LEGO Super Mario Cheats With 3D Scanner
No doubt there are LEGO architects in the wild who consider this a horrible affront to blocksmithing, but this 29" tall Mario sculpt is obsessively well done. Someone's Knitting Super Mario Bros. Level 1-1 (The Whole Thing)
Atlantian knitter Cassie has committed to knitting more than just a scarf. She's planning on knitting the entirety of Super Mario Bros. first level in yarn form, a project she's documenting for all of the internet to see. According to a recent post, it looks like she's a little over one-third of the way through — and it's already bordering on ridiculous. We'll continue to gawk just to see how big this thing gets as we learn about yarn color discrepancies. More » -

Spore Creature Creator Bowser Compatible
As we did with Miis and custom Forza Motorsport 2 paint jobs many moons ago, so are we now nearing the peal of clever Spore creature creation tolerance. Oh, some are just fantastic, but after recreations of just about every video game thing in existence in Spore monster form, we're starting to lose interest quickly. Possibly quicker than ever before, sadly. That said, this Bowser recreation is simply too high in quality to pass up. Reader Shawn was kind enough to pass on the Kezins discovery and for that we thank him. -

The Perfect Gift for a Gaming Mother's Day

The Inevitable Super Mario Bros. UT3 Mod

(Super) Mario (Bros.) Paint
Have you ever just looked at the Super Mario Bros. box art? I mean, really looked at it until it made some sort of sense? Why is Mario leaping over a lake of lava while tossing fireballs at a wall—the same wall, I should mention, that he's actually leaping into? Did the art department screw up? Where they read "wall" were they meant to read "Bowser?" Where they painted blue blocks were they meant to paint green scales? More » -

Super Mario Bros. In 14 Kilobytes Of Javascript
It may be lacking in Koopas, power ups and an underworld—not to mention the dreaded embedded MIDI soundtrack—but this Super Mario Bros. clone packed into 14 KB of Javascript is still damn impressive. Using no graphics, rendered entirely in compressed script, the exercise is definitely worth a few minutes of your time, even if the collision detection leaves a bit to be desired. It's only World 1-1, so you won't have to invest much time to get the gist, but a fantastic accomplishment regardless. More » -

Video Game Currencies That Out-Value The US Dollar
Curious about how an investment in rupees, the currency in The Legend of Zelda, would have translated into real world profit? The financial wizards at Maxim have gone through the impressive effort of translating the in-game value of currencies to real-world dollars from a septet of classic and modern video games, a scientific pursuit that proves a single mineral unit from StarCraft is worth far, far more than a gold ring from Sonic the Hedgehog will ever be. Square Enix Bringing "Dragon Quest Party" Stateside?
Is Square Enix finally bringing its Itadaki Street series to North America? We've got a hunch it is. The latest entry, known as Itadaki Street DS in Japan, features a guest appearance in the long-running board game series from the Mario universe cast, including Peach, Bowser, Wario and Yoshi. The Mario Birthday Party You Wish You Had
I was impressed and a wee bit jealous last year when I posted about four year old George's Mario themed birthday party but these photos from Ethan's Mario/Video Game themed party have left me longing for the days when I could have a cool themed birthday party without people looking askance. An awesomely decorated cupcake table (above), Mario and Luigi papercraft favors, homemade Boo and Kirby pinatas, Mario and Luigi hats, a Yoshi Egg Hunt and a tastefully and detailed decorated back yard. If only cool stuff like that had been available when we were kids we might have been spared the horrors of party clowns. More » -

New Brawl Stage Creates Super Mario Bros. Wii-make Lust
With Super Smash Bros. Brawl delayed to March, we just assumed that the Smash Bros. Dojo would be running dangerously on content fumes, posting about cursor changes when one hovers over portraits or scraping the barrel bottom for alternate costume choices. We certainly never thought they'd drop the Mushroomy Kingdom on us, the best looking stage yet. It's a Wii-creation of World 1-1 from the original Super Mario Bros., a constantly side-scrolling level that only makes us long for a remake of the NES classic. We'd totally buy this sort of thing via WiiWare, Nintendo, if you're listening. More » -

UC Berkeley Band Subjects Sports Fans To Game Music
The best part about opting for a video game themed halftime show is that it's going to be performed by band nerds. These kids probably know "Yoshi's Theme" better than any other cross section on campus. The above performance, from the recent UC Berkeley versus Washington State football contest features tunes and bitmap band formations from Tetris, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, Mortal Kombat and more. They seem to get a little winded at parts, understandably, but it's a solid performance nonetheless. More » -
