Hot damn I'd love to be an analyst. Its like the easiest job in the world. If you make a prediction and it doesn't work out you can always change the date and reuse it! And if you're completely wrong it doesn't matter because chances are, out of the hundred other analysts out there, you'd probably be in the majority of those who guessed wrong

Microsoft needs to push some new exclusives this year. Sony needs to cut back on the PS3's features to sell it for cheap, add BC, and expand on it's built-in software (why doesn't it have the PSP's RSS reader? Or music visualizations? or Internet Radio?).

Nintendo needs to... keep on trucking?

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the system. It has a few games which show that colours can make up for a lack of processing power.

But Nintendo COULD be using its current millions to take a risk and start pushing the third party companies into making some hardcore games completely not aimed at the casuals.

To each their own. I know the system is a perfectly capable system, just like a PS2 is perfectly capable of playing games, but the visual whore in me wishes that Nintendo plans to compete more in the hardware spectrum next generation.

@Theoutlet: When was the last time more than one console was successful at the high end of the hardware spectrum? The SNES/Genesis generation? And that was due primarily to geographic splits--Nintendo completely dominated some continents, and Sega completely dominated others. Realistically speaking, I don't think we'll know what Nintendo plans to do next generation until at least one of Sony and Microsoft announce their plans, and possibly both--Nintendo's in the best financial shape to wait until they see the unfilled niche and then jump to fill it.

the high-end of the spectrum has never been "the winner." Master System (8 bit), TG-16 (technically also 8-bit), Neo-Geo, Jag/3DO (were meant to compete vs. SNES/Gen), N64 (relative to PS1), Xbox (success, but weak vs PS2 sales), the list goes on.

@mercatfat: The market was never as stratified as it is now. Sure the Xbox was more powerful than the PS2, but they were in the same ballpark.

@EskimoKiller: Microsoft and Sony both need to have their gaming divisions be profitable in the long run, either in and of themselves or in some benefit they generate for other divisions, or the shareholders will sure the board of directors for mismanagement. Also, Nintendo already showed they can wait to see what the others are up to before they commit--while Sony and Microsoft had told us all about their machines, we still thought the Wii was called the Revolution. Now they're in an even stronger cash position than when they did that.

@Torgen got his apology faceplate but not his fixed GH3 disc: I don't believe that Nintendo has the cunning to do a double header. I think the WII was just a fluke. Look at the garbae they are pulling now. If they didn't have a system that sold so ridiculously, then i think they would be considering closing. They have not made an effort to fix anything (friend code, lack of HDD or HD). They have a terrible software lineup aswell.

@Jagzi11a: Nintendo has a hundred years of profitability in the bank, so the Wii failing wouldn't have made them bankrupt--especially considering the smaller capital outlay compared to their competitors from the incremental upgrade to the Gamecube's specs. For that matter, since they profit on the hardware, it's not even a sure thing that the Wii wouldn't have been profitable even if it had come last place. Nintendo still profited when the Gamecube was third in sales.
