They simply let Mario and Yoshi do their thing, as buttons, switches and blocks boost them through each level. None of those user created levels are as impressive as this 11-minute monster, which uses the sound effects from those switch-hits and Koopa Troopa stomps to make beautiful music. My untrained ears can pick out but a few recognizable tunes—Mega Man 2 and Super Mario World, I don't know from Haruhi and Lucky Star—but song list help in the comments is more than welcome. Thanks to Spann for pointing us in its direction.

<![CDATA[ Super Mario World Explores Quantum Physics ]]>

Who said games aren't educational? It may not have the sex appeal of my personal time-merged favorite, The 1K Project II for Trackmania Sunrise, but the ensuing write-up, which helps explain quantum theories with a SNES classic gives it an intellectual bonus. The Super Mario World hack, by the way, is known as Kaizo Mario World and looks infinitely unenjoyable. What you're seeing above is 134 playthroughs of Kaizo layered upon each other using a custom SNES emulator.

<![CDATA[ Nintendo By Torrel Now Available ]]> bob_omb_t.jpgThe Nintendo-licensed apparel by clothing brand Torrel that we told you about last month has formally launched, with an online store selling the Nintendo By Torrel line now live. The first line, which focuses on graphics lifted from Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario World, ranges from t-shirts at $50 to hoodies to jackets which top out at $200. Those who prefer to swim in their clothing will be quite comfortable, as the product runs up to XXXXL. Spindly wimps like myself who rock smalls in everything will be left cold, naked and wanting.

Anyone who has ever dreamed of owning a Donkey Kong 3 or Mach Rider t-shirt can stop asking why God has forsaken them. They're both at the Torrel online store right now.

From the always awesome link log at Mike Nowak's The In-between comes this great old-school, game-referencing video from Canada's hip hop act Cadence Shark. Watch for Donkey Kong, Mega Man, Street Fighter, Frogger, Rampage, and Super Mario World shout outs plus the occasional naughty word.

Game Videos just uploaded some Super Mario World footage, showing the classic playing on the Wii's virtual console. Am I the only one who feverishly buys these retros and then plays them exactly once before losing interest?

<![CDATA[ New Wii VC Titles Released, Rumored, Rated ]]>

The big news on the Virtual Console front today was obviously the release of the SNES classic, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past. But a handful of other VC games will be unleashed on the Wii Shop channel today, with a few more listed at the ESRB web site, just itching for the chance to be downloaded.

Sega has three reheated classics up for grabs for a mere 800 Wii Points each, action platformer Comix Zone, and arcade-to-Genesis ports Bonanza Bros. and Gain Ground. The games are scheduled to hit sometime today.

Future releases for the VC via the ESRB site include Super Mario World (SNES), Chew Man Fu (TG-16), and Mighty Bomb Jack (NES). Before the weekend, ratings for Turbografx-16 titles Bonk's Revenge, Bonk III: Bonk's Big Adventure, and Dragons Curse appeared for the Wii, but have since disappeared. All have been rated by the ESRB, but have little in the way of confirmed release dates.

<![CDATA[ Clips: The Super Mario World Laser Suit! ZOMG! ]]>

I'm really just posting this so no one sends it in to our tips line. While I probably would've loved to discover the "Laser Suit" in Super Mario World when I was but a young boy, the current me knows this is just a finely crafted hack.

<![CDATA[ Guitar + NES = NES Paul ]]> Music man XOC, also known as Jason Cox, responsible for arguably the best video game cover album of ALL TIME, has made the penultimate sacrifice. Okay, not even close. But he did turn his original NES—the one he's had since age ten!—into a functioning guitar.

Now if it still also worked as a functioning Nintendo Entertainment System, that'd be something. Something impossible.

Check out the handful of in process pics, including my personal favorite of the mangled guitar looking terrified just before going under the knife.

<![CDATA[ Hang Super Mario World On Your Wall ]]>

Generally speaking, we don't like to post eBay auctions. They are up for a day, then gone, like chaff in the wind. Still, Scott tipped us on this absolutely beautiful canvas limited edition rendition of a screen from Super Mario World. At 24" x 32.5" it's not exactly wall sized, but I think I will have to make room above my headboard and strip down some of the soggier pin-ups of Lara Croft to display to my nocturnal visitors my more sensitive gamer side.

<![CDATA[ Game Music Fan Works His Organ For *Twenty* Minutes ]]>

No, you haven't errantly landed on sister site Fleshbot. This is, however, a hot, man-on-pipe organ solo performance video of one game music lovin' altar boy doing the ten-finger shuffle to some of gaming's greatest hits. From Koji Kondo's Super Mario World castle theme, to The Legend of Zelda's dungeon tunes, even wandering into dreaded anime territory, he runs the gamut of nerd tunes. There's really nothing to see here, so just listen.

Thanks to everyone for the heads up!

<![CDATA[ OMG, The Super Mario World Room ]]>

Holy Mario! A Ninty fangirl painted the front room of her house to look like Super Mario World, complete with piping and 3D boxes. In doing so, she's won the hearts of every Nintendo fanboy. Me, I don't think the murals will jive with anything but mushroom-themed furniture, but that's not really the point. Pics of Mario, Yoshi and painted walls after the jump.

This smacks of "only possible with an emulator" but there are so many mind-blowing feats of caped Mario acrobatics in this video that it must be seen. WARNING: If you have an aversion to bad music Linkin Park, quickly hit the mute button and add your own custom soundtrack.

<![CDATA[ Mario ROM Hack Helps Lover Take Girlfriend To Terrible Movie ]]> The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser.

Aaron Stilton, intrepid Lothario and part-time ROM hacker, hacked apart Super Mario World to be a 16 bit mash note to his girlfriend. He wrote elaborate love messages in gold coins across World 1, hinting that a limo would pick her up at 7:00pm and that she should wear her sultriest pair of underpants. At 7:00pm, a limo did indeed pick her up, whisking her and Aaron away on a romantic date to see...

... the utterly, categorically terrible Da Vinci Code.

Scornful ellipsis. Astounded aposiopesis! Aaron, what the hell is wrong with you, man?

Okay, it could have been worse. He could have taken her to see Irreversible instead. But way to squander some excellent execution there, Aaron!
