<![CDATA[Hands-On With Frank West And His Zombie Horde]]> Dead Rising's Frank West can beat down opponents with golf clubs and baseball bats in Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, but it's his ability to call on shambling zombies that makes him a formidable opponent.

Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, with its colorful cast of Capcom characters and throwbacks from Japanese animation company Tatsunoko productions, is almost more about over-the-top and fun fights than it is about skill and tactics. Almost.

While the game limits moves to three buttons, weak, medium and strong attacks, a skilled fighting player can still squeeze quite a bit out of the title.

Earlier this week I sat down with Capcom's Seth "S-Kill" Killian to chat about Super Street Fighter IV and play a bit of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.

The event, held on the 48th floor of a downtown New York hotel, gave me a chance to check out a handful of new characters for the upcoming fighter including Joe the Condor, Tekkaman Blade and Zero. But I spent my time with the game playing an almost emaciated looking Frank West from Dead Rising.

West's main attacks include swinging a baseball attack into the mid-section of an opponent and slapping enemies with a golf club in a giant, low-to-high swing. When not engaged as the main character in the tag-team battles, he can also be called on to hop into quickly and stun an opponent with the flash on his camera.

But as we all know, Frank West's real skills involve zombies.

West can call out a zombie from either side of the screen or drop one from the sky into the middle of the battle. The twist is that once the zombie starts making its way across the screen, it will attack anything in its path, including you.

Fortunately, West has his bat and golf club, which he can use to smack the zombies across the screen at enemies. He can also call on a zombie to shoot from one side of the screen to the other in a shopping cart.

West is a fun character to play in the game and his unusual abilities add a nice change of pace to the title. The best part of playing Frank West, though, are some of his super attacks.

One involves him dressing up as Mega Man and blasting away at an opponent, but my favorite arms West with a Servbot helmet. It's hard to pull off, but if you land the attack, West slaps it on his opponents head and then pushes him through a massive crowd of zombies.

So fun.

<![CDATA[Joe the Condor Ties Up Chun-Li, Busts a Cap in Her]]> Here's more than two minutes of Joe the Condor - announced recently as Tatsunoko's last combatant in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom - beating ass galore with teammate Jun the Swan, versus Chun-Li and Morrigan. Capcom's nothing if not a gracious host.

<![CDATA[Final Two Characters Revealed for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom]]> In my day, we knew him as Jason. Of course, that was in the U.S., watching Battle of the Planets. But in Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, he is Joe the Condor, and he's Tatsunoko's last entrant. But who is Capcom's?

From the Mega Man continuity, it's Zero - from Mega Man X, or Rockman X since we're deferring to the Japanese titling here. Zero's official announcement for the North American localization of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom confirms a rumor about a month old. IGN got the exclusive reveal earlier today, and has video of both characters in action.

<![CDATA[Watch Frank West Golf a Zombie in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom]]> Frank West's 5-iron isn't just for beating the crap out of your foe in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. As Seth Killian demonstrates, it can also properly motivate the zombies he summons. Don't mess with Frank. He's covered par fours, you know.

<![CDATA[Capcom Seeks Suggestions for Next Vs. Title]]> Whether joking or serious, Capcom-Unity's asked for input on what its next Vs. game should be, and that sets everyone to wondering if one really is in the works. They're offering a meager bounty for the best-reasoned suggestion.

Winner gets "precisely 12% of the swag in Seth's "random Capcom swag" box. You can supply yours at Capcom-Unity. But it's kind of pointless because I've already thought of the winner: Stephen J. Cannell vs. Capcom. You need a franchise with a huge stable of classic action heroes, right? With this you get all four members of the A-Team; The Greatest American Hero; Ken Wahl in Wiseguy; Jim Rockford from The Rockford Files; Fred Dryer in Hunter; Johnny Depp in his 21 Jump Street Days, plus Hardcastle ... and McCormick.

Bam, it's like printing money. I can't believe I'm still here pitching this to you and you're not already working on it, Capcom. Get moving, we can talk about my residuals later.

<![CDATA[Is Frank West In Tatsunoko VS. Capcom?]]> Some sloppy web design may have revealed the final four characters for the North American version of Capcom's Tatsunoko VS. Capcom, and one of them has covered wars, ya know?

Shoryuken forum poster Mumu was poking about the source code for the Tatsunoko VS. Capcom character site when he noticed something strange in the HTML. While only a few characters had been revealed on the page itself, whoever had built the site pre-loaded all of the images for said characters in a Javascript function, revealing four characters we've not yet seen.

'images/oncharactor_btn_zero.jpg'
'images/oncharactor_btn_frank.jpg'
'images/oncharactor_btn_yatter02.jpg'
'images/oncharactor_btn_joe.jpg'
'images/oncharactor_btn_tekkabla.jpg'

These characters would appear to be Mega Man Zero, Dead Rising's Frank West, Yatterman #2, and Joe Asakura, AKA Jason from Battle of the Planets.

