Castle Crashers actually won three categories in the Xbox Live Arcade Awards, the annual awards voted on by the players themselves. Along with Game of the Year, it was also awarded Best Co-op Mode and Best Original Game. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix was the other big winner, taking home three awards for Best Remake, Best Versus Mode, and Best Graphics. The final three categories were one-offs, with A Kingdom for Keflings winning Best Family Game, Braid taking Best Innovation, and Portal: Still Alive winning Best Single Player.

So how do those results look to you guys? Fair? Completely off? Too Street Fighter-y? Discuss.

<![CDATA[Capcom Has More HD Remixes Up Its Sleeve; Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Next?]]> Capcom's VP of Business Development and Strategic Planning, Christian Svensson, says the company is far from done making high def Remixes of its old-school games.

So if you liked Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, make with the jumping for joy. If you liked Marvel vs. Capcom enough to want a third one, tough luck: Svensson says it'd be a lot harder to do a full-blown sequel than it would be to crap out lovingly fashion an HD Remix.

Here's what he had to say to VideoGamer.com on the subject:

"I won't say it doesn't need it. Marvel would be great to do. There's obviously a fan base for it. It's probably our most requested title. Unfortunately, I wish I had news to share on that front but I don't."

"I would never say never [to MvC3] but I would say the barriers to doing that are much higher than the barriers for MvC2," said Svensson.

The ESRB rated Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 last October. Make of that what you will.

<![CDATA[Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Press Kits Get Pricey On Ebay]]> Were you one of the lucky folks to get their hands on a SSFIITHDR Press Kit? No? Well get ready to pony up!

Like the Mega Man 9 press kit, which went for insane amounts, the Street Fighter kit has become yet another rare eBay-able item.

The highest auction recently went for $262, and it seems like $200-$300 will be the sweet spot. No, it doesn't have the charm of the Mega Man 9 kit, but it's still worthy of taking a spot on your collection shelf.

I'm not ready to sell my Mega Man 9 kit, yet. I'm saving it for emergencies, like if I have to make rent in a pinch, or buy a new flatscreen TV.

<![CDATA[Street Fighter II HD Shatters Sales Records]]> Capcom reveals that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is well on its way to becoming the highest grossing digital title of all time, with 250,000 units purchased since the game's release.

In a post over at the Capcom Unity Blog, the company reveals that the redone version of everyone's favorite 2D fighter broke both day-one and week-one sales records, and could very well break 30-day sales records as well. They then go on to thank everyone who worked on the game, looked at the game, bought the game, and thought about the game in passing which waiting in line for a latte at their local coffee shop.

Not bad for a title that was very nearly cancelled.

<![CDATA[Gaming On A 103-Inch Plasma Television, Or Why You Should Embrace Split-Screen Multiplayer Again]]> The chance to play video games on a humongous television doesn't come around very often...unless of course you write for Gizmodo. Those bastards!

The Gizmodo Gallery that took place here in NYC over the weekend played host to many strange, custom electronics and gadgets. But the one thing I just had to see for myself was the 103-inch plasma Panasonic TV running Xbox 360 games. Attendees were able to compete for prizes in head-to-head match-ups in games such as Call of Duty 4 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking.

As you can see, it's very awe-inspiring. It's almost unbelievable that such a thing even exists.

Seeing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare four-player split-screen on this behemoth made me remember how much fun this style used to be. Nowadays, though, most developers complain they can't do it or they'll give excuses about how no one will use it. I tend to agree, taking into consideration the growing budgets and shorter deadlines.

But this. This TV could spark a renaissance.

Check out the rest of the pics from the day below!

<![CDATA[Street Fighter Uno Deck Unleashes Hadoken Card]]> Continuing the Street Fighter being unleashed by Capcom over the next few months is a special Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix themed Uno deck for the wildly popular Xbox Live Uno game. The deck adds Sagat's stage from the game as the backdrop, places Street Fighter characters on the cards with animated moves on special cards, and adds a whole new card to the mix - the Hadoken card. When someone plays Hadoken, they choose a player. That player must draw cards until they pick up a block or jump card.

Back when Magic the Gathering first got big I used to joke about magazines including rare Uno cards as pack-ins. Apparently I was just about 15 years ahead of my time.

<![CDATA[SF II Turbo HD Remix Priced For XBLA And PSN]]> Okay, so we know when, now tell us how much.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (Or 'SSF2THDR' - a rare case where the abbreviation could do with its own abbreviation) has been priced at 1200 Microsoft points on Xbox Live Marketplace and $14.99 on the Playstation Network.

Actually, we only sort of knew when - the actual release dates are November 25th for PSN, with Xbox owners getting a dose of SSF2THDR (no, still too long) on the 26th.

<![CDATA[Xbox 360 Gets Its First Wii Channel]]> It looks like the New Xbox Experience will be going live tomorrow with its first... Wii Channel?

