This site is. So what exactly is Konami touting with this picture of sneaky Snake equipping a box. What's going on?

Beats me, What, you thought I was gonna tell you on the jump? Siliconera noticed the "Piece Walker" portal, but has no clue, either. The only links on the page are to Konami, Kojima Productions, and the Peace Walker demo.

<![CDATA[Unraveled Anagram Points to FFXIII Announcement Friday]]> A message posted to Square-Enix's official Final Fantasy XIII site on Friday indicates, after not too much work, that some news is forthcoming on Friday.

The news post dated Friday - no link, nothing further - said simply: "A puzzle for FINAL FANTASY XIII fans! Solve this anagram to find out what lies ahead: A Henchmen Inventor Tent Unto. Check back Monday for the answer!"

We can check back on Friday, actually, because a couple users on the finalfantasy-xiii.net forums unscrambled it to say "Announcement Nov Thirteenth." No word if that's the game's long-awaited North American release date. Guess you'll have to check back then.

<![CDATA[Is Rockstar Teasing Next GTA Location?]]> GTA4.Net noticed this "ad" in the Episodes from Liberty City instruction manual that, reading between the lines (or around the torn out part, anyway) seems to tease where the series is headed next. And maybe when.

The ad, apparently for a fake movie, declares "Liberty City, It's Over!" implying, naturally, that we're all done here. "Next stop," it says, and that portion appears to be torn out, except for the word "Seagull." I think it looks like the name of a hotel, but who knows.

To the left of that is "Opens March Everywhere," and your guess is as good as mine as to what that means. But Rockstar knows what it's doing here, it's getting people to talk, and we've taken the bait.

(A picture of the entire "ad" is at the link below.)

<![CDATA[Japanese LittleBigPlanet Site Ain't Afraid Of Posting Ghostbusters DLC]]> The Japanese LittleBigPlanet website beats North America to the punch, revealing downloadable Ghostbusters costumes of Slimer, all four Ghostbusters, and the Littlest Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Media Molecule and Sony have been teasing the Ghostbusters downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet for a good week now. While we're still waiting for the big reveal as of this writing, visitors to the Japanese LBP site already know which costumes will be available for purchase next week.

Lucky Japanese people. I sure hope they reveal the outfits in North America soon, so I can be all excited too.

<![CDATA[Kojima Productions Teaser Site Goes Live, Is Mostly Cloudy]]> As previously threatened, the Konami's Metal Gear Solid team has kicked off a storm of pre-E3 announcement hype online. Kojima Productions has launched the teaser web site for the developer's next project today.

What does it tell us? About as much as the print ad running in the newest issue of Famitsu, showing only a grassy field under a thick blanket of clouds, with a fence and sparse forest on the right and left, respectively. No reveal date, as shown the print teaser.

The only other real information is provided via the site's meta keywords, which include "Hideo Kojima, MGS, METAL GEAR, NEXT, game, konami, kojima game, KJP, Kojima Production." The site refers to the product as only "Kojima Production NEXT."

Whatever the Metal Gear team's next project is, already pledged to be announced at E3, it's almost guaranteed to have clouds.

Update: Reader Gary noticed the above bitmap squirreled away in the teaser site's Flash movie. The first cloud icon on the far left is the current "loading" image, but it would appear that Kojima Productions has more of those icons planned.

If we were joining in on theorizing what they would mean, if anything, we'd speculate that the lightning storm, sun and exclamation point could hint further at more Metal Gear. Respectively, those could be references to Metal Gear Solid 2 star Raiden, Sunny from Metal Gear Solid 4 and the series' trademark alert icon.

Of course, this may be nothing more than a red herring from Kojima Productions. But the Metal Gear references shouldn't be ignored.

<![CDATA[Assassin's Creed 2 Teased, Revealed Next Week]]> The official Assassin's Creed web site gives us a brief taste of the second entry in the series and clues us in on when we can expect concrete details on Assassin's Creed 2—next Thursday.