Along with Tekkaman Blade, who was recently revealed, those characters would seem to round out the North American Tatsunoko VS. Capcom roster quite nicely.

Of course sloppy website coding is by no means official confirmation. We've contacted Capcom about this rumor, and quickly received a "No comment!" Make of that what you will.

<![CDATA[Tatsunoko vs Capcom Gets A New Character]]> Capcom's Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars is going to be a little different when it's released in the US. Like, it'll have online play. And new characters.

The first of those characters has been revealed, and it's Tekkaman Blade, from...Tekkaman Blade, which Americans may know better as Teknoman.

With four new characters promised, that's one down, three to go.

<![CDATA[Tatsunoko vs Capcom Gets Four New Characters]]> Capcom's Wii fighter Tatsunoko vs Capcom will, when it reaches Western shores, make the journey with some new content previously unseen in the Japanese edition.

Like what? Like, maybe, online multiplayer. Along with four new characters. Yup. Four. Two from Capcom, two from Tatsunoko.

There's no word on who they'll be, but you're free to start wishing like crazy. Baby Head and some Samurai Pizza Cats would be my pick.

<![CDATA[Capcom Toyed with Idea of Phoenix Wright vs. Tatsunoko]]> Ryota Niitsuma, producer for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, says the company did have plans to put the famed juris doctor in the lineup, but ran into problems because his OBJECTION! was just too powerful in English.

Niitsuma told NGamer magazine that Capcom wanted Phoenix Wright, and Franziska von Karma (for her whip), in the game, but ran into trouble with Wright's move set.

Because Phoenix Wright only has one move, 'Objection!', we struggled. We designed a move for him: when he says objection, the actual writing attacks the opponent. However, 'objection' in Japanese is 'igiari' - it's four characters, whereas 'objection' becomes ten [sic. It's nine, actually.] When we localize, the balance of the game gets destroyed because the move becomes bigger. There'd be no way of avoiding it! We had to remove him for these reason. In the future, it is one of our aims to get him in.

<![CDATA[360, PS3 Stand Better Chance of Seeing Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Sequel]]> You're more likely to see Xbox Live and PSN get a sequel of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars than a port of the original, says a Capcom producer.

That's because "the game is optimized for the Wii system, especially the graphics features," Capcom's Ryota Niitsuma told VideoGamer.com. "So if we were to port it to PS3 or Xbox 360 we would have to make the game from scratch, and in that case we might as well just make a sequel of the series on those consoles rather than porting it."

Note: That does not confirm either that a sequel is being made, or that anything in the franchise is being made for XBLA or PSN. Niitsuma's just sayin'. "Currently, no," is the answer to "will TvC be released on 360 or PS3." But, "We would like to see the reaction of the western market when we release the game on Wii."

Ah, yes, so that places 360 and PS3 gamers in the position of needing Wii gamers - to shell out in large numbers once Tatsunoko vs. Capcom releases in the winter. At least, those who have any hope of seeing this game on their console down the line.

<![CDATA[Tatsunoko vs Capcom Might Get Online Multiplayer]]> Tatsunoko vs Capcom is coming to the West. Hurrah! That's enough cause for celebration, but more corks may need to be popped if the game makes its way over with some online multiplayer.

The Japanese version of the game shipped without it (you could only play against other humans on the same console). Which may cut it in Japan, but in the West, a fighter without online multiplayer just isn't going to cut it.

Which is why Capcom are looking into it. Producer Ryota Niitsuma has told Nintendo Power "We listened to feedback from our fans and marketing/sales teams in other territories in order to implement new features into the game this time around".

While he didn't specifically mention what some of those other features may be, he does strongly suggest the inclusion of online multiplayer, saying "we are still working this out, but stay tuned for more information coming soon".

Promising!

<![CDATA[New Wii Arcade Sticks (Now With Added Tatsunoko vs. Capcom!)]]> Exar make great arcade sticks, and are bringing two new ones to the Wii. You may/will be interested. Both are basically the same thing - a classic six-button arcade layout - but come in two flavours. One is a standard, blank stick, which breaks up the requisite Wii-white with a lovely shade of blue. The other is the same stick, just with some classy Tatsunoko vs. Capcom branding all over it. The blank one launches November 27 for ¥5229 (USD$56), while the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom one launches December 11 for ¥6279 (USD$67). Don't complain about the higher price. Gatchaman is worth the extra spend.

<![CDATA[Tatsunoko vs. Capcom vs. Arcade vs. Wii]]> Japanese arcade title Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is getting a console release — a Wii console release. On December 11th, the game is slated to come out in Japan. The game pits Capcom characters against Tatsunoko anime characters. The Wii version will feature an original challenger: Tatsunoko anime sneezing genie Hakushon Daimaou. Interesting to note that Tatsunoko is handling the character endings. The game is currently 70 percent done, and the Wii version will have more fighters. The arcade version should be out in December as well.
