The Unreal Engine 3 remake was promised a release by the end of 2009, and by gum its getting it, if only on one of three platforms. The game features an extensive single-player story mode filled with aliens and the killing thereof as the game's hero explores a derelict ship. Team17 promises comic-book style art, excellent voice acting, and exciting set pieces that will keep players on the edge of their seats.
Players can either hoof it solo or join up with a friend for local and Xbox Live co-op multiplayer.

Alien Breed was probably the best thing going on the Amiga, back when it was a thing going itself. Let's hope Team17 knows what its doing the second time around.

<![CDATA[Worms, Now On Your iPhone]]> Has there been a single format through human history that hasn't seen a port of Worms? Probably not, as the iPhone's "Got Worms" box has now been well and truly ticked.

Team17's classic strategy title was released earlier today for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It's only $5, and while we haven't played it yet ourselves to try it out, it's Worms. If it works on a crummy old regular phone, it should work on the iPhone.

<![CDATA[Alien Breed Evolution Evokes Fond Amiga Memories Later This Year]]> Worms creators Team17 Software formally announced its plans to release Alien Breed Evolution, an Unreal Engine 3-powered remake of its Amiga top-down shooter.

As the original Alien Breed is now 18-years-old, some of you may be too young to remember it. Think Gauntlet meets Aliens. Or, you know, think Alien Syndrome. (No, don't think of the more recent Wii re-imagining. Think of the Sega arcade original.)

Team17 didn't confirm a platform (or platforms) for Alien Breed Evolution, but we hope they'll offer co-op alien killing enjoyment for anyone with access to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. The "retro modern" remake is due later this year, with the developer promising more details before end of Summer.

<![CDATA[Worms 2: Armageddon Crawls To Live Arcade Next Week]]> When Team 17 tells us that a game is coming out "real soon", they mean real soon, with the proper sequel to 1991's Worms Armageddon hitting Xbox Live Arcade a week from today.

Team 17 passed along the first trailer for the game just week, shooting out a follow-up email afterwards teasing a release date in the very near future. Well that very near future is very near indeed. Seven days separates you from more Worms action than you can bisect cruelly with a stick. In fact, if you go to the original post, you can see that Team 17 updated the YouTube vid with the July 1st release date, making this post completely unnecessary. Forget I said anything. Just go to that post, and dance along with the music.

<![CDATA[Worms 2: Armageddon Trailer Full Of Armageddonness]]> Even more classic Worms-style gameplay is coming to Xbox Live Arcade with Worms 2: Armageddon, a proper numerical sequel to Team17's 1999 classic turn-based strategy game Worms Armageddon.

Worms 2: Armageddon's trailer highlights the changes coming to the XBLA version—and eventually to the PC and Mac—including new vertical levels and other landscape types, all-new weapons and much more. Team17 tells us we can expect the game "soon, real soon," so keep an eye peeled. (We didn't see the game listed under Microsoft's planned "Summer of Arcade" promotion, so hopefully that "real soon" will be sooner than we anticipated.)

Until then, might not be a bad idea to hook up the Dreamcast (or PlayStation or Nintendo 64) to get some Worms Armageddon practice in.

<![CDATA[Carmen Electra And Jay Mohr Add Class To Leisure Suit Larry]]> A couple of relatively not safe for work videos demonstrate the Oscar-worthy voice acting performances of Carmen Electra and Jay Mohr in Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust.

Box Office Bust, which was picked up by Codemasters after Activision Blizzard wisely dropped it from their lineup, features the return of Larry Lovage from the previous game in the series, who takes a summer job working on the film lot of the original Leisure Suit Larry, Larry Laffer. Carmen plays Ginger Vitus, a porn star trying to become a mainstream actress, which sounds like a real stretch for her. Jay Mohr plays some guy named Kip, and apparently spent his teenage years ruining socks. *sigh*

While the nudity from the last game won't make a reappearance, it seems like Team 17 has more than made up for it in sheer crudeness. Check out Mohr's clip below for even more "hilarity".

<![CDATA[Worms Armaggedon Decades Coming To Xbox Live Arcade]]> Looks like Xbox 360 owners will get to eat more worms, as Australia's classification body has rated Worms Armageddon Decade, a release that appears to be a Live Arcade remake of the ten-year-old strategy title.

While XBLA already has one Worms release, now about two-years-old, Worms Armageddon Decade represents a highlight for the series. The original Worms Armageddon landed on the Dreamcast, PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and PC in 1998. Un-fun fact: it's the only Worms game I own.

As GamerBytes points out, it's quite possible that Decade is a Live Arcade "exclusive."

<![CDATA[Alien Breed Remake Coming In 2009]]> Remember Alien Breed? It was an Amiga classic, later rolling up on the (DOS) PC. If you are unfamiliar, think Gauntlet, with a heavy dose of Aliens - space Marines battling wave after wave of slavering death, the usual deal.

Well, remember it or no - it's coming back. Team 17 have confirmed to Videogaming247 that they are working on a remake for release next year.

Quite how it will distinguish itself from all the other space-marine-battling-wave-after.. etc, games that have arrived since the early 90s — not to mention the officially licensed Aliens games — remains to be seen. It was fun at the time though, so maybe Team 17 still have a bit of the old magic left down the back of the action gaming sofa.

