Wii, the Wii sequel to Super Mario Galaxy will be "a really challenging game." Does that warrant a little Super Guide-style help?

Miyamoto tells the Official Nintendo Magazine of the UK that he "cannot tell" whether the Super Guide's hand-holding assist will be included in Super Mario Galaxy 2. But the tech will be implemented in Nintendo games "wherever and whenever appropriate."

Personally, the option somehow seems more appropriate in a multiplayer-skewed game like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, even though the side-scrolling entries in the Super Mario Bros. series have typically been the more challenging of the lot.

If you're on board with this Super Guide thing, are there any Nintendo titles that you think warrant it more than others?

<![CDATA[Don't Expect Much Story From Mario Galaxy 2]]> There were two big surprises to be found with Mario Galaxy: firstly, that it had a substantive story, and secondly, that the story was good. Pity, then, the sequel won't be doing anything of the sort.

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has said that, despite the love fans had for the first game's plot (centred around Rosalina and the adorable Lumas), "I'd like to go with as little story as possible...I've always felt that the Mario games themselves aren't particularly suited to having a very heavy story."

All well and good, except Miyamoto doesn't have as direct a role in the series as he once did. Instead, the job of creating these big Mario games now lies with Yoshiaki Koizumi, who is at odds with his mentor's stance on plot.

"Mr. Koizumi is the type of person who, whenever we're working on a new Mario game, he always wants to bring more story elements into it, as he did with Super Mario Galaxy" Miyamoto says. "But in talking with him this time, he agrees and feels that with Galaxy 2, there won't be a need for as deep of a story".

Shame!

<![CDATA[The Clips of E3: Day Three & Four]]> Day three of E3's clip round up has a lot more gameplay and a lot less hardware to drool over; but you can still get another look at the PSP Go in action.

Day four, meanwhile, was slim pickings — although that Fat Princess trailer really had me laughing. The Super Mario Galaxy 2 trailer was my favorite from day three without a doubt, although Final Fantasy XIII was pretty cool. Give me Yoshi in space over emo any day.

<![CDATA[Super Mario Galaxy 2 Screens And Trailer]]>
Mario is back and ready to circle around planets in spaaaaaaaaaace.

As we posted previously, Miyamoto said that the original plan was to "essentially create new variations of the worlds in Super Mario Galaxy." But, over time, the developers have had so many ideas that Miyamoto estimates that 90% of the game's levels are all new. The rest, he said, are levels from the original Mario Galaxy with different objectives.

The controls haven't changed, but Mario's been given new abilities via the addition of Yoshi and a drill item. Miyamoto also told Kotaku that "there's something that might be kind of a little bit ghost like but still a little different."

<![CDATA[Miyamoto: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Will Have 90% New Levels]]> Nintendo's legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto sat down with Kotaku to talk about Nintendo's biggest projects and shared some details on the newly announced Super Mario Galaxy.

"For the most part up until now on a single console we haven't made two games in a single franchise," Miyamoto said. "But when we first made Super Mario Galaxy for Wii it was the first time we really experimented with the spherical worlds. We had a lot of things we were interested in doing and a lot of creative freedom that we had in that world that we were interested [in doing]."

As the project is not going to be released until next year, Mr. Miyamoto said he wanted to talk more about Super Mario Brothers for the Wii. We'll have more on that later.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Reveals Super Mario Galaxy 2]]> Nintendo saved their biggest announcement for last at this morning's E3 press conference, unveiling the first full sequel to a 3D Mario game on the same system: Mario Galaxy 2.

From the trailer on show, it appears to be the same deal as the first game. Planetoids you run around, 3D puzzles, unique mechanics on various levels, flying pirate ships and, yes, bee suits.

The graphics have seen a slight improvement from the looks of things, with nicer grass, but yeah, expect more Mario Galaxy. Just newer.

It's planned for release sometime in 2010. Sadly, it won't be playable on the showroom floor this week.