Sure it may not have the grid-like precision of its Nintendo counter-part, or the obsessive content (yet), but the first thing I thought of when I laid my eyes on Capcom's "branded experience" for Super Street Fighter II Turbe HD Remix, was Nintendo's Wii Channels.

The Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix "destination experience" looks to be a hang-out spot, a "channel" if you will, for fans of the game on the Xbox 360.

The "channel" will feature updates about new content, new trailers, and access to downloadable content. That includes the picture packs and themes you used to find running loose in the Marketplace on the Old Xbox Experience.

"With 1080p high-definition art and graphics, and the ultimate user feature set, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is the perfect game to compliment the New Xbox Experience,” said Christian Svensson, VP of Strategic Planning and Business Development at Capcom Entertainment Inc. “Capcom is dedicated to providing captivating content to the digital space and we’re proud to participate in this new era of Xbox LIVE."

What Capcom isn't totally clear on is exactly where this "channel" will show up in the New Xbox Experience. Hopefully it will be something you have to dig down to and not something that could clutter up the experience. I can't wait to see how else Msoft plans to monetize, and perhaps, clutter up their recently stream-lined interface.

<![CDATA[Street Fighter II HD Remix Shows Off Its Combos ]]>
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is coming...sometime soon, and Capcom has released a teaser video showing off some of the combo moves you can pull off in the rebuilt version of the classic fighter. To some of you, these moves will be very familiar. To a Street Fighter player as skill as I am not, these are the sort of moves I only ever pull off on accident. The key lies in making it look as if you did it on purpose. I find that shouting the word "Face!" seems to help.

<![CDATA[SSF2THD Remix Will Be Worth The Wait]]> I was excited for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix back when it was first announced in April 2007. HD remakes of classic 2-D games always make me smile. A year and a half later, though, the game is still not released. And with Street Fighter IV just around the corner, I was beginning to find it hard to stay excited. Thankfully, I finally got a chance to see the near-final game (it exists!), and chatted to Capcom’s Seth Killian about its release date, pricing, and how much better the online experience is.

I first wanted to find out just when the hell this game was coming out and how much it’ll cost. I’ve read “very soon” to “sometime this year” for the past couple of months now. I’ve even heard a few bits about a possible November release date. I asked Killian if we should expect it sometime next month.

“That’s what we’re looking. I think you’ll see it before Christmas. I don’t know the price, I think it’s going to be more than $10, but I don’t know where [Capcom] is going to put it,” he said.

Killian also added there are no plans right now to release DLC, and he wasn’t sure if the PSN version would support trophies. Since the game was in development before trophies were announced, it’s looking like they might not be there. We’ll have to wait and see.

By far the biggest hurdle for this game has been the art. Re-drawing all the sprites and animation takes a lot of time and costs a lot of money. But Capcom wasn’t concerned so much with the release date as they were making it look good.

“On one of the FTP’s some of the art leaked out and everyone was ‘Oh my God, look how bad this art is!’” Killian said. “We responded to it on our blog saying the bad news is, yes this is actually the art from the game, but the good news is we know it’s shitty, and it’s so shitty we actually fired the company before it leaked.”

So how does it play? Well, it’s Street Fighter, but it looks great on a HDTV. Everything is crisp and clean looking. They’ve refined the gameplay a bit by making some of the moves easier to pull off. Not much else to say other than you have to see it for yourself. There are some fun options, too, like being able to turn on the hit boxes or play the non-HD version of the game.

With Street Fighter IV planned to ship to consoles this Winter, I think a lot of fans will overlook it or have simply just given up on it. For as sexy as HD Remix looks, SFIV has the graphical “wow” factor. I asked Killian if he felt Capcom missed an opportunity by not being able to release the game earlier this year to get fans hyped for Street Fighter IV.

“Yeah, we definitely intended to release it earlier, hopefully this won’t be a missed opportunity because I think Street Fighter IV got people hyped up for Street Fighter in general,” he said. “The fan anticipation was very high for this game, so hopefully those people who were excited about it will still be excited. The extra time it’s taken has been put into making it a better product and, frankly, it really is better than it was.”

So what about the online? Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting had wonky online. He even agreed with me saying it was “shitty” as well. But he reassured me HD Remix would be the best online fighter yet.

“This game actually feels like Street Fighter. This game online is crackin’. They’ve sunk a lot of time and had a lot of specialists involved in that,” Killian said. “I actually think it’s the best fighting experience online. For anyone that likes Street Fighter and wants more competition, I think the game will sell itself.“

Capcom loves to do re-releases and remakes. This much we know. I suggested to Killian the idea of doing Final Fight HD with online co-op. It obviously interested him, too. But right now they’re going to see how HD Remix does and, who knows, maybe that’s something they’ll consider later on if fans demand it.

