So, none of my #tag posts are appearing at all, not even if you press the "Show hidden threads" button(excluding my replies to other posts). You can look through my previous comments to check. It would appear that the same is true of all other unstarred commenters.
This is ridiculous, it was annoying enough that my comment has to be promoted by a starred commenter for it to be visible to most people nevermind that my tips and tag-topics are completely invisible.
So please fix this, get rid of the promotion system (I think I've been a good, consistent Kommenter and shouldn't have my views ignored just because someone hasn't nominated me for a witty post I made at some point), and give me back the ability to choose between viewing threads from oldest first or newest first.
End the discrimination between starred and unstarred commenters now! If not, then remember- we outnumber you. Us lowly peasants are willing to rise against our feudal masters and make an assault on Kotaku Kastle itself!
@electroshockwave: First of all, I'm not getting outta my chair anymore just to rise against shit. Last time I did that was for Left4Dead 2 and it ended up being more breath than it was worth. You can do all the revolutioning you want, I'll just be over here playing Wet.
Second, I'm pretty sure they said that all commenters will be able to open pages soon enough, they just didn't want the site flooded with new pages right off the bat, so right now it's restricted to star commenters. Think of it as a closed beta. #talkamongstyourselves
Click on your name at the top of the page (easy to miss as it's light grey), click on settings when it loads, and you can choose to have hidden threads shown, and what chronological order posts appear.
Pitchforks and torches have been put out and away for awhile now though. #talkamongstyourselves
@electroshockwave: I wholeheartedly agree, I prefer to wade through all comments to get a clearer response to the articles in question, obvious trolls and all. Any internet veteran should be used to taking the good with the bad, and it should go without saying that no commenter on Kotaku is infallible, no matter the color of the text.
If you must have some kind of ranking system in place, why not use the approve/disapprove buttons per post so people can decide for themselves the merit of a comment? #talkamongstyourselves
@electroshockwave:
1. you need to be a Star, sucks but as NeoStarr said they don't want it being used n abused with folks adding say 5 tags at the end of their posts. :P
2. even if you are a Star it doesn't always work
3.its pointless anyway, unless you know what hashtag you are looking for beyond the 4 on the top of the page.
4. to change the hidden threads n chronological order go to Profile - Settings- Oldest first
5. If you've been consistent n regular then you'll get your Star eventually. Not everyone *wink* got their star from COTW. #talkamongstyourselves
@Enkur: "Any internet veteran should be used to taking the good with the bad."
Sometimes I like to Show Featured Comments Only and just read the good, not worrying about the bad (especially when there are several pages worth of comments). It's a nice option to have, even though I mostly Show All Comments so I can approve and promote the good stuff.
I think it's all about separating the wheat from the chaff. Lord knows there's enough chaff on the internet to distract a radar-guided missile.
I understand the frustration, but at the same time I also understand the idea behind the system. It works for the most part, but it can take a long, long time for some great commenters to actually receive a star (NeöStarr is a good example of this, in my opinion). #talkamongstyourselves
Taggin' up ur #tag tag...
So comments like this just exist in the miasma for people who search for tag? You realize that means there are now infinite pockets to hide stuff on here, right? :o
Commenters now have space beyond moderated posts to start their own discussions, investigations, arguments, and hold court with friends and foes. Have something to say that's off-topic? An insider's perspective that needs more room to vent? A bone to pick with a post? Want to live-blog an event on your own? Take it "outside" - utilize our new #hashtag feature.
Create your own forum within the blogs by adding "/tag/yourtaghere/" to the original site URL, or by entering your unique "#yourtag" into the text field at the top of the blog, followed immediately by your first comment for that page. Then hit the big "Share" button.
You can also contribute commentary related to the tags that appear on published posts. Simply click on the relevant tag link, enter your comment in the text field at the top, then click "Share." When adding to a pre-existing page, you do not have to include the #tag in your comment.
Don't forget that any content you post in #tag pages or tell us in #tips will be public. Forums and tips that we particularly like will receive front-page promotion. #comments
@Brian Crecente: Is there ever going to be a way to "Favorite" an article/post? Every time I click to view my profile, I see that tab taunting me and don't know how to slap it in the face... (no glove, not looking for a duel, just a good slap.) #comments
