So here's a super-slimmed down Super Mario Kart, done in 11 KB of pure javascript goodness. Pick from Mario, Luigi or Peach and then race on two different maps. It even has a soundtrack.

You'll be beaten off the line easily every time, but if you race the second map and take advantage of the turns, you can get into first pretty quickly.

There's no timer or lap count and your opponents seem to float in the air until you overtake them. Still, I killed a few minutes with this while going off on a reverie, wondering if I'll be 55 and playing a slimmed down javascript Assassin's Creed or something.

<![CDATA[ Super Mario Kart Is All I Need (With Expensive Simulator) ]]> WARNING: DO NOT STEP BEYOND THE WAIST HIGH FENCE WHILE MARIO KART IS IN MOTION.

Luke can have his Mario Kart Wii and his fancy wireless motion controls from the future. I'll enjoy the classic, SNES version and a humble motion simulator by Force Dynamics. Constructed from various flavors of steel, this simulator features 500lbs of peak thrust, five channels of surround sound and one wicked disclaimer:
The [unit] can move suddenly, and severely injure someone who is within the working envelope. A waist high fence located at least 4 feet away from the machine is strongly suggested.
OK, technically the disclaimer is for a more premium unit. But I had a need to post that bit about the "waist high fence." For your safety.

<![CDATA[ Clip: Super Mario Kart Commercial ]]>

Here's a great Super Mario Kart commercial from 1992. The presentation is hilarious with it's quick cuts and Monster Truck Show style voiceover. "It's got two speeds! Fast and Way Too fast!"

This is a fine example of an ad that would make you run in to your parent's bedroom at 7am all cracked out on sugared cereal and beg them to buy that game for you. I tried that method just last weekend and you know what? It totally still works.

<![CDATA[ The King Of Games Mario Kart Jersey ]]> In a rare nod to a Super Nintendo era game, t-shirt production house and official Nintendo licensee The King Of Games has announced their next shirt will be based on the SNES classic Super Mario Kart. Titled "Super Mario Kart Grand Champion" the baseball jersey will go on sale March 28th to visitors of the "Nintendo Museum" in the Hankyu department store in Osaka. How's that for out of reach (goddamn it)?

No word on whether the shirt will be sold online through the site's English store, but you can be sure I'll be pestering them until I get an answer. Lots of detail on the shirt print over at The King of Games.