The teaser consists of little more than a short Flash animation, rendered in a hand drawn style noticeably similar to that of Leonardo da Vinci's inventions—focusing on the concealed blade Altair used in the original—and his Vitruvian Man. The final drawing hints at some sort of winged contraption that may indicate we'll be doing some flying (or at least some floating/humming of the Batman theme song) in the sequel.

The teaser also notes that we'll see more in the upcoming issue of Game Informer, with the date April 16, 2009 presumably indicating when the games mag is allowed to lift the veil on Ubisoft's sequel.

Given the Italian pedigree of the teaser, we'd think those rumored details of Assassin's Creed 2 taking place in Venice are sounding more and more likely. We're sure to know by next Thursday. Keep an eye peeled!

<![CDATA[Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers Website Craves Your Clicks]]> Square Enix has launched a teaser website for the long-awaited Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers, with page visits determining when new videos of the game are released.

In case the trailer included in the Japanese version of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time weren't enough, this new teaser site should provide more than enough proof that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers for the Wii is still a going concern. The top right corner of the website currently features the aforementioned trailer, along with the wallpaper seen above, in sizes up to 1920 x 1200. There are also two grayed-out items, "It's Gonna Be A Long Night" and "Public Spectacle", with the words "More Visits, More Movies" flashing over them. You know what this means. We're going to have to visit the hell out of the page. Here's a link to kick things off.

<![CDATA[Codemasters' Dirt 2 Teaser A Bit Dirtier Than Expected]]> I'm not quite sure what a nearly naked woman taking a shower and cooking pork parts has to do with anything, but I suddenly feel like a little off-road racing.

It's definitely a teaser trailer; I'm just not sure what it is trying to tease. Arguably it's for Colin McRae: Dirt 2, the off-road and rally racing title from Codemasters, but I don't really feel that's what is being teased here. Can't quite put my finger on it. I suppose if I could I'd probably be too busy to write this. All I know for sure is that this is the last place I'd expect to have to use the NSFW tag.

Oh, and feel free to stop the clip when things go black. I think my video conversion software was just as confused as I was.

<![CDATA[BioShock 2 Warns "There's Something In The Sea"]]> Take-Two has officially set the BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams hype machine in motion, launching a new teaser web site for the game and plastering viral marketing posters linked to the online marketing effort.

There's not much to see at the "There's Something In The Sea" site outside of photo of the Big Daddy doll (seen in the first BioShock 2 trailer), a newspaper clipping detailing the kidnapping of 7-year-old Maura Clune, and a hand-written letter speculating on the kidnapping from a J. Lynch. These documents are pinned to a map with the date "2/20/67" scrawled next to the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland.

2K Games has begun teasing the game in another fashion, as well.

Reader Dominique sent us the above snapshot of a "There's Something In The Sea" promo poster, which teases the same red light described in the account of Maura Clune's kidnapping.

We're sure to learn more soon, as BioShock 2's release date looms ever closer.

<![CDATA[Alpha Protocol Trailer Speaks To Me]]>
The best thing about this tiny little teaser-ish trailer for Sega's spy-action title Alpha Protocol? Looking back over my life, they could have played this clip before I started any job I've ever had and it would be completely appropriate. This business changes you. You never know who to trust. Do they really want regular tacos, or do they want tacos supreme? I couldn't tell you Mike. Also of note, almost every job I have ever had ended with me standing on the upper floor of a skyscraper with broken windows as a combat helicopter flies by. It's uncanny.

<![CDATA[SEGA Working On Mystery RPG]]> As you can see from the above screen shot, SEGA are working on an RPG. Now! If you sit through the (incredibly long) flash video on the teaser site you will see the announcement, together with the Famitsu Weekly logo and the date 9.26.

