Tomb Raider: Underworld is a fairly good deal for $7.50 on Steam, especially if you have the ideal gaming setup for it. You can also get Tomb Raider: Anniversary for $8.65 on Amazon at the moment.
As far as TR:U goes though, there isn't much time left on the deal.
It's a magnificent deal if you:
-- Have a 360 controller for the PC.
-- Have a decent 8800GT+ video card (with 512MB of vram at least).
-- Enjoy the environmental puzzle bits of tomb raider games more than the combat.
-- Prefer to have your games on Steam.
-- And have $7.50 laying around.
The downsides are:
-- You don't get to explore around Lara's Mansion and unlock/find things there in this game.
-- Due to the level design, mistakes can be more costly than in previous games, so the better you are the less it will frustrate you.
-- It will tie in better if you have played Tomb Raider: Legend, since it continues on that story, but enjoyable regardless.
-- Since it's on Steam, I should mention that the Steam overlay won't show up in this game. That doesn't bother me personally, especially since it's a singleplayer game, but it's important to others.
It certainly can't hurt if you have some level of nostalgia tied to Tomb Raider. I remember playing the first 2 Tomb Raider games on the PC, and while honestly I don't think I bothered finishing either, the time spent with them was enjoyable.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii Brand New for 36.99, plus free shipping, at eBay! [cgi.ebay.com]
It's from Buy so this isn't only one game, but again, I don't know how large their quantity is so if you don't have the game yet, or didn't feel like spending $49.99 on it, here's your chance!
Don't know if it's been covered on this site or not, but when I stopped by Best Buy last night to browse, they had Sims 3: World Adventures on sale for $29.99 (reg. $39.99). I generally don't pick up Sims expansions until the next one comes out, because they're rarely worth full price, but I'm always willing to make an exception for 25% off.
As some may be aware Mininova this week had to stop their 'By none get one or more free' deal. This covers their films, games and software dept's.
But Lifehacker had an article highlighting other digital distribution services than offer the same or similar deal Mininova had.
@D-K, Anarchist: the flaw in your reasoning of me feeling ripped off is the fact that i've already played and beaten it before, therefore already know first hand how it is, so i am fully aware of what my money is getting me.
@D-K, Anarchist: someone needs more hugs in their life, but I suppose we need some "glass half empty" people to balance the ones using these deals for gifts
@Exkabad: I'm personally not a "glass is half-empty" kinda guy, i'm one of those "yeah we're having a ball but remember there are people with half-empty glasses" kinda guy
@D-K, Anarchist: I already own a PS3. (And a 360, and a Wii.) It's not a gift for me -- I want them to be able to borrow my Blu-Ray movies and use the Netflix streaming they get with their Netflix account. I'm also buying them an HDTV to go with it.
And yes, there are people with half-empty glasses, but this is my family and I love my family. I wanna do something nice for them.
Save $789 to $1118 on a PS3/TV bundle! The game selection is small but pretty awesome. The movie selection isn't amazing but they've got a decent spread. Caveat on the TVs: gotta be 46" or larger. Still, if you were thinking of buying a PS3 and/or HDTV, it's good chance to get both and a game/movie. Also, I dunno if the XBR10 models are a whole lot better than the XBR9 models but they are waaayyyy cheaper.
This is US-only from what I can tell (I see it on bestbuy.com but not bestbuy.ca). Also, since I'm Canadian, I can't go through the whole checkout process and see how the discount is done, but I imagine the bigger discounts come with the bigger TVs.
GTA 4 - $20 (there seems to be a typo with the savings graphic saying $10 off, but the price listed on the page is 50% off ($25). Once added to the cart, however, it is listed in the cart as being only $20!)

You think, "hey, 8 bucks.. not too shabby.. TR's a well established franchise.. i've heard bad things, but for 8 bucks, how could you go wrong"
You'll buy it, play it for half an hour.. maybe even a full hour.. you'll discard it with an "I'll probably play it later" attitude..
You won't, and having spent "only" 8 bucks won't eleviate the feeling of being ripped off.

Righteous!
Giving's overrated.

Problem is, all anybody's offering is rull retail price plus a few games she wouldn't care about. So, no point buying one now. I'll get one later.

Sure, she'll flip through it once or twice, but ultimately, it's for you.
Still, nice way to fool yourself..
