else in the entire game (at least in the PC version) and could deke any goalie in the game right out of his pads.
He's not one usually mentioned in these ZOMG-so-broken sports things, but here's me, tipping my bottle just a bit in the memory of Tony Amonte's low-poly, circa-2000 self.
I love how on weekends there is such few things to talk about, that we are literally reading sports news. What's next?
"Cash for clunkers sees the ending of a great age!
With President Obama's administration pushing cash for clunkers, people are trading in their old cars. Some of which may or not be featured in old racing games at one point or another. Maybe. Doubtful. But Maybe."
@pinataburster: worst comment of the week maybe, you kids need to shut up when the older generation talks. A true gamer knows the right of passage that is an atari/intellivison/coleco/NES/to the day God made it good and gave us NHL 93 on the Genesis.
@Pornosaur: Please. First of all, I HAVE NHL '94 on my Genesis. I'm 21, so it's not like I didn't grow up in the "old age". I'm just commenting on how on weekends, there is very little actual gaming news, it's funny what lengths Owen has to go through to try and keep the site somewhat updated.
@ertyu: It's a gaming story, not a news story. I'm sorry, but at the age of 6, I wouldn't really call you an active participant in the golden age of Madden, NHL, Tecmo. You really can't get as much out of them until your about the age of 10 I would say.
@VideoGameFan: As someone who is going to journalism school, I would have to disagree with you.
The entire premise of this story is to show that Jeremy Roenick is retiring. The fact that he has appeared in video games simply as a player on a roster isn't really a valid link back to video games. Now let's say, Tiger Woods were to retire tomorrow. He has his own series of games with the PGA series, he's on the cover, a featured player, etc. Then I would say ok, this is video game news worthy. Jeremy Roenick was not featured on any covers, he had no special mentions in the games that he was in. He was just a collection of pixels like all of the other players, the only thing separating him from anyone else was a few 1s and 0s. Are we supposed to make an article every time anyone that has ever been in any sports game retires?
Where do you draw the line?
Thus comes into play my comment. I referred to the dubiousness of this article by making a satirical comment by stating that Jeremy Roenick is about as linked to video games as normal cars in the real world being in video games (such as need for speed, burnout, whatever) and referring back to what has been in the news lately, cash for clunkers.
Then comes in to play the comment of "Pornosaur", stating that I had somehow missed the impact Jeremy Roenick had on video games because I was not an avid player of NHL '94 back when I was a kid, when #1, I infact was, and #2, as I said earlier, even if he was the best player in all of the games he's ever been on the roster for, his link to gaming as a whole is minimal if it even exists at all. When I think of NHL 94 (since it was referenced in this article), the first things that come to mind is the zamboni machine you got to see, and the trick that if you went around to the back of the goalie and then came out and shot in that sweet spot, it would always go in.
Now, back to the main point. No. This is not video game news. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. If I say "Jeremy Roenick" to the average video game player, I bet more than 50% won't even know who the hell he is. But if I were to say "John Madden" or "Tiger Woods", I bet even those who only play hardcore JRPGs would know that's the guy on the cover of so and so game.
And again, this has not been some kind of bash on Owen at all, I like Owen, in fact, I think Owen is one of the best editors they have here on Kotaku. Unfortunately for him, he's the weekend editor, which means that he works on the slowest days for video game news. But he has a job to do, he can't just not do it and chalk it up to "No big stories", so he unfortunately has to write these fluff stories, and I just feel bad for him.
Feel free to continue saying how Jeremy Roenick is actually the biggest name in sports and how I'm all wrong in this, though. It's not like the journalism major knows what he's talking about.

Ronick was the cover boy for NHL 2k4.
He did a series of adds for that game featuring Tracey Morgan. [www.youtube.com]
Furthermore, J.R. has done campaigning for multiple other NHL games of which he wasn't even on the cover, this involved commercials, Mo-cap, and press events.
J.R. came to EAC in Burnaby to Mo-cap for NHL09, making him one of the few players to ever do PR for both major competing NHL game makers.
He also headed a press event later that day, playing games and talking smack.
All of this Ronick+Games media Stemmed from his godlessness back in earlier 16-bit games.
(that and his larger than life personality)
The slogan written on the back of 2k4 was.
"Take Ronick Down!"
Hell, Im no "journalism student", but I do know that doing research is pretty important in the world of journalism.
So go back to school and shut your know-it-all mouth if you dont know anything about what your speaking of.

@CRRRUNK ... ಠ_ಠ: Thank you very much for that commercial. I laughed very hard... especially when the new pro fell backwards at the end. I think I needed a good laugh after that whole exchange!