Worms 2008: A Space Oddity will include four new mini-games, an enhanced single player campaign, new landscape view mode and new weapons, including the Impact Frag, Atom Packs and Cluster Frags. In Worms 2008, the worms are exploring their solar system, fighting to defend installations, repair space craft, collecting minerals and battling alien races.

The game is scheduled to hit 850 mobile phone types starting in June. More details on the release after the jump.

Graphical effects like smoke trails help to bring shots to life, while multi-layered parallax particles enhance the depth of field effect and have direct impact from gameplay, reacting to the direction and strength of the wind.

Also, debuting in Worms 2008 is a new AI system that allows enemy worms to determine the greatest threats, navigate the landscape and unleash a variety of weapons. Players will also be able to see the main game in landscape mode, as well as classic portrait mode. This view will allow the user to see more of the landscape and will give an experience closer to playing the game on a widescreen.

Worms 2008 is scheduled to be available for over 850 mobile phones starting in June 2008.

According to the Team 17 official web site, tomorrow Wednesday, May 30th at 9:00 GMT, a new batch of Worms-related goodies will be hitting Xbox Live. In addition to a free Space landscape, you'll have the opportunity to pay 150 Microsoft Points each for a Hell landscape and Jungle landscape. Other things you shouldn't buy include some Worms themes at 150 MS Points each and Worms profile pictures at 100 MS Points for five, 200 MS Points for twelve.

That's only 700 MS Points for everything or $8.75 US in real monies. Remember, you can't take it with you, so make with the flushing of the expendable income.

<![CDATA[Worms 2007 Goes Mobile]]> THQ Wireless announces an agreement with Team 17 to bring a new chapter their brilliant trajectory shooter Worms to mobile phones worldwide next month. Being a die-hard fan of the Worms franchise, I am officially starting to get intrigued by this...cell-phone gaming they speak of.

The game will be called Worms 2007 and will feature the same gameplay we all know and love (unless we don't) along with a host of new weapons and features, such as the ability to play over a cell phone. Always a good mobile game feature, or so I've heard.

The game will also feature full 3D backgrounds of high-end phones that support it, while allowing us low-teks a chance to play a depressingly flat 2D version.

So, anyone have any tips on what sort of phone I should get to dip into mobile gaming? Right now I have a Samsung SGH-P207 half-covered in dried crazy glue due to an unfortunate pocket explosion. Will that do?

<![CDATA[Worms Live To Finally Arrive]]> After several miscasts, Microsoft and Team 17 are finally baiting the hook, hoping to catch thousands of Xbox Live Arcade players next week with the release of Worms, the classic game of invertebrate combat. The old favorite is set to become a new favorite in full HD goodness, with support for up to four players via Xbox Live. You can obliterate opposing oligochaeta with 22 different weapons, including the bomb that inspired World of Warcraft's greatest engineering marvel, the exploding sheep. It's enough to keep all ten of your hearts racing, all for a measly 800 MS points.

I've been waiting for this game for so long it isn't funny. Special thanks to Microsoft for finally giving the game the green light to be release the week of GDC, when I will be over a thousand miles away from my Xbox 360. Bastards.

<![CDATA[Team17 on Live Worms Delay]]> wormscrawlin.jpgMany Xbox 360 gamers were frustrated by the news that there wasn't going to be an Xbox Live Arcade release this week, and Team 17's head honcho Martyn Brown assures everyone the frustration is mutual. Speaking to Eurogamer, Brown explained that while Worms has been on the verge of release twice now, it can't seem to clear the bar set by Microsoft.
"Worms is one of the 'richer' XBLA experiences in that it'll provide hours and hours of repeat play through it's on and offline multiplayer modes. Unfortunately that's meant a hell of a lot of testing and also re-submissions on what we felt were final builds.

Dammit, I needs me some Xbox Live Worms action. Games involving angles and trajectory have been a love of mine since Scorched Earth on the PC. I might not be able to play fighting games worth a damn, and maybe I spend more time spawning that shooting in most FPS titles, but damn if I can't calculate firing angle and power while accounting for wind speed variations, parabolical style. Hopefully they'll get everything ironed out and we can have a release date a bit more accurate than 'soonish'.

<![CDATA[Worm Infestation Threatens Xbox Live Arcade]]>

Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, guess I'll go play Worms. Team 17's classic multiplayer war game nears completion for deployment on over Xbox Live. For the uninitiated, Worms is a 2D game where you take control of a team of armed invertebrates and use the awesome power of trajectory VS. wind speed to lay waste to your opponents. I like to pretend the 3D console versions never actually happened. Martyn Brown, creative director of Team 17 in the UK, has this to say on their forums:

Plans for announcements are being discussed with MS next week, hold tight. The game is in final certification stages btw, yes it's pretty much all finished apart from any last bugs they find. MS has a schedule of releases and we'll soon find out how we fit into that.

Unfortunately, as 1UP points out, Live's release card is full for the year, but it is only a matter of time before Live gamers everywhere tear into each other with exploding sheep.