So, it looks like there will be a proper unveiling next week, but of what? The NeoGAF forum folks seem to think that the 'Dragon' domain name and the music in the flash movie point to a Dragon Force remake, but that music — go-to music man Yuzo Koshiro is said to be involved — as sounds a bit too retro for a Saturn game.

<![CDATA[Far Cry 2 A Triumph Of Zebra Rendering]]> Ladies and gentlemen, Ubisoft presents the most realistic looking zebra ever included in a video game. For years the industry has striven to bring photo realistic striped plains horses to your console and PC, always reaching but never grasping that elusive spark that could breath life into these majestic animals. The spark has now been found. Far Cry 2 of course swaps the jungle environs of the original game for sweeping grassland vistas, because cityscapes are overdone and Lost Planet already had the snow thing locked in. Be prepared to explore some of the most breathtaking scenery you've ever seen in a game, and maybe set fire to it. Perhaps George Broussard forgets that some of us have been waiting to play, even see Duke Nukem Forever for longer than a lot of new gamers have been playing games. Heck not only was my son not yet born, I wasn't married when the game was first announced. It's been ten years folks, well nearly.

Broussard seemed a little taken aback by the reaction to his announcement last night that there would be a "teaser video" hitting today around noon Central Time. So taken aback, in fact, that he decided to amend his statement.

Guys just to manage expectations...

This is a teaser. It's not a full blown trailer like the 2001 trailer (but something like that is coming). I tried to be clear about that in the message board post, so just bear in mind that it's a teaser :)

Enjoy.

I suspect visions of torch-carrying, lynch-pondering gamers, not sugar-plums, dancing in his head, spurred the second statement. We'll make sure to get the video up, or a link to it, just as soon as it goes live. I plan to be disappointed.

We know only a few details about the Namco Bandai's Fragile for the Wii. <![CDATA[The Legend of Zelda 2008 Website]]> Now before you get all excited, let me tell you one thing. Don't get too excited. This "website" is really only a teaser page and in all likelihood, has nothing to do with Nintendo. A quick whois lookup reveals that the domain was registered through GoDaddy and seeing as Nintendo generally registers their domains through Network Solutions, the probability of this being an actual licensed project is slim to none. More probable is that this is some fan project that may or may not ever come to fruition. Anyone care to make further speculations?

<![CDATA[Ex-Relic Team Forms Smoking Gun]]> The Exoriare.com mystery that plagued so many of us last week has been solved, and as the smoke clears we are left with, what else? A smoking gun. Senior staff from Relic Entertainment, creators of the amazing PC strategy game Company of Heroes - the highest rated RTS ever - have banded together to form Smoking Gun Studios, focused on "creating innovative award winning cross platform games." If only other development studios shared those goals!

While this is exciting news to be sure, the teaser site thing was annoying enough when announcing big titles like God of War PSP or Starcraft II. This was far too much build-up in order to say, "Look, a company!" This trend needs to stop before we end up having to complete a slide puzzle every time we want to wipe our asses.

<![CDATA[Final Fallout Teaser Image]]> The final concept art for Fallout 3 before the teaser trailer arrives in seven days' time is here, and once again Washington DC isn't looking all that good.

falloutmom.jpgI'm with the Fallout forum regulars here...this is just too similar to the Capitol building concept from three weeks ago to really be all that interesting. They should have ended it with the spectacular piece from last week, which highlighted the 50's vibe that we know and love.

And that's it for the concept art. Now we just have seven days til the extremely important teaser trailer, as the more rabid Fallout followers sit by their computers, lighters poised under Molotov rag wicks as they watch for the slightest misstep. You can do it Bethesda. I believe in you.

Gearing up for the announcement about a new game during the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in South Korea (19-20 May), the Blizzard homepage now has a timeline of notable games at the bottom, from Warcraft: Orcs and Humans (1994) to WoW (2004), but a big fat question mark for the future.

If their intention was to whip fanboys into a frenzy, I'm sure they'll succeed.