<![CDATA[Cammy, Zangief, And Blanka Look Better In HD]]> Capcom assures us that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, the game they've been teasing us with since last year, is heading our way soon via Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. <![CDATA[Super Street Fighter II HD Might Actually Come Out In 2008]]> Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. It's borderline vapourware, yeah? We saw a ton of stuff for it, a very long time ago, and have heard little/nothing since. Worst case, it's to be disappeared, best case, delayed until 2009, right? Maybe not! The game's associate producer, Rey Jimenez, has told The Street Fighter Blog that they're in the "home stretch", just cleaning up a few minor bugs, and that "barring any unforeseen catastrophic event" the game will be out in the year of our Lord, 2008. Considering this game's track record we'll believe it when we see it, but until then, we have hope!

<![CDATA[Fan Made Super SF II Turbo HD Remix Soundtrack]]> Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix needed a turbo remix of a soundtrack. And that's what it got from non-for-profit website OverClocked Remix (www.ocremix.org), which provided fan mixes and arrangements. According to the site's creator David Lloyd, "Artists can submit their own ReMixes of classic and modern game soundtracks, from consoles, handhelds, arcade, or computer games, in any musical genre, from rock to jazz to orchestral to trance." Capcom was able to tap this pool of talent for the game's soundtrack. And that's pretty darn cool.

<![CDATA[XBLA This Week: Commando 3, Frogger 2 - Commando Wins!]]> It's sequel week in the musty old Xbox Live Arcade, with two classic arcade games making their relatively triumphant returns. First off we have Capcom's Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, which features all of the scrolling, shooting, POW rescuing action of the original, along with online multiplay and a free beta version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, all for 800 Microsoft points.

Also coming this Wednesday is Frogger 2, which includes 15 levels of action, boss battles, two new online multiplayer modes, and no free beta version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, all for 800 Microsoft points.

I am sensing a clear winner here.

<![CDATA[Capcom Explain Why There's No PS3 SFII HD Beta]]> 360 owners get access to the SFII HD beta when they pick up Commando 3. PS3 owners don't. That kind of discrepancy leads to questions, which left unanswered lead to thinking, then a wacky hypothesis, then most likely an ill-informed internet forum rant. Seeking to head that kind of rant off at the pass, Capcom have explained just why PS3 owners won't be getting access to the beta, listing reasons such as a finite number of resources, the fact a double-test would have pushed the actual game's release back months and the near-impossibility of running a cross-platform beta test. All very legitimate, all very sensible. None as sensible as this, though: this is a beta test. Not a demo. As Capcom's Seth Killian explains, "There is code parity across the two and any issues found in 360 will be fixed in PS3".

<![CDATA[XBLA SFII HD Isn't Gimped]]> We know SFII HD was causing problems for the development team at Capcom. They've got all these lovely HD textures and sprites they want to use, you see, but Xbox Live Arcade's file-size limit means squeezing these into the 360 version has been a big hurdle to clear. Note I say big. Not insurmountable. Capcom's Seth Killian:

I can officially say that the filesize will not be an issue. With great help from the guys at Microsoft, we will be able to offer the same features on both platforms to the same quality as each other. To use the term I've been reading on the forums, neither console version will be "gimped" due to any kind of limitation.
Breathe easy, 360 owners. Unless you've still got concerns over the 360 controller's suitability for this game, that is. In which case, continue breathing frantically.

<![CDATA[Play Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Early, Commando 3 Purchase Required]]> Looking to get your mitts on Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix early? Buy Commando 3! Capcom is giving Xbox Live Gold members an opportunity to help "stress test" a beta version of the 1080p remake of SSFIITHDR if they virtually drop the 800 Microsoft Points on its other offering. That's the good news. The bad news is that you'll be limited solely to Ken and Ryu and a single stage and that PlayStation 3 owners don't seem to be getting a similar deal.

Whatever! As a Commando and Mercs fan, I was already planning on picking up Commando 3 (aka Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3). Getting the HD treatment on Super Street Fighter II Turbo will be a nice little bonus.

<![CDATA[Balancing The Ass Kicking Properties of Street Fighter's Ken]]> Love him or hate him, you're stuck with David Sirlin, the man who plans to bring balance to the forces fighting in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. In a recent entry on the official Capcom Blog, Sir Sirlin breaks down the changes to one of the most popular, but certainly not most powerful, characters in the Street Fighter universe. Ken Masters may be a bit pedestrian, a tad obvious, but for those who think of Ken as a mid-tier choice in competitive Street Fighter play, they should give the list of changes a read. If we had our druthers, visual aides of the changes would be provided, but visualizing them through text will simply have to suffice.

In short, Ken's hurricane kicks, dragon punches and reversal have all been given a bit of a boost. Nothing balance-shattering, but interesting to Street Fighter II fans, nonetheless.

Try to look away as the animated GIF from Street Fighter: The Movie makes its appearance. May cause seizures of regret.
